Raven
Well it looks like the revival of the animated series of He-Man must have sparked someone's some interest because there's now another film version in the pipe line, according to Variety magazine, as reported by the BBC.

You can read more here.

I wonder if either Courtney Cox or Robert Duncan McNeill will be in this version tongue.gif

I saw a report in Total Film about 2 years ago that John Woo was planning on a He Man movie. Apparently wrestle-fiend The Rock was in line to play He-Man.

Excellent.

Geez. That really sounds dire. Only thing I could think of as worse would be Michael Bay directing a Transformers movie. Which thankfully will never happen.

D'oh!

Basically, I think the only way to do a He Man movie correctly would be to stray far from the source material. He Man had some ridiculous aspects that won't translate to the screen well. Problem with this is.. you'll have He-Man purists (ridiculous as that is) who'll complain about the fact that you've deviated from the cartoon's mythology.

Now.. if they make a movie version of the He-Man from this web comic, I'm all about that. Comedy seems like it would be a safer course.

I don't agree. The new He-Man animation, with the manga stylings is superb, but hasn't changed anything of the essence of the He-Man uinverse. They play up his Super-powered abilities more than the moralistic and rather limited original series did. Done as a high-action, Superman versus Lord of the Rings concept, there would be no need to veer away from the original settings or characters. The other Masters of the Universe are excellent too - real arse-kicking heroes with hightened special powers.

He-Man directed by John Woo.hmmmmmm. Looks like he gave up on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then.

I am looking forward to Chow Yun Fat in a blonde wig camping it up with various other freaks and beefcakes, in slow-mo two hand sword action. With doves. And a morale at the end.

Haven't seen the new He-Man animation, but that does sound cool. I might be completely wrong. Guess I'm just jaded by the movie industry's tendency to get things wrong. I guess I'm just picturing the transformation from Prince Adam to He-Man as looking very cheesy, especially if they try to pull off Cringer/Battle Cat along with it.. because then we are almost guaranteed bad CGI. Maybe if they just try to reign in some of He-Man elements that would require CGI to make them a little less obvious.. it could be done. I trust John Woo to make good movie.. he has usually entertained me in the past (Broken Arrow was terrible though). Then again, I had my doubts about the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Peter Jackson did the job and did it beyond my expectations.

As far as other characters in the series, there are quite a few really interesting characters to choose from, but if they try to incorporate all of the characters things could go very wrong. (I can just picture Mechaneck and how awful that would translate to live action.)

Point taken - some of it could look naff. But X-Men could have be bad aswell - what do you want, yellow spandex? - but the production design work anchored the more fanciful elements in reality. So I think it could work....

But please keep John Woo away from it - he's rubbish.

Surely they'd need to get over the one 'problem' with He-Man, in that, once he hulked out he was unstoppable, so unless he suddenly becomes weakend in the presence of green rocks (or worse, someone taking his miracl-muscle concetrate) it'll just be incredibly shallow

Skeletor: I'll defeat you He-Man!
Floaty-Ghosty-Thing*: Go on He-Man, Grethor-up my man!
he-Man: No can do....another 90 mins to fill.......[whistles]

*what the hell was that?!

haha.. I hadn't really thought about what he's done lately.. I was picturing the John Woo of the olden days.. The Killer.. Hard Boiled.. and later stupid movies like Face Off that entertained me.. but looking at his profile on IMDB, he's done some real crap in the last decade...

I guess time will have to tell on this, but I really think it has potential to be a very bad movie. But maybe I'll find myself pleasantly surprised.

Thing about He-Man is, that he will save all life, whether it`s evil or not, so Skeletor can play on that. Either that, or bring Hordak into it as well, to make things tougher for the Most Powerful Man in the Universe.
Henry Krinkle
He might be 'unstoppable', but the bad guys in the new cartoon series certainly give him a run for his money.
I just hope that they don't do a 'genesis' style story. I'm fed up of seeing superhero movies that deal with the genesis of the superhero. I wish that for once they would just jump straight into it. If they tell me that Prince Adam can change into the super strong He-Man I'll just accept it. I don't need a whole film detailing how it happened.
WiseJoeyD
Oh please god don't let them be "ironic" and introduce a gay substory!!
