Hi All
I'm in Australia and very excited that Shaun is opening in cinemas here this week!
Of course I couldn't wait that long and have already imported the DVD from the UK (bless multi-region DVD players!)
I've heard that Simon and Edgar are in Australia doing some press this week and I'm desperate to know which city/cities they will be in, which newspapers they will be interviewed in, which tv shows they will be on, which radio stations they will speak or whatever.
So if anyone knows anything about what's going on down here PLEASE let me know!!
Cheers

Same here please! I hope they don't do Rove...

I don't reckon they will do Rove because it's taped in Melbourne and they seem to be only in Sydney.
Did you hear them on Triple J brekfast this morning with Adam & Wil?
It was pretty funny!!
I only heard it by sheer fluke. I was driving to work flicking between radio stations (as I always do) and heard Adam saying "Coming up after this song we have Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg). I was just pulling in to the car park at work so I sat in my car and listened to them and then I was late for work!!! Ooops!
But it was worth it!

Noooooo - I missed it!!!
Was it a long interview? What did they say? Did Adam & Wil like the movie?

BLOODY HELL! I missed it! The one day I take off school, and sleep in! I am so annoyed, I cannot express just how annoyed I am! ARGH!
What happened? Can you just say it was short and boring, so I don't feel too bad?
AusChick
Oct 6 2004, 11:21 AM
Yeah it was pretty short. They talked for 5 or 10 minutes then played a song, then did the weather, then talked for another 5 minutes or so and that was it.
They didn't really talk about the movie much. They just kind of stuffed around and talked shit really. lol.
So did you guys see them interviewed on SBS tonight???
I missed it. Bugger!!
Cheers

There were a few short snippets of the interview but not really anything exciting (except I was shocked at the sound of Edgar's voice!). It was mainly just footage and the review. Which leaves me gagging for SotD!
AusChick
Oct 6 2004, 12:12 PM
Yeah Edgar has a really kind of soft n sweet voice doesn't he?
So are you gonna see SotD at the cinemas soon?
Which state are you in?
I'm in Melbourne. Going to the Village cinemas at the Jam Factory tomorrow night to see it.
Have you seen Spaced too?
Cheers

Yeah my brother, sister and I are both really into Spaced, which is why we are gagging to see SotD so bad. Going to Melbourne on Friday to see it with them. Should be awesome.
Edgar's voice gave me a shock as it is rather girly and after seeing him with his big beard, I was expecting it to be really gruff and manly!
He is damn hot underneath that beard as well!

We haven't got the comedy channel (damn) but my bf saw a few episodes of Spaced back when it was on the ABC. He really liked it and decided to get the DVD of the first series shipped over from the UK (bless multi-region DVD players!)
He showed it to me and I loved it too! Then we got the second series DVD shipped out here too! Can't get enough of it!
So when we heard about Shaun we got that DVD shipped out here as well!! (that multi-region player is paying for itself already)
So you're in Victoria too then? Cool!
Do you know which cinema you're going to see it at?
Cheers

Nah not yet, my brother is the Melbournite so we will be dragged along to whatever cinema he wants to see it at.
My sis and I watched Spaced from when it first started, and then when they replayed it on the ABC we taped them. The tapes are wearing pretty thin though!
My brother's got the DVD's so now we just nick them off him!
He has SotD as well but we are waiting to see it on the big screen... ordering the DVD already and it hasn't been released! We're both impatient Aussies aren't we?

Hey, you Aussies!

Slightly off-topic question here.
Any idea why some British sitcom dvds get released in Australia first? For example, I got my Black Books series 2 disc from an AU vendor before it even showed up for order in the UK.

Absolutely no idea! That's a bit bizarre though. *scratches head*
Just be thankful that you get them all shown. We aren't getting Black Books series 3 shown on TV!

Errr, and I think that was way too much info...

How odd that English stuff would get released out here first!
Make sure it's a good quality recording and with all the extras and stuff though.
Lots of shows and movies had dodgy versions released with no extras and with really crummy prints which haven't been cleaned up at all.
We've actually imported a lot of DVDs from the UK because the version released in Australia is so crap!

I wouldn't get Black Books series 2 or 3 from Australia- both of them are completely free of special features. We did get series 2 ages before the UK, but the UK got it with commentaries and everything. Series 3 has only just been released here, again featureless for some reason. Go the import!

It's really weird how crap like that happens.
Curse the twit who invented region encoding.
And bless my multi-region player!!

Yeah, I found that out after I got it.
Oh well. I should have the complete 3-series boxed set next week.

seen it twice (i'm not a nerd, i swear)... the soundtrack comes ut on sunday (10th)... maybe it will alleviate the depression of the libs winning (which they surely will)...
btw... did anyone else get really upset during the film? i know i did about five times. the acting was so good that it really knocked me out... i'll stop blathering, i know i'm months behind, but i saved myself for a good quality filmgoing experience.

Yeah I fear you are right about the libs getting back in. I'm not sure that labor would be much of an improvement these days but I just think ANYONE is better than John Bush-wannabe Howard. Oh well, he'll probably get back in and then retire and then we will be stuck with Peter Costello. ARGH!!! Costello is my local member! How disgusting is that.
Anyway enough political ranting from me. I'm going out tonight anyway so I'll forget all about it and probably wont find out what happened until I wake up tomorrow with my hangover.
But yeah heaps of places in Shaun that I got upset. Don't want to put any specifics here in case of spoilers for people who haven't seen it - but I think the film was very touching in places *sniff*

Finally saw Shaun in cinemas on Saturday after seeing it on DVD the week before. I'm glad I saw it on the fairly large screen.
Interesting to see how well it does in the next few weeks.
(PS: I'm glad they used the original UK poster ^_^) Might try to pick one up.

Yeah it was really sad in places, but for some of it I was reminded of the paintball scene in Spaced.
They are all really tip top actors, they really prove that they can do more than just comedy!

Yeah it's cool to see on the big screen isn't it? I also thought it was fun to see with an audience. There were loads of laughs and a really good reaction from the crowd when I saw it.
The posters are cool aren't they? One of the guys at my bf's work saw 7 Shaun posters in a row on a wall near him. So when he was out at night walking the dog he nicked one and they now have it on the wall in their office!
The only problem is, when they went past again there was only one poster left!! Looks like everyone is stealing them! Oh no!
Maybe we should leave the stealing thing until the film has finished its run. We want it to get as much exposure and advertising as possible. (and that's my comunity service announcement for today)

I was in the city (Sydney) yesterday and saw a lot of election campaign-type posters saying "Vote 1 Shaun". It was pretty impressive.

I was so excited when we first saw one!

Personally I think Rove is alright. It's sort of odd though that the show is almost identical to "Hey Hey It's Saturday" with maybe a bit of the old Steve Vizard tonight show thrown in. And people who thought those shows were so daggy which their parents watched are now all going "Oh Rove is so cool and it's all so new and innovative" erm, what??
Full credit to Rove though, he's done really well for himself. I used to be quite into the Melbourne comedy scene and remember getting pissed at parties with Rove when he was a complete nobody. He's come a long way baby

Not really "knew" him exactly, but since I was always hanging out with comedians and "friends of comedy" in those days I ended up at the same parties as him a few times.
I remember he was doing a show with "Duff" (who is a complete lunatic) during the comedy festival, I think it was 96. They had the tinyest room in the Melbourne Town Hall and couldn't fill it. My friend and I got comp tickets to the show because they needed to fill up the audience a bit. To be honest the show was complete shit. The funniest jokes they had was one of them putting a blue swimming cap on his head and pretending to be a smurf - and one of them fell off the back of the stage and the other one said "Don't worry, it's just a stage you're going through".
My friend had a crush on Rove in those days so we hung out with Duff and Rove at the after party on the last night of the festival. The four of us were the last ones to leave. It was actually daylight as we were staggering out into the streets of Melbourne. People in suits were on their way to work (it was a Monday morning).
Ah those were the days. lol.
So yeah I was quite suprised when Rove suddenly got this huge gig on telly and became a household name almost over night. He's done really well for himself though I reckon. Good on him.
Cheers
