I'm making a concerted effort to get through Season three this weekend. Exodus was particularly impressive for telly.

But I don't think BSG will ever grab me in the way other shows have. For a start the characters are just not very likeable, and it struck me recently that there are no 'good' bad guys! All the Cylons are irritating, smug or just plain twattish (please don't say 'that's the point') - whatever happened to the charismatic villain you root for as much as the good guys? Equally, all the good guys are either irritating, smug or just plain holier-than-thou. It's very well made, tightly plotted and intelligent...but it's hard to care.

I think the thing I found, come the end of season three, was that it was just so unrelentingly bleak.  I watched the series through in just over a week and the lack of humour did turn it into a bit of a slog come the end. 

The show is trying to be a serious drama, but I feel there are times when they take it a little too seriously for its own good.

By the way, the commentaries you can download from the official web site are worth listening to, if you are interested in knowing how and why some of the story choices were made.

I saw a preview DVD of that. It's ok, some decent action and stuff, but it doesn't really do anything to further the plot. It's a reasonably enjoyable but ultimately unnecessary addition.

All that said, I haven't lost interest in BSG yet.

This is a bit worrying: Will production resume on Galactica?

Basically the cast and crew have had a force majeur (SP?) pulled on their contracts that says that under certain circumstances the crew can be put on unpaid hiatus.

Thats what this is all about really, that due to the WGA strike, with no scripts Galactica crew and cast are sitting around absorbing cash doing nothing so the studio pulled the force majeur to save money.

The fear within the production and other TV productions in a similar situation (Galactica isn't alone in this), is that if the WGA strike goes past a certain point in time when contracts for cast and crew need to be renewed, they simply wont be because thanks to the force majeur, the studios are not obliged to pay off staff members on a production if a series is cancelled early or mid way through a contracted season.

In short the force majeur move can give studios a legitimate and cheap way of cancelling shows without the legal cobblers and staff contract buy outs that normally occur when a show is canned.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine star Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys) will be joining the ragtag fleet of Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica. In an interview with Starburst, Moore revealed that Visitor will have a recurring role as a cancer patient named Emily who meets Laura Roslin (played by Mary McDonnell) while she gets her cancer treatment. Moore states “Nana is going to be terrific for this role, and it’s great to see her again.” Visitor will actually be the second Trek Bajoran to join the Colonial Fleet, following Michelle Forbes (TNG: Ro Laren) who was most recently featured in in the BSG TV movie (and DVD) “Razor.”

That would be nice. Hers was perennially one of the better performances on DS9, or any Trek, for that matter. Sympathetic yet tough as nails. I think she'll fit in just fine on BSG.

Ohhh, gloom and doom.  The strike WILL end, folks, trust me.

I fully expect it to, but it is by no means certain that all the shows currently on hiatus will resume production thereafter, and - according to Ron Moore - Galactica is one of those that may not.

Just got a copy of Razor so gonna watch it later.

I've just noticed that Razor is on Sky One tonight, for those who can get it.

Sky Plus'd it and watched last night.  I thought it was bloody great... 

I thought it was a really interesting way to go when they brought in the link to the original series and the centurions.  "By your command"!

That was pretty much the only bit I didn't like.  Sure, it helped to give another reason for why Cain had gone off the rails as she had, but it also felt like they were using a tired old sci-fi cliché and that they were suggesting that a powerful, tough woman would have to be gay. It just didn't sit quite right with me.

I checked on the Sky guide and the one showing next week appears to be another showing of Razor. On the guide it has 'series four eps 1&2' after the summary.
