According to "research" done by either A) scientists with too much time on their hands, or B) a lads' mag, she's made up of the elements most men desire, such as build, height, hair colour, personality etc.

Mind you, I don't read much into that shit!

Yes, I know what I want from a woman is some build, height, hair, and personality.

A video games character has none of that, though.

Well, so long as all the kiddies in the Western world patently refuse to ever consider a game console from anywhere other than Japan, Sony's got the market cornered. Microsoft may have a lovely machine to offer, but they're unfortunately on the wrong end of today's ethno-chic trends, at least as far as most console gamers (over here, anyway) seem to be concerned.

Of course, we PC gamers are entirely irrelevant to the market, nowadays, judging by the ever-shrinking shelf space at most software retailers over here... But that's a topic for another day.

I think Sony are really slipping, to be honest... A quote from another website:

QUOTE
Rumors are flying high, spreading across a network of Japanese, Dutch, and German websites, that developers are wary of creating content for the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, the article in question is difficult to decipher, but perhaps someone with knowledge of Japanese can give us the clear scoop. There’s also a Dutch article that has a quote in (broken) English: “In the (Japanese) game industry, many people are losing trust in Kutaragi’s non-stop pursue of this evolution, people are leaving PS3 at a rate worse than Nintendo’s GameCube era” (source unknown).

I know there's no sense putting any faith in rumours, but it does seem to me that there's a lot of people losing respect for Sony, especially due to the fact that they tell outright lies half the time, and their notoriously rubbish developer support. There's nothing that's been announced about the PS3 that makes it stand out. Xbox 360 is imminent, looking great, and has Live, Nintendo are showing with their new controller that they're not scared to innovate, yet all Sony can do is throw together a few pre-rendered CGI movies and pretend they're in-game footage. That and quote some useless facts and figures about teraflops this and that, which mean absolutely nothing, and don't fool anyone who has any idea about how the consoles work. They may get high floating point performance, but it comes from having to develop for a console which has 8 cells, which besides being an absolute nightmare to develop for, will spend most of their time unused. Even so, floating point performance isn't even a large part of the picture.

GTA:LCS multiplayer. Ad-hoc only unfortunately, no internet play. Anybody own a PSP and know anyone else who owns a PSP? Because I don't.
Ingram
I do and he also owns VT so we play when we can.

Been playing Secret Weapons Over Normandy again lately. Never was that impressed by the realism , but I don't think there has ever been a console based flight game that was as realistic as a PC based one.

Try Heroes of the Pacific

I've been playing Sudeki on the X-Box recently, I fancied trying the game but wasn't too sure how good it would be. Woolies had it in their sale for £10 new. I also got a used copy of True Crime:Streets of LA, I know it's an older game but who cares.
mrjester
Been playing Rainbow Six 3 and GTA: San Andreas a lot recently on my PS2.

Going back a few threads to the PS3, I recently did a press conference for Sony in Malta for the PSP and PS3. The PS3 programmer was there showing us all what it could do, and personally I think it looked fantastic. Some of it's clever stuff is awesome and a lot of it being developed by us Brits for a change, unlike the XBox with the Bill Gates wand. However, I think both machines have a place in the home and both have good and bad features. If you own an XBox 360, you're gonna say it rocks. If you own a PS3, you're gonna say it rocks too. Own both and it's rounds yours for some cold ones and a night in.

Last time I checked, I was a Brit. And there's no magic wand, thank you, there's an enormous amount of hard work going on here.
mrjester
Oh. Cool. I'll shut up. :-)

You been programming the XBox 360 then? I wasn't however saying one was better over the other though!
Omniscia
PSP users, beware! Some unscrupulous fellow has released a nifty little software hack which, if installed, will obliterate your system files!

I know that, but I wanted to object to the implication that all Microsoft has to do is to get Bill Gates to wave a magic wand in order to make Xbox 360 a success.

Object away. The Playstation came before the XBox anyhow and Bill jumped on the band wagon :-P

My main point was that Im not fussy over either one. The XBox does have some better graphics and smoother games, but the PS2 has a wider selection of games. Ergo, get both.

Or Sony jumped on the bandwagon because Atari released the VCS donkeys years ago. biggrin.gif
mrjester
Grrrr... Read my original post will ya! tongue.gif

I was comparing the PS2 to the XBox. The PS2 came before the XBox. Ok OK There's other games consoles out there which other companies developed and jumped on the bandwagon. Even I have a old old one with twidly knobs that make lines go up and down and knock a square backwards and forwards. All Im saying is that both the current market leaders are equally good and Ive seen both, and I'd get both i.e I'm not going to sit there and say "Moan Moan, Im not touching that XBox/PS2 cos I've got a PS2/Xbox. Mine's much better cos I say so".

Right. Im changing the subject. Been playing Pokersharks, which is an online game, but a game nontheless. Check it out Pokersharks quite silly really.

Ah, but how do the PS2-exclusive games stack up next to the Xbox-exclusive games? A good many of the best titles on either system are cross-platform. Are the PS2s exclusive titles all that great?
Blind I/O
Well, Killzone, Final Fantasy X, the Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear Solid series were all kickass. We also get GTAs first, which is nice. Oh, and the Naughty Dog games - Jak, Ratchett, etc.

They all pretty much beat Halo hands down. I was pissed off when I heard Oddworld had gone to Xbox, though. I can't remember any other Xbox exclusives... Fable was for a while. That's an impressive game...

(Almost full) lists are here (Xbox), and here (PS2)

My mate who was after PSP for years traded it in within a month of getting it for a DS and that game, He said he hasnt been happy untill he got castlevania (i like the kitty move!)

Well I got nintendogs, the dauchound edition. Beagle called Zelda that can do loads of stuff and just yesterday I got Tempest the Huskey, who is a wuss.

The only trouble with it is they wont remember sit even though ive taught them, and Its too cute I might just melt.

EDIT Oh, you can unlock some of the dogs. I was determined to have a Pug called Zebedee but hes gonna wait a wile (face is kinda weired)
zeden
Fable was the biggest dissapointment. I flew through the storyline. Too easy, rubbish story, too short. There were some nice touches but it just felt rushed. You only fight in the arena once, why? Soem missions are impossible to select, why? I took it back after finishing it twice in a week.

On a brighter note, I've recently been playing Shin Magami Tensai: Lucifers Call. Great game. Like Pokemon but with a better storyline and slightly more adult themes.

And now, for the Xbox, you've got, what, Halo? Fable? KOTOR? (These are all available on the PC, too, but that's not a console, so I won't count it.) Jade Empire? Deus Ex: Invisible War (bleh!)? Doom 3?

I thought Fable was pretty cool, but I do agree about the impossible quests. They put them on at the very beginning when your renown is low so you can't take them. Then when your renown is higher they've disappeared! It's quite annoying, I really want to have a go at them!

Can anyone recommend any other RPGs for Xbox? I seen this one called Kameo that looks cool, but I want more than one!!

Currently smashing my way through Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Great fun and all about breaking things. Almost everything can be destroyed, from puny humans to massive buildings. Fun, fun, fun. Especially catching missiles and lobbing them back, and jumping onto helicopters and hitting them til they break. Hulk smash indeed.
cueballthedog
i myself like racing games and i am currently racing my way round burnout revenge on the ps2

which is very good

Also played Hulk through recently. Great fun for a while, bit easy though. Ultimate Spiderman looks like it will kick its ass.
As for X-Box rpgs, you've got a very limited choice. My personal faves are the Knights of the Old Republic games. Played the second one through 3 times (40+ hours a pop). Jade Empire is also pretty cool, but is a very light with the rpg elements.

I bought Fahrenheit for PS2 the other day. It's the first game I've bought in ages and I would recommend it highly. The only drawback is the fairly speedy time I completed it in.
It's pretty cool, a bit like a cross between a film and a game (although if it were a regular film it would have the worst final act of any film you've ever seen, but as a game it kinda gets away with it)

I've got the PC version of that. It's pretty good isn't it? When you describe the game mechanics behind it to someone, it sounds like it's going to be shit, even to yourself, but it actually works.

Indeed. The action sequence control system is essentially that 70's children's electronic toy called SIMON. And the endurance control system is essentially 80's computer game Track and Field. It just works really nicely in this game though. I think the plot of the game has something to do with it. I was drawn to play it continually until I finished it because I was desperate to find out what happened next.

The biggest problem was they made all these brilliant action animation sequences, yet you're too busy watching the lights flashing to appreciate any of it.

Hopefully there will be an influx of games similar to Fahrenheit as it does kick ass.
Got my ass handed to me last night on Street Fighter 3. Lack of practice killed my skill. Just lusting after Soul Calibur 3 now... mmmm

I'm currently rampaging through San Andreas, totally brilliant game don't know why I didn't start it sooner. I just wish they'd hurry up and release Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 so I can play that too.

Sudeki should be easily available quite cheap, it has got a PC release as well, but most shops will have it. It's not the most common X-Box game but its far from the rarest.

There's also the new Bard's Tale game, but I've heard mixed reviews of that and I haven't played it myself so I can't give an opinion.
