Either of Bill Bailey's current DVDs are great, though you should hold off on Bewlderness since it is being paired as a double release with one of his older tours. Part Troll is really quite astounding and I can't recommend it enough. Politics, music, sci-fi, fox-hunting, Bush, Chris De Burgh, and a really great finale. Well worth a watch.

Part Troll is better on DVD than it was live as he cut out the old material.
Just a shame he didn't cut out the cringeworthy drug section. You should see how many negative reviews that one section earned him on his chortle profile.
I have yet to buy the new set of Bewilderness and Cosmic Jam, but I own the old Bewilderness signed, so I am quids in and rather happy at it's having been retracted from the market!!

He might do a seperate London tour afterwards, maybe. Croydon's kind of London- well it's part of Greater London anyway.

Went to see Ardal O'Hanlon on the penultimate date of his tour at The Broadway Theatre in Peterborough last night. It was jolly brill. For some reason I was half afraid he would use a lot of old material, but I was pleased to find his wonderfully surreal take on 'stuff' was predominantly new material, aside from only a few bits that I recalled from his recent appearance on the
Jack Dee: Live At The Apollo series. Damn good show.
Also, I have to just mention his supporting guest act, the up-and-coming
Hal Cruttenden - camp-sounding (but actually very middle class), the audience warmed to him almost immediately. His comical Blair-esque speech at the end was superb (
and freakishly accurate; enough to give John Culshaw reason to panic). Well worth seeing if you get the chance.

They showed the 2005 Just For Laugh Montreal Gala on TV here last night, The quality was very high. Noel Fielding stuck mostly to his tried and true piece, but - as with a lot of the show - the best bit was Wil Anderson interviewing the comics seperate to the show. Lee Mack in particular and also Adam Bloom, but also Lenny Henry who I've never really appreciated before.
There also was this guy Mitch Hedberg who was funny but died earlier this year, and that was how he was introduced (on the show, not at the gala where he performed still living). He was literally reading his jokes out from a piece of paper he had on chair - "These aren't jokes written here... they're affirmations... 'You're doing fine'".

I saw John Cleese last night in dunedin.
His life, time, & current medical problems.
It was fantastic. Funny & entertaining anecdotes. a couple of classic sketches, & his daughter was part of the act too.
The show is available on dvd here, so if you're interested, I'm sure you could get hold of a copy.

Saw double-bill of Noel Fielding and Gary Le Strange last night.
Gary Le Strange - Possibly the funniest gig I've seen all year! Le Strange is a spoof New Romantic musician who looks like a cross between Gary Numan and Adam Ant. He played mostly new songs, including the inspired 'Midnight Bastard' and 'Black Man-Doll'. I haven't laughed so hard for ages. He totally won over the crowd with his utterly ridiculous but energetic performance, and the deliberately awful similies and 80s imagery in the songs.
Noel was Noel as usual. Some of the newer stuff was quite good, but he relies far too much on charisma, and the adoration of the crowd to cover up all his faults. He constantly forgets material, or does it wrong, or excuses the lack of a strong punchline. I think it shows how much structure Julian Barratt brings to the Mighty Boosh series. Without him, Noel wouldn't get away with it. Maybe I've seen him too much this year, but I've been rather underwhelmed with his last few shows.
