Going to see our pal Martin White with Richard Herring, Jason Manford and Russell Kane in Leceister on the 15th - that's if he says he doesn't mind us turning up roughly an hour late.

They sent us tickets for last Tuesday at the BIC instead of last night.

Who was the special guest?

Kevin Eldon was there... was he there every night? It was genius

Some of the material was from last years tour but I barely even noticed untill the 'house plant with Malibu' video came on.

The segway gong jousting also won.

No, they did a different Kraftwerk inspired song about Das Hosenbugler! It was genius. First of all Eldon came out and said some funny things in German and then they emerged on Segways going around the stage while a video played with the song, which was hilarious in itself about looking smart with the aid of a trouser press. When the cameraman fell down Bill Bailey was afraid of other items falling so brought a broom out and left t on the floor, later, Eldon nearly fell off his Segway due to it. It was great, they were trying not to burst out laughing.

Yes, there's still a fair few dates left on the tour too - including Portsmouth Guildhall on 5th December wink.gif

I think from what I have heard he only went to a few nights so we were lucky. Das Hosenbugler video won so hardcore!

Went to see Bill last night too, at the Brighton Centre. Fantastic gig, if anyone's thinking of snapping up last minute tickets please do so! Unfortunately, Kevin and the rest of support can only do a few dates for each tour that most suits them. Otherwise it would be silly for him to follow bill around on every single tour date just for a 5 minute part of the encore!! So he wasn't there for ours which was a bit of a disappointment, but Bill made up for it with a guitar rendition of 'The Ballad' (The duck lies shredded in a pancake, soaked in the hoisin of your lies... yeah that one).

Over all I loved every minute of it. Couldn't get a CD because of annoying people I was with and their need to get out of the venue as quickly as possible. Was especially gutted about that because Llama couldn't make it and I was hoping to give her a copy.

I've got ham but I'm not a hamster...

Wey! A buddy o' mine's got a spare ticket to Mr. Bailey tomorrow night at Wembley Arena. Score!

Who else is doing support then. Kevin Eldon was only on for about 10 - 15 minutes at the end of the first half at Bournemouth so it makes sense that he isnt at every night just for that. He did 'The Ballad' too, I love that song, the man is a legend

No one, they've cut the whole of that bit out of the show. But the segway with the trouser press still happened. With trouser press/gong jousting. I want to mention the amazing finale but I don't want to spoil it for people if you know what I mean? It was rather special! He is indeed a legend.

I think my highlights were:

-ASDA
-The AA letter
-The Emo Song

Don't you just hate it when you come away from a gig and you really struggle to remember a lot of what happened for weeks?
Atara
ASDA was amazing... I ain't gonna be your bitch

Tonight's show was rather good.

I was forced to watch the screens throughout, however.

Highlights were ASDA and nazi gold. Thought the first half was the stronger half.

I wasn't really feeling the Kraftwerk section or the bit where he came up on 5 different screens and argued with himself.

Also, he played with a band called the Bollywood somethings which, whilst musically wonderful, was not in keeping with the rest of the show and came a bit out of the blue. It would have worked far better as a show closer, as opposed to performing with a fantastic band then coming back out on his own and playing an acoustic guitar, which was a bit of an anticlimax.

The section with the band was all a bit odd as he seemed to be taking himself quite seriously at that point. BB's not really a strong vocalist which is all part of the humour of his act so to see him playing rockstar was perplexing as it is not playing to his strengths at all.

Overall, however, the show was fantastic.

Does anyone know when the DVD will be out?

I missed the Cardiff leg due to being skint, although I was informed by one of the girls in work that it was aces.

Teeheehee! happy.gif

It was a great show indeed.

On a slightly unrelated, Live-Comedy-By-Proxy note, my brother saw Andy Parsons on Thursday night in Bangor, and informs me that he was very funny indeed. Friends of mine also saw him a few weeks previous in Brighton, where a moth apparently landed on his head during his set, thus interrupting his flow - as a result he forgot to set up a joke (the punchline for which was met with near silence at the end of his set). Heehee. Other than that, he was most amusing.

THE TEN BEST STAND-UPS IN THE WORLD EVER

"A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM STEWART LEE, 41ST BEST STAND UP EVER.

Last year Channel 4 astounded comedians and comedy fans with the show The 100 Best Stand-Ups, a definitive list of the official best comedians of all time. I arrived at a pleasing number 41. But was the list really definitive? Apparently it was based on comedy industry insiders' advice, critical acclaim, and public votes on a shortlist of 150 pre-selected acts.

Now, I am a comedy industry insider, member of the public and critic, writing for The Sunday Times, Wire, Bucketful Of Brains and Good Housekeeping amongst others. And so I have arrived at my own definitive list of the best ten stand-ups of all time, based on my insider knowledge and a secret ballot of myself conducted by me. Over half of the acts finally selected weren't even in the stupid Channel 4 short list of 150. Some I wanted to include were either unavailable (Daniel Kitson) or unwilling to participate in what seemed to them to be a self-aggrandising and dishonest conceit (Jerry Sadowitz).

But basically, this is as near as dammit to the five shows I'd like to see most if I were told I could only ever see five more stand-up shows in my life, for some reason. And remember, I know more about this subject than you, probably. Some of the acts in the season are so brilliant their genius has prevented them from becoming household names. One is so famous he or she cannot even be named, like some kind of Old Testament deity, or government assassin. I'm going to be do 20-30 mins of material that's brand new or so old it seems new each week too. And there's a special deal if you book for 4 of the 5 shows.

This will be the best season of stand-up anywhere ever. And yes, I know there are no Americans."

Ah, I'm going to see him on Tuesday 18th. Standing room only, but not that'll detract from the comedy, surely. I was mighty tempted by those gigs too, especially the mystery guest and the Harry Hill one.

Zoe
Now the Bloomsbury are saying they're not on the system yet because they haven't confirmed the support acts and to try back in a few days. They can't give a definite date.

Great.

It's either ring up everyday like a dickhead, or wait a few days and risk getting crappy seats.

I want to get my brother Harry Hill tickets for his Christmas present.

Very nice. I'm mighty tempted (seeing Harry Hill at the Battersea Arts Centre a couple of years ago was perhaps the most face-achingly funny stand-up performance I've ever seen). But I seem to be buying tickets for events constantly and part of me feels I shouldn't be because you pay for it ages in advance so when you get to the actual performance day, you feel like it was free. I'm a ticket whore.

Of all the venues in London, why they have to pick Brixton Academy is beyond me. That venue totally sucks, I think I'll give it a miss.

Saw Tim Minchin a few nights ago at the Powerhouse in Brisbane, it was incredible. It was easily the smallest venue I've ever been to with just four rows of seats there. I managed to nab front row centre seats as well which was great. An amazing gig.

That would have been awesome! I loved it on Spicks and Specks when he sang the Adam Hills song. Too cute.
Jessopjessopjessop
Stewart Lee on Sunday was good, but I often find myself admiring his craft more than his jokes at times. Although his material is extremely clever and well-constructed and his command of the audience is astounding, this show did have slightly weaker - or rather, less funny sections - but even those were deliberate, pushing the crowd's patience as much as the art form that is stand-up.

I did think it was a little weaker than his previous material, but he's the only stand-up comedian I've seen who really treats it like an art form. Did he do the whole drop-the-mike and walk-off routine with you? I'm certain it was part of the show, but then again there were some genuine arseholes taking the piss, heckling and generally disrupting the flow of the routine who we all wanted to shut up. Still, few stand-ups can be quite so insulting to their audience and get away with it.

Oh, I dunno, I thought he summed up Donnie Darko pretty well...
Zoe
Yeah... I don't get why that's funny.

Hooray for subjectivity!
maian
I can't quite see it either. It's a good summary but it didn't strike me as being actually funny.

But hey, different strokes and other platitudes.
Zoe
Is it because people are confused by Donnie Darko? Otherwise it's just reciting the plot of a film to music, if people find that innately funny there's tons of mileage in it for him.

I have to say I don't agree with the end of his summary about telekinesis, Donnie just chooses to stay in bed.

That's not why it's funny is it? Misunderstanding the end of the film?

Didn't think so. I think this is a matter of variety in funny bones.
Sean of the Dead
I don't find him particularly funny, I just like videos in which people dressed up in rabbit costumes hump the air... It's an aquired taste.
Zoe
Of course! Now I get it.
