Tis £18 on Play, but Civ's quite low on the list, seeing as I've got the other ones in the series, and they're generally quite samey. Still awesome games, though...
Sir_Robin_the_brave
Just started playing Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 - fucking hell it's a bit different from the others but I'm really getting into it now I've fathomed the controls. I'm really enjoying the story as well, looks like they'll be some twists and turns coming up.

FINALLY completed Mercenaries! biggrin.gif

Finished everything on Tony Hawk on sick difficulty yesterday. Way too easy compared to THUG2. Shame, though it does mean that I can trade it in and get money off Soul Calibur 3 when it comes out.

Oddly enough, DBZ has lasted me longer. Though I'd have eveything done after a week but theres still a fair bit left. Unlocked some badass characters. Super Android 17 rules all.

I really want Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. I think I'm gonna have to stop into Game on the way home from work and purchase me one of their fine games.
Sean of the Dead
Beat The Warriors yesterday, you get an ace little mini-game which is like streets of rage called ' Armies of the night', awesome. The 2player mode is awesome too. I should stop using awesome now.

I can't wait for that game it looks brill happy.gif

Also a lil' gem coming out for the 360 Possession
You basically create your own army of zombies and have to terrorise a city, sounds fun.
What with this, Dead Rising and Resi 5 it seems that the 360 shall provide hours of Zombie fun biggrin.gif

Edited for spelling

Got to play that mini game the other day. Good laugh. True Streets of Rage/DOuble Dragon style. Why pick Swan for your avatar? Surely Ajax is best "you going faggot?".

Returned Tony Hawk, after finishing everything on Sick mode, and got Xenosaga Episode 2. Wasn't aware that the first part had even come out in the UK. About 5 hours into the game and I'm just starting to understand whats going on. Can anyone fill me in on what happened in the first part?

Where did you get that then? I've not read much about the Kong game, but it looks and sounds pretty good.

Where are all the PSP owners saying how great GTA: Liberty City Stories is? No? Well I will then! Its awesome! I can't believe they managed to put a whole GTA game on the PSP. It has everything from the other liberty city game except planes and helicopters, although it does have motorbikes. Tons of missions, side missions, hidden packages, insane stunts, it really is all there. Insides of buildings, cutscenes, audio is a little scratchy on the voice acting but all the radio stations are there, including the ever funny Lazlo, and the songs are mostly real tracks from the real world too.

EDIT: Also some fun multiplayer games too, like Wedding List. Tried this with a friend at work, although we aimed a little too high and weren't anywhere near reaching our quotas by the time the hour was up.

If you have a PSP you should buy this!

Also, has anyone played Star Wars Battlefronts II on the PSP? That was the one I was going to get if I didn't get GTA so I'd be interested to know if its any good.
zeden
Just spoke to a friend of mine who's also got GTA on PSP. He's bringing it over to mine on Friday so I'll be able to rave about it come Monday. He's also just gotten Resi 4 on PS2 and is currently spazzing out over how good it is. Saw it on GameCube ages ago so I'll have to feign interest when he tells me about it. Joy...

I played Hitman: Codename 47 this last week. Nice idea but flawed execution and too short. There wasn't enough open-endedness and too much trial error due the randomness of some of the game. Fun but frustrating. I want to get the sequel now, they say it's a big improvement.

Also played The Warriors a lot a while back. I was dissappointed with 'Unleash the Fury' mode. It was just an extra I suppose but it wasn't very interesting. Additionally, it was perhaps too easy to get 100% in the game, leaving nothing much to be done after completion of the story.
zeden
Games do seem to be getting shorter/easier. In recent times I've been getting a game on a Friday and by Sunday I'll have done almost everything and thats not even a solid weekend of play, I do have other things to do thankfully. I think its a case of trying to appeal to the casual gamers who dont have attention spans long enough to learn complex control systems/rules. Ultimate Spiderman displays this perfectly. Spiderman 2 had tons of moves and it was quite hard to swing around without hitting walls. Ultimate Spiderman on the other hand had an incredibly simple control system which made the game a breeze.
The Warriors was good while it lasted, but it was a short lived experience. In its defence, how do you stretch a plot line like that out any more?

Me too, I think most people have on some level. I think that's why games like the GTA series stand out - all the longevity and replayability's there, as well as them being damn good fun.

Good news for gamers here:

Read about that on Teletext recently. The man is a fool for sure. He said that if a developer made a game where you can kill the programers he would give them $10K. Postal 2 has a bit near the begining where you can do that. He refused to pay them. What fool he is.

*Edit- didnt read the article before posting. Didnt mean to repeat what it says.

Of course, there is a tendency towards more of these RPG's that just go on forever, continual leveling up and leveling up.

has anyone got Star Wars Battlefront 2 yet?
if so is it worth parting with beer money for?

Sure you wouldn't buy it, then buy beer anyway, and sacrifice something else instead?
zeden
I love rpg's that go on forever. Played Morrowind tons. Bring it on I say. Story and game duration are the main reason why I love RPGs so much.
On that line of thought, I started watching the DVD that comes with Xenosaga 2 yesterday. Didn't know what it was about before hand and was glad to find that its a recap of episode 1. Its an edit of cut scenes from the ep1. Usefull but it lasts ages. I had to stop watching it about 2 hours in. Still got another 7 chapters to get through.
As for Star Wars Battlefront 2, its okay. Nothing spectacular. If you've played the first one and liked it, you'll like it. The only massive improvement/addition is the space battle. Flying around in an x-wing is a good laugh. I'd wait till its cheaper myself.

ESPN NFL 2K5.

Picked up this one for about $6 a number of weeks ago, and Madden NFL 2004 for $3 last week, and, so far, 2K5 is proving to be much more enjoyable.

Better camera, better controls, better graphics, better "feel," better commentary... Better everything!

'Tis a shame EA bought out the NFL rights.
fatseff1234
Just getting round to finishing Spiderman 2 after being stuck on the warehouse full of baddies with three mech-warrior type machines to kill, that level was hard.

Thinking of trading in my measley 5 or six games (It's been a bad couple of months game release and funding-wise) which include the mighty Resi 4 might i add, and purchasing GUN.

Also, yay 360 for X-mas for me cool.gif Plus Dead Rising cool.gif cool.gif can't wait.

Well, I've now played GTA and Wipeout on PSP. GTA is impressive. Fitting it on a PSP is a true wonder. Only gripe I have is the controls, the D pad is rubbish and feels quite unresponsive, but thats a relatively small quibble. Wipeout on the other hand is amazing. Seemed quite easy but was good fun.
Also got to play the new Buzz music quiz ps2 game. Even my friend who knows bugger all about music enjoyed it. Then again, we were massively stoned...

Well, you only really need the D-Pad to change radio stations, or do you mean the "analouge" stick? I'll admit it does take a bit of getting used to, and GTA is the only game i use it for, because you have to. It makes your whole hand ache after a while I find.

Wipeout is pretty awesome too.

Both these games, among others, have set the bar pretty high for games on the PSP. I could see it becoming a platform for quick crap games and rubbish ports of lower quality games from other formats, but now I am suitably happy that there will be a healthy sprinkling of quality games in there.

My only worry is FPS's, which I would have to say is my genre of choice. I'll admit I haven't played that one that came out when it was first released, but I haven't heard great things about it. The lack of a decent analuge stick could make things difficult, using the scoped rifle on GTA certainly proved tricky. It was a case of flick left, flick right, flick left a bit, flick left a bit more, flick right, DAMN the buggers moved!
zeden
No, I mean the D pad. My friend may have his options set differently to you I guess.
Still not convinced about PSP. Theres nothing on it that couldnt be done on the PS2. Maybe when some rpgs come out for it my interest will increase.

Thats true, but you can't play a PS2 on the train, unless you have an unfeasibly large bag and a portable LCD TV and 240V power source... as well as massive shoulders to carry it all on.
zeden
The thing I find is that most games dont work very well on the move. Trying to concentrate on a game while on a train/bus as well as watching for potential muggers isn't that easy. I dont really have to travel long distances often so its no use to me.
DS on the other hand has the touch screen, allowing new types of games and an interesting control system. Just waiting for Pokemon DS now. Wireless Pokemon battling! The DS wireless network is coming online soon. Going to have a look see if I've got a hotspot near me!

Just tormented myself by looking at the Japanese Square-Enix site. Looking at all the games that they're getting is a massive irritation. Watched some fottage fo Front Mission 5 which makes me want to learn Japanese.
The American's have it pretty good too. They've got the new Saga game, Romancing Saga, and Full Metal Alchemist 2, both of which are very unlikely to get a UK release.

On a brighter note, I've now played a demo of Soul Calibur 3. Unsurprisingly its amazing. Graphically speaking, its pushing the PS2 to its very limit. The demo also had a very watered down version of the create a character mode. OH MY GOD. Even with an incredibly limited selection of items to select for the character I managed to make a pretty decent looking Goku-esqe character in a matter of minutes. I really cant stress how good this mode it. I can only hope that more fighting games will incorporate features like this in future. Thank god the game is released tomorrow. Going to get stoned, have a hardcore session on that then watch some Japanese films. Cant wait.

So is that a kind of character creation thing, then assign it a certain weapon type and it gest the accompanying moves from the normal character that would use the weapon? I may have to see about getting it.

Also though, didn't SC3 come out a while ago? Or was that SC2? With Link for the GC, Spawn for the Xbox and someone else for PS2. I LOVE Soul Calibur. Its the only game I still play on my ageing, clunking Dreamcast that just about still works, although does sometimes hiccup and just crash the game mid fight.

Does SC3 get an xbox debut as well? I sure hope so.
zeden
Calibur 2 had Link, Spawn and Hehatchi on GC, X-Box and PS2 respectively.
There is no plan for SC3 on X-Box unfortunately.
Moves are assigned to created characters by selecting gender then a job, i.e. ninja, samurai, pirate etc. You then create your character by adding layers to a plain character model. You can change just about everything, body shape, costume accessories. Everything has a colour edit option and you can also select a voice. After that your more or less done. Not sure about specifics, but it seems that you can "level up" your characters abilities by playing the new Tale of Swords strategy game. New jobs are unlocked as you play as well. I can see myself wasting many hours just making characters. Its all good.
Check out the official site- Soul Calibur 3
Top quality flash site. Check the character profiles for movie clips. Looks very nice.

Can't go there as its 'Gamin' related and work doesn't like that. I loved the old Theatre mode where you could watch the motion captured demos. They were awesome.

I bought King Kong today, and holy shit, it's good. Genius controls, incredible graphics, genuine gameplay that makes you jump out of fear. It's overwhelming. Bit short though, I'm already at %17.

Saw an XBox 360 in HMV the other day and couldn't help sarcastically say to my mate ''Wow, never seen one of those before''. King Kong looks pretty damn sweet.

I know it's a few months away, but what are other gamers doing for Winter-een-mas? I've been invited to an all-night Lan/console session at my mates house in the last week of January, should be amazing, and somewhat disorientating.

I wish I had you as a little brother sometimes.

Today, I bought The Thing and Kingdom Hearts for PS2, after finishing The Warriors the other day. I traded in Medal of Honor: European Assault (which by the way is shit) to buy them, and Kingdom Hearts especially looks like good fun. Thr Thing will need to grow on me I think. Seems like a good idea in theory though, which is nice. Though this morning I accidentally shot at my medic and now he won't follow my orders because he thinks I'm untrustworthy. But KH seems good. Fabulous graphics for an older game, and good gameplay. I'm hopeful.

I've seen a rather unhealthy amount of 360s in the past year or so. One props up my monitor on my desk and another two sit next to it. Looking forward to getting my actual retail box though!

I had occasion to take the 360 out for a spin last week, at the local game store, sampling the Call of Duty 2 demo on a rig equipped with a 20" widescreen LCD, and, I must say, as nice as it was, it wasn't half as much fun as the Guitar Heroes demo running on the Playstation 2.

That said, if the new Perfect Dark is any good, I'll definitely be pining for one come Christmas... But it would be more feasible for me just to get a new video card.

Ooh, one of my favourite PS2 games, seeing as it's like FF meets MM(Mickey Mouse), really cool stuff, better than most conventional RPGs seeing as it's not turn based.

Oh it is good. In fact it's the best game ever*. I'm quite liking this quote from a review:

"Simply put, Perfect Dark Zero’s multiplayer is the best singular Live experience ever. It features an incredible breadth of options and gametypes, all of which work flawlessly."

I had a go on Call of Duty 2 on an Xbox 360 in a Game and to be honest I thought it was a bit rubbish. Don't get me wrong, the graphics were VERY sharp, i just didn't like the game itself, and as I don't have a HD TV, I doubt I would notice these pristine graphics anyway.

Thats not to say that I don't want an Xbox 360, but I cant afford it so I have to give myself reasons not to want it.

I'm in no big rush to get one of the new shiny consoles, mostly because I've hardly used mine for anything but a dvd player in the last 2-3 years. Also partly because I spent the bet part of £700 on pc components in June and built a new computer, so it's very swish and I'm loving my games on here for now.
