I really can't wait to see the film now! Did anyone here do the flash mob thing in Trafalgar Square on Tuesday? I did, it was brilliant!

Now that....is....BRILLIANT. Pictures, we want pictures!

Saw the film earlier. Very funny but probably more clever than it is funny. It will go over some peoples' heads but fuck 'em, that's their problem not The Gents'. If you're intelligent enough to get the gag if not the premise you'll enjoy it. If you get both then you'll be laughing...literally! Simon's bit had me giggling for ages, I'll never look at Herr Lipp in the same way again and Geoff Tipps should get his own spin-off, but then we thought that already.

Watched the review on Newsnight Late Review. Kirsty Wark loved it (I've always liked her) but Paul Morley did his 'I know about post modernism, me' bit without actually reviewing the content, PD James didn't find it funny having never seen the TV series ever and some female artist from America who's face looked like it had been slapped with a dead cat said it was awful and that it was ludicrous that the end of Royston Vasey would be viewed as the end of the world and calling it the apocolypse was going too far. No bloody idea! rolleyes.gif

The American version of The Office looks alright, though.

Stella MM
I wondered if that was the case - Briss being the name of the circumcision ceremony.
voodoolinzi
Reece and Mark have said in many interviews that they don't even know what it is themselves! To be honest, I don't think they ever knew - it's meant to be a mystery. smile.gif

I saw the film yesterday and I loved it. It wasn't as good as the programme, but I wasn't expecting it to be. My mate hated it, but I thought it was really cleverly written and well acted. Made me laugh a lot too, which helps.

Shame they didn't have Simon and Peter Kay on for longer though.

I thought it was his offspring. Or he gets the meat supplied from Tubbs and Edward's "not locals".
UNS
I saw it last night and thought it was really great.

It may be blasphemy to say here and considering the poster above me, but I thought it was better than shaun of the dead.

Blasphemy would have been saying it on the Shaun of the Dead forum biggrin.gif
Hobbes
Nom that would be unholy and sacreligious.
Sean of the Dead
Under penalty of death by wicker man!!!!
sleeping_pirate
I really loved it, but I still don't think it was as good as Shaun of the Dead. But I still love them both very much.
Twiglet
just came back from seeing it and i liked it. i agree i didnt like it as much as Shaun of the Dead but it was still very cool. i brought my sister to see it...well dragged her along and even though she hasn't seen any of the series and didnt have a clue what was going on she was laughing too smile.gif
Wife Of Rolex
Absolutely. It's a really good film but comes nowhere near Shaun Of the Dead.

Shaun Of The Dead is supreme.

Yeah there's no doubt that Shaun of the Dead is better. But I still think the Gents did a very good job with the film, and I'm definitely going to see it again sometime soon.

exactly. its nothing and everything. to say what it is is to remove the joke. thats the whole point.
sleeping_pirate
I've always interpreted it as being human meat, but it's good that they never say exactly what it is.
Sean of the Dead
It could always be raw human excrement smile.gif
Philipo
im sorry guys but i really was massively dissapointed with the movie. Maybe because I am such a massive fan of the series and ive been looking forward to this film all year. I think that because my expectation was sooooo high that i was bound to be disapointed. I really want to see the film again on the big screen hopefully i will enjoy it more on a second viewing.

Besides, he couldn't of done any damage anyway, the safety's on- BANG!
rebelstar
Finally had time to go and see this last night - oh dear. It was far more clever than it was funny, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but a comedy that produces two or three titters and no real laughs has failed, really. Most of the time, the Gents seemed to be going through the motions. They seemed bored...
fear_of_pop
Well, I don't agree at all. smile.gif
But I would like to know what is your sig from?
rebelstar
It's all about opinions, innit?

(the sig's from the wonderful Peep Show)
fear_of_pop
ah, of COURSE it is! I must get that dvd.

Gone off topic, sorry. Ooh, David Mitchell and thingy whatsit should make a film together.
Wouldn't be as good as LoG, but it'd be ace!
Jessopjessopjessop
Hmm, I saw LoGA on Friday, and was distinctly underwhelmed. It was enjoyable, but nowhere near as funny as the series at its best.

The post-modern concept they ended up with may have seemed an excellent solution to their writing problems, but in fact it comes over as self-indulgent and messy. There were fascinating moments - such as Steve Pembleton's fabulous portrayal of Herr Lipp acting as Steve Pembleton - but these were eschewed too often for toilet humour and slapstick gags. I know the original three series were full of bawdy comedy, but it was only my love for those shows that meant I humoured them for the lowest common denominator jokes - I don't know what a LOG virgin would make of it.

I loved that bit so much.

But I did love the whole film. It wasn't excellent, but I didn't go in with high expectations so I wasn't disappointed. I thought the Gents did a good job of it, but it was never going to be as good as the TV series.

Apparently, they cut out a lot of the original scenes of the gents playing themselves, as they suspected people might find it self indulgent.
But those are the very scenes I wish there had been more of!
Philipo
well i saw the film again, and i found it a lot more enjoyable this time. But looking back at the christmas special, and comparing it to the film its clear to see that they have no where near made a film to the best of there ability
