If you like old-school point and click adventures, then the old Lucasarts sci-fi game Beneath A Steel Sky is now classed as abandonware, so it's now totally legal to download.

Wasn't Beneath a Steel Sky a Revolution game?
NiteFall
Might have been now you come to mention it. Either way it was very good and now it's free.

That wasnt made by lucasarts it was made by revoluton, the same people who made broken sword. tongue.gif
Omniscia
And it isn't abandonware. Abandonware is just a nice term to gentrify piracy. It's still illegal.

BASS was released to the public by Revolution, however. You can play it with SCUMM.

I LOVED pont and click adventures! The broken sword games are still one of my fave games of all time and i have completed all the 2d monkey island games  biggrin.gif .(The 3d one sucked)

I know someone who worked on the last Broken Sword game. I hadn't played them up to then, he lent them me, they're excellent games.

If you guys want to be part of a really big point and click adventure then check out DS gmaes Shadow of the Empire.

They are looking for people to create sprites.

It's gonna be BIG!!

Played Broken Sword 2, Monkey Island 1-3, Discword 1&2 and Grim Fandango. All classy. What I love most about point'n'click/graphic adventure games is the sense of humor. Guybrush is a funny bloke.

A friend of mine has now aquired a Dreamcast, 2 pads and 6 games for £8.99. Lucky bastard.

Going to get Dragon Force, Shing Force 3 and Shining the Holy Ark for my Saturn. Cant wait. Classic rpg/strategy greatness.

I just got GUN earlier and have blasted away through a couple of levels, up until now it seems a decent adventure game. And I loved Day Of The Tentacle. But i never did get to complete it sad.gif

I just got GUN today, not started it yet.

If anyone likes point and click adventures may I suggest the following games.

Gabriel Knights:Sins of the Father. Really old school Sierra game, if you have the CD-Rom version you get voiceovers from people like Mark Hamill, Tim Curry and Michael Dorn.

Gabriel Knight 2:The Beast Within. One of the practically entirely FMV games, but unlike most, this had a damn good storyline, a great musical score and some really good acting and casting.

The Longest Journey. From a Norwegian developer, this game is very well done and is pretty difficult to get hold of. Last I saw, it was on a budget label in the UK.
Dorf
All I remember from the Gabriel Knight series is the cool voice when you click on yourself saying "That's me, Gabriel Knight". smile.gif

Has anyone got MATRIX The Path Of Neo?

if so is it worth parting with money for?

what I have read about it is limited so i dont have any idea how it plays.

I don't think a point and click would be too much of a challenge after having just completed a first person shooter... tongue.gif

Got two gamestoday, Mario Kart DS and Pursuit Force. Mario Kart DS is the one of then only MKs that does the original Super Mario Kart justice, it friggin' rocks. I hope to get the USB WiFi thing for Christmas and I look forward to taking a few people down a couple of pegs (or be taken down myself).

Pursuit Force is a brilliant little title, nothing but action. Jumping on to cars whilst shooting your gun off in slow motion is incredible, great game, really fun, arcade stylee.

Kingdom Hearts kicks much arse. I'll need to play more of The Thing before I make a judgement on that though.
I just don't have any time to play games at the moment.

Has anyone ever tried using one of those Razer high precision gaming mice? Just wondering if they're actually worth the money and if they actually make much of a difference. I like the sounds of 7 programmable buttons and the 2000 dpi precision, but the fact that they're wired puts me off, I've gotten quite used to my wireless peripherals.

I heard bad things about the old tracker ball ones in around 2001/2002, but haven't heard much about the new ones. A friend of mine swears by the logitech opticals and I have heard they're the best value-wise (but this is 3rd hand info obviously).

Seen about 3 hours of gameplay round at my mates house. He was loving it. Very satisfying combat with an insane amount of variety. Very poor saving system which means that you have to finish a level before saving, thus me sitting and watching my mate play 3 hours of the game. Rent it before you buy it.

cuethedog- I'm really trying to hold back the bile here. Why cheat before finishing the game? Its not as if GTA is even that hard.

Played the hardcore 8 player Halo 2 session on Saturday. Cant remember a bit of it really. Too out of it. As ever, a quality time had by all.

I've been playing

http://www.atlus.com/dds/

I don't think it's out over there, but the other SMT game is (Nocturne...aka Lucifer's Call in the UK)

Very good story, setting, "mature" RPG

Alongside that on the portable front I've got the following

All excellent of course, especially Phoenix Wright. I dunno, I really like it. Import/Buy it all!
zeden
I'm about 2/3 of the way through Lucifers Call/Nocturne. Stuck on one stupidly hard boss which is going to require hours of monster training to beat.
What do you actually do in this Phonix Wright game?

GUN is a really great game. A word of warning though, make sure you level up your stats before fighting the last boss, if you don't then he is insanely hard. I spent the better part of yesterday trying to kill him, twat. Anyway I finally did it.

I don't know whats going on but I got King Kong last monday and I completed it the next night and then on friday I got GUN and that was over with last night sad.gif games are too short these days

True I walked over Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3 having finished Doom, it was a walk in the park, didn't require the tiniest iota of intellect, the smallest smidgen of sentience or the hideous humour of a human to do so. Sort of like how I just killed all those terrorists outside my house and am now using a mouse and keyboard to reply to this thread smile.gif

It is a good project though, hats off to the guys at DS games for spending all their own time on building up this project.

Any fans of the 360 may find this somewhat horrifying. I personally find it pretty hilarious, although it is an odd thing to do.

http://www.capcom.com/phoenixwright/

Phoenix Wright is your typical mystery adventure game. No denying that.

It was originally a series of GBA titles (Gyakuten Saiban) in Japan, and one of them got transformed into a DS game. The DS game contains 4 mystery cases, each in order (it's essentially one huge story as they all intertwine).

Each case starts out with a prologue showing the murder (all murder mysteries) happen, then you are thrust into the shoes of Nick "Phoenix" Wright. Basically, you read the story and move from place to place, questioning people and gathering clues. The usual stuff.

When you've exhausted all there is to do outside, you are taken to the courtroom, where the game really shines. Once again, read the story and pay close attention to what they say. Here, it's you versus the prosecutioner in a battle of wits. From here, a witness takes the stand, and gives a testimony. They do their schpiel, and you are then given the chance to Cross-Examine the witness for any holes/lies in their story.

So you read their story, and look carefully at what they say, and compare it to what evidence you have. See something that sounds suspicious?

Press them on it and try and squeeze more info out of them that could possibly lead them to trip up and lead you to that one lie...

Uh oh, something is definitely wrong! Time to call them out on it! From here, you are given the chance to state your case by screaming in big bold words (really, the game has voice recognition!)

Should you give the wrong accusation, the judge will overrule your objection and you will lose a "point". Lose 5 points, and you lose the case. Simple enough, right?

When you finally solve all 4 cases, a DS exclusive 5th case is opened. This case uses the DS touch screen more than the other 4 (since the 4 were originally on the GBA).

AT ITS CORE

Phoenix Wright is an interactive story. Do you like mysteries? Do you like adventure games? Do you like stories? Get Phoenix Wright. I'm positive you will like it. The characters, the setting, the music, I like it all, I dunno what it is. Just get it.

I was talking about developing the game, not playing it tongue.gif

Sorry man, I keep forgetting that thats your thing. Yeah developing is a hard un'. But f the audiences get it then I'm sure it's worthwhile. The DS Games guys are only looking for sprite developers - nothing too tasking, I look forward to playing the full game if it ever happens.

~I still think Goldeneye on the N64 was the best FPS ever, I loved it! Someone should make an online version of the same game, tha'd be cool!

They did (sort of), it was a half-life mod that didn't really catch on. smile.gif
m0r1arty

Do you have a link, I rocked at that game (well on the N64 anyways)

Dorf
I just looked for you and unfortunatly it was so long ago that thier official site is now dead, there's a review here just for interest. But it appears you still have no solution to your desire. sad.gif

The HL mods were all pc only, (for the benefit of those less geeky than I) they were a spin off to half-life where fans made thier own mods which ran on its game engine, so while many were a little buggy and silly, you did get a few well made ones like Day of Defeat and Counter-Strike come from it (Which did appear on consoles once the makers signed it up). I know nothing of the mod community now though as I've not played any of that in a good few years.
m0r1arty
Thanks very much, I shall find the mod real soon.

You have just brought the biggest smile to my (and many of my friends) faces in a long time.

I cannot thank you enough.

Once I get it I will be on Skype if you ever fancy a game,

There was something I read a while ago where a group of guys were re-making Goldeneye on the internet with improved graphics but the same level design, I'll try to find a link to it.

That's quite a funny concept but a bit of a waste of money and a fairly decent console.

GoldenEye was excellent, yes. But, for my money, Perfect Dark was far more enjoyable in multiplayer. It had larger maps, more weapons, customizable scenarios, detailed player statistics, bot play...
fatseff1234
Goldeneye was amazing but unfortunately I never played Perfect Dark, i have heard good things though

Phonix Wright sounds like a real laugh. Might have to look into that one. Any info on Under the Knife?

Read about that fool who smashed a 360 the other day. Apparently he already has smashmyps3.com and smashmyrevolution.com set up. The riots over limited supply are funnier though.

Played Golden Eye and Perfect Dark a ton back in the day. The laptop gun is one of my fav weapons of all time. Only problem was that I had one friend who was unbeatable because it was all he played.

That was a beast, set it up as a sentry gun as well and herd your opponents into a trap. Fantastic. There are too few games with proxy mines, sentry guns and other trap based mayhem. Too much running round shooting, not enough cunning and traps.
maian
That was what I loved about GoldenEye and the original Perfect Dark, if you tried to play it like a usual frantic shooter you would tend to die very quickly, especially if you played it on the hardest settings. Too many shooters just depend on shooting things as many times as possible rather than attempting stealth or headshots. The multiplayer was delightfully mad and frantic though. Spent a surprising large part of last year playing Goldeneye with mates at Uni and it's still pretty amazing.
Dorf
The problem with the proximity mines were that once you all got really good with them, it ended up that you couldn't move without blowing up on about 90% of the map, or people would mine the spawn points (which soon got them a real life slap).

I really enjoyed those two games at the time, don't think I would so much now because I'm used to the control a mouse gives you, but they shall always remian fond memorys.
