The laptop gun was particularly effective in The Grid, in that large room with the glass ceiling. Just turn on slow-motion, throw the laptop gun on the wall at the rear centre of the room, find a pillar to hide behind, and watch the mayhem.

I got The Sims 2 yesterday, played it for two hours said "This is shit" then traded it in for Need For Speed: Most Wanted. Haven't played it yet but am getting the sneaking suspicion that tomorrow I'll be trading it in for some other half-assed attempt at a game.
DazDaMan
Had a crack at the original Die Hard Trilogy (PSOne) last night on the PS2. Great fun! Pain in the arse is that you can't save your progress - and there are a shitload of floors to go up in the first game! rolleyes.gif

Got my Saturn last night... Yeah, oh yeah.
First thing I threw in was Sonic Jam. Watching the old Japanese adverts for Sonic 1 almost brought a tear to my eye. Theres a great little stop motion animation of Sonic dancing on top of a car. The ad ends with the campest man in the universe shouting "Sonic the Hedgehog!". Its difficult to describe the hilarity but believe me, it was good.
Played some Sega Rally after about 5 years and found that I'm nearly as good as I used to be back in the day. Guess its like riding a bike.
Virtua Cop 2 next with my brother. One of the light guns I got is a bit duff but as expected, I loved it.
Finally I played X-Men Childern of the Atom. Great Capcom fighting game. When I was younger I got my ass kicked all the time even on the lowest difficulty setting. After years more of Streetfighter practice I'm still shit at this game though. Truely hardcore.
I could go on for hours but I should really stop. Anyone got suggestions for games to get? The list already includes Shining Force 3, Shining the Holy Ark and Dragon Force.

Is that the same game they released on the Mega CD?
zeden
Nope, this one came a few years later. Never actually played a Mega CD in my life. Tis a piece of poop.
maian
It wasn't too bad, though only Sonic CD and Shining Force CD were actually any good. It had potential, and had it been a success the PlayStation wouldn't exist so it was an important console.
zeden
Unfortunately the only thing that the Mega CD marks for me is the first of Sega's mistakes which lead it to where it is today.
At the same time as the Mega CD was out Nintendo were in talks with Sony to make a similar product for the SNES. Nintendo cancelled this and this spurred Sony to develope the technology for themselves. Had this not happened Square would have still been making games for Nintendo, Sony would probably be helping Nintendo out and todays market would be very different. Funny really.
maian
Yeah, that's what I was alluding to in my other post. It was hardly the worst console ever, I think that Sony made one with Panasonic in the early 90's, and not forgetting the Virtual Boy. Still, it was their first major failure. Shame really as they were reet good.
zeden
Figured you may have been aluding to that. Felt that I should educate the masses with my random knowledge of video game past.

Worst consoles? Atari Lynx, Jaguar? I believe the Panasonic jobby was called the 3DO. First console to use cd. The only games I can remember seeing for it were Army Men brand, which is shite. There was a console in developement until recently called the Phantom which was apparently going to use download games only. Oddly enough its fallen through and all the people responsible have washed their hands of it. Cant really blame them, tis a shite idea.

Die hard was my favourote arcade game, there was one that I used to go to, it was 30p per play, and you moved around beating the shit out of people in 3d, there were guns, but also fire axes and all sorts. Loved that game!!! If i ever ventured into buying a cabinet, i would like it to be that one.

Thats Die Hard Arcade for the Saturn. Cheers for that. Just reminded me about it.

I don't know if the Atari Lynx and Jaguar could be classed as the worst consoles. Atari had a good development arm, but their marketing sucked majorly. Their last big success was the Atari ST, they developed a successor called the Falcon which was meant to basically kick ass, but the marketing was non existent.

Who cares about worst consoles, everyone knows that the N64 was the best.

Contraversial one fatseff.

I'd personally go with what I'm sure will be an unpopular choice (mostly because SONY took a very businessman-like line in defeating the Saturn, as opposed to duking it out like the SNES and MegaDrive had), the Playstation, I loved my MegaDrive and SNES but the sheer volume of games on the playstation (which wern't all dodgy in the early days) gave you so much choice. I think the fact it just happened to be the leading console at the time when games took a step forward is the main reason, games like Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, were just such a step forward from thier predecessors.

That said, I probably had the most multi-player fun on my N64, and will always remain in love with the original Mario Kart. I don't think I've ever owned a console I didn't like, except maybe the disapointment felt when I finally got my hands on the MegaCD.

Oho yes, got my Xbox 360 today. That is, my actual, personal one as opposed to my 3 work ones.

Nice, does it adversly effect your enjoyment of a game if you did a lot of work on it? (I would assume it would a bit because of spoilers etc). Or is it like when actors say they can still enjoy the movie they were in?
DOD-MDK
Day Of Defeat:Source. Im in a DOD clan and I had to get it.
zeden
GOt to agree with Dorf on the Playstation front. Much as I love the Saturn, Playstation changed my gaming preferences. The sheer quantity of great games for it is staggering, plus the fact that aside from graphics many of them still stand up today.
DazDaMan
Just started replaying an old favourite on the PS2 - GTA3 biggrin.gif
fatseff1234
Now don't get me wrong the Playstation was a good console, afterall it hadt he Final Fantasy games 'nuf said. BUT form e that's all it had whereas the N64 had The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Mario 64, Pilot Wings, 1080, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark plus a whole host of others. The N64 just had so much more fun factor for me.

And Nonus: You lucky twat. I have to wait until Play.com decide to deliver mine mad.gif twats

Anyone played True Crime - New York City yet? I'm thinking of getting it....

Not as much as I thought it would actually. I thought by the time the game got released I'd be sick to death of our multiplayer, seeing as I implemented most of it, but I just spent an hour playing PDZ Capture the Flag on Live and had a great time. I didn't tell anyone in the match who I was, so I had to resist the urge to ask people if they'd seen any bugs that needed fixing wink.gif.

That's pretty sweet Nonus, and very well deserved.

Too bad we testers were too far down the ladder to get anything cool. Still, I'm happy to have my name in the credits cool.gif

I have mostly been playing King Kong on my new xbox 360...

(I work in a video game shop so I got to buy mine early, but shhh)

I know. Though I think some people managed to win free copies of Fable in that seepstakes thing.

Cool, that was one of the last things I saw before I finished and it really put a huge grin on my face. Especially since I was convinced I wouldn't get in due to me only being there when I was needed, but I was the first prt-timer and got in by default happy.gif

I recently downloaded a Babylon 5 flight sim. Fan produced but really, really good. Find it rightabout here. Quite hard to get the hang of, but now I can do the classic Bab 5 StarFury thing of flying along then using my momentum to carry me past my target while I turn and fire. biggrin.gif

I fail to see the point of that remark. Any words to justify that comment?

Get to play 360 tonight. Looking forward to playing Perfect Dark. Mates getting Kameo, PDZ, Project Gotham, Condemned and one other game as well as 3 pads. Got a long weekend ahead. cool.gif

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Halo 1/2.5 patch actually comes built into the console. Read a fair bit about it, but nothing concrete.

I haven't heard anything about it, what is it supposed to do? Graphical and audio enhancements, or more?

EDIT: And will 360 players be able to play on live with xbox players? If not thats going to cause a serious reduction in the player base for both sets of players...
zeden
I gather that it is a graphical overhaul bringing it more in line with the graphics of the highest quality pc. A few additoinal tweaks as well. Not sure about the Live issue. Cant see that it would be a problem.

I've heard that this Condemned is quite impressive, though I haven't seen it. Been playing the other 3 all week (well, one of them, I've been playing it for over two years!).

I'm not sure what else to get on 360 yet. CoD 2 looks reasonable, but will be better on PC, same applies for Oblivion (although that won't be out till next year now apparently sad.gif), Quake 4 I already have on PC...
Amazongirl
Been playing Mario kart double dash On the GC quite alot recently, thanks to my housemate who keeps making me, nothing wrong with that!

Whenever I see my best mate, I play Mario kart on the ds as u only need one gamecart. he doesnt offer to play often cause its the only game i play against him that i kick Serious ass at.

That and that yoshi game
maian
I just realised teh other day that I haven't played games for fun since July, so I have devoted quite a few hours to playing UT 2004 and Black and White 2, although I'm out-of-practice, still fun. It's also to get into top form for my mates Winter-een-mas party in January.

It looks rather good does Condmened. And no need to keep rubbing it in tongue.gif

And I was going to suggest Dead Rising although I've just been doing a little research and it's not out until Febuary now sad.gif I've heard good things about Project Gothan Racing 3 if your into that sort of thing
zeden
Well I've played the 360 for 2 days straight now.

Condemned- Looks very very nice, has a sick storyline and has a good atmosphere but gameplaywise its rubbish. Incredibly linear. Variety of weapons is poor. Completely average.

Project Gotham 2- Graphics=wow my eyes are bleeding. Same hardcore driving of the predecessors with the graphics turned up to 11. Bandstands full of 3d people. Very impressive, especially the in-car view.

Kameo- Best game I've seen so far. Vivid, interesting design. Limited RPG elements with tons of action. Hundreds of highly detailed models on screen at one time. Full scale warfare. Nice. Seems a little easy though.

Perfect Dark- Only saw the first level and played a couple of multi player deathmatches. Looks amazing, unsurprisingly. Not really played enough to make a judgement to be honest.

Overall I wasn't that amazed. It certainly is a leap forward in terms of graphics but the current games are nothing that special.
DazDaMan
Picked up GUN and Call of Duty: Big Red One at the weekend. Not played them yet, but looking forward to some guns and carnage! biggrin.gif
feck off!
Been playing Command And Conquer Generals whenever I get time recently. I'm still pretty shite though.

Ditch that and get Red Aleart 2. Trust me, its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.
Punkass
I got "Gun" as well, someone said it was GTA style, which it is, but there is not an auto-aim. I am shite at FPSs on a controller, neat game so far though.

Edit: I know this is not an FPS, but you still have to aim.
