Two previews at the Hen and Chickens yesterday:
'The Clock Hour', very funny sketch comedy in a twilight zone stylie. Contained, one of the best jokes about shitting in pockets I've ever seen, it made the guy I was with cry actual tears.
'Nick Mohammed is a Character Comedian', self-explanatory title, funny stuff. I was sat next to Kathy Burke who seemed to greatly enjoy it.
Good fun all round.
And Emma Watson walked past me while I was outside having a fag.

Last night myself and my new London pal Fiona went to see a preview of 'Zoe Gardner's Fault' at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden.
It was very funny and clever, which was a huge relief as she's my flatmate and lying about liking it would have been awkward.
Great character comedy, with a post-modern twist - two thumbs up.

Bridget Christie: The Court of King Charles II the Second.
Really good preview, I think Bridget's brilliant. She's a fantastically likeable and quirky stage presence, and her material is imaginative and well written.
We saw her at All Hallows on the Wall, which is a converted Church and a near perfect setting, complete with candles, red wine and lots of oranges.
I *heart* the Restoration.

Saw a work in progress of Kitson's 66a Church Road : A Lament, Made of Memories and Kept in Suitcases last week. Still and bit rough round the edges, and his props don't work yet (although he did explain what they're going to do, bless 'im) but very touching and, of course, very, very funny. Definitely worth catching in Edinburgh, unless you don't like whimsical beardy stammerers.

Hey now! T'other day, I saw the poster for this and thought that it looked my kinda ting and how I would like to see it (so I'm glad to hear good things). It features Ms Christie's head on a spaniel and is just up my late 17th century alley. Watch out for the plague onions. *steps carefully*

I went to see the One Man Star Wars Trilogy on Sunday night. It was loads of fun and definitely worth seeing if you're a Star Wars fan and if you can catch it before he leaves the country! The guy has clearly done his homework. Full of energy, some great impressions and cheeky but amiable knocks at the films themselves. He's been doing this for 6 years now and became endorsed/sponsored by Lucasfilm after he'd done his first tour of the US. He won't be doing it much longer, however, as he's soon to be going on tour doing his One Man Lord of the Rings. Can't wait til he comes here with that. (He gave us a sneak preview of his Gandalf and Gollum. Hilarious!)

Sometimes it's worthwhile just hanging about The Pleasance and seeing what takes your fancy or picking up freebies. And there's also all the free Fringe stuff. If you have a lunchtime, go down and see Bruce Devlin at the Stand as he usually has a few acts showing a bit of their stuff.
I get to go pick up my press pass the morn and then clump around each different venue putting in my ticket requests. It would be lovely if they did them all centrally but they seem to like to make us run from piller to post.
I have the following comedy lined up:
Richard Herring
Josie Long
Storyteller's Club
Janey Godley
Stephen Grant
Justin Moorhouse
The Hamiltons (?)
Chris Cox
Miles Jupp
Fiona O'Loughlin
Ian Stone
Jim Bowen (hmm)
Scott Capurro
The Reduced Edinburgh Impro Show
John Richardson
Glenn Wool
Pappy's Fun Club
Mark Watson
Tim Minchin
Busy.

Went to see a post-Edinburgh redux version of the Clock Hour at the Albany last night with Luke and my brother. It was even better than the first time, with some extra enjoyable fluffs and corpsing. It had an added guest spot from a man doing the most spectacularly accurate impression of Brian Blessed reading from his memoirs.

This I can completely reinforce, it was a top evening of entertainment. I liked the fact that they kept cracking each other up and the guy who looks and sounds a lot like Charlie Higson.
They also directly quoted a personal ad from Readers' Wives which nearly made me lose control of bodily function.

Just came back from Bill Bailey's Tinselworm show which has finally made it to Australia. Was his first ever gig in Brisbane and he'll be pleased with it as the crowd went absolutely mental. There were more than a few dippings in and out of Part Troll which is understandable as he'd never been here before, but as expected it was a great night.

Ok, so Saturday night I went to Bill Bailey's

Went to see The Mighty Boosh live last night. It was pretty much how I expected it. Plenty of laughs and generally pretty good, however probably not as good as the first live show. I understand that their comedy style is naturally kind of freestyle and chaotic, but I felt the first show was a lot more like a proper 'show' and had a bit of a story to pull all the madness together. This show was made up much more of little bits and sketches which, although funny, I felt lacked a bit of thought and cohesion. I also didn't think there was enough of Naboo/Bollo, etc.
Despite this it was definitely worth seeing and I giggled plenty. 8/10.

Brendan Burns absolutely fantastic last night. I was worried about the content of his Edinburgh show as the reviews hadn't been stellar - but he was excellent and did more than the hour he was booked for, slotting in an interval and doing a combination of last year's material and shouting in the second half.
I don't think "There is a modicum of dog-eye fuckage, yes." will ever stop making me giggle.
Herring's show was very sweet, especially the ending, and some of the imagery was beautifully thought out and constructed.
Top night.
