Ok I saw on IMDB that Simon Pegg was in Band of Brothers, my Dad has the box set, but I dont want to watch all 300 hours so does anyone know which episodes he is in? Bxxx
billypig
I don't want to say anything much except you should watch the whole 300 hours. It's a damn fine series. And yes he is in it but in no way is it a big part which should give it away a bit where he is.
Downsy
I'm with what Billypig says, you should watch the whole thing, an amazing series.

Although, if you're just looking for Pegg, then I think he's in the second episode.
waitingforsimon
Ah hmmm is this a cunning plan to get me to watch from the begining and get me hooked I wonder....I will watch it I htink though cos it has Simon, Tom Hanks who I love, and Donnie Wahlberg from NKOTB who was my first band I was into so for a stroll down memory lane....but really its cos I like uniforms and I really like Simon put them together and Im a very happy lady! Cheers Bxxx
Downsy
does it have Tom Hanks in it ? Are you thinking of Saving Private Ryan ?
billypig
Hmm yes, Hanks is just a director and executive producer. He's not in it.

I think Simon's in the first two episodes and very very briefly in the third. I think.
MikeP
Simon's in the first one and briefly in the second. He's not a huge character mind.

I remember seeing Simon Pegg being interviewed on Channel 4 before I discovered Spaced and wondering why they were interviewing some minor character from Band of Brothers! biggrin.gif
Still, it's amazing now - Pegg's in my favourite sitcom ever, my favourite drama ever and one of my favourite films ever. smile.gif

And I agree with what has been said before - watch Band of Brothers, it's amazing.

(Oh, by the way - hello, this is my 1st post. smile.gif )

And you'll see I'm partially right! However Hanks did have a walk on cameo as a British Officer as well. Heh.

And MikeP's right, 1st and little bit of 2nd part. I got the timing slightly confused about the split training in the first one.
waitingforsimon
Thanks everyone, Im planning on watching mr Pegg in uniform this afternoon, yummy! Ooh I love a man in uniform if it were up to me there would be some sort of law about men having to wear a uniform! If he is in the first 2 eps I probably will get hooked and end up watching it all knowing me! Cheers Bxxxx
waitingforsimon
I watched the first ep last night, and i have to say Simon Pegg in uniform yummy!!!! I think we should pass a law that he has to wear a sexy uniform at all times! In a uniform he makes me want to use and abuse him! Bxxx
cky2k
Yeah he's in the first episode and briefly in the second on the drop, and i think you see he's died at the end of the third.
waitingforsimon
Ah I thought he would die cos he isnt in Friends or used to be in an American boyband...nice American accent though must be scary infront of lots of Americans to do that Bxxxx
fried_gold
how long is it? i like war things, maybe i should get it. not 300 hours, shirley? david shwimmer's in it isn't he? can he actually do serious acting? (breast implant comedy, anyone?)
waitingforsimon
Its 782mins according to the dvd! Actually its alright I always avoid war stuff cos my dad forced me to watch it as a kid...hmm maybe thats why I have uniform fetish...anyway yeah its alright if you like war stuff its very realistic and some of the camera work makes you feel a little sick but its ok yeah Bxxx

Wow that was a long way of saying yeah watch it wasnt it?
MikeP
The majority of the cast is British (I know it's hard to believe) so I doubt it was that intimidating...

And David Schwimmer's fantastic in it, really gets the character spot on.
AusChick
A lot of shows now they have dialogue coaches and accent coaches and stuff too.

Cheers

One of the main characters in it (SSgt John Martin) was played by Dexter Fletcher. And then there's Maj. Richard D. Winters, played by Damian Lewis. Both British.

One of the best things about this series was that they were mostly playing real people. And that a few of those people were still here, being interviewed for the series.
Cracking.

Oh, and Tom Hanks' son, Colin Hanks was in at least one episode, as a green replacement officer.
rekkit
its probably been posted and is common knowledge but being new to the site i thought i would post it anyway......

have you seen tim...er i mean simon in band of brothers???

for those interested he is in the first episode and it isnt a blink and youll miss him part he has a few scenes and even has a few lines (in a dodgy american accent)

i dont like to see him play some snivveling toady to david schimmers character and he looks so different without a beard but it raises his profile and he did alright
Lazlo Woodbine
There is another link about this somewhere but i couldn't say where.
Hopefully i'm getting this for christmas as i didn't watch it on tv. Apart from David Schwimmer getting them all lost on a training excercise.
rekkit
its a great series and i would recomend the book on which it is based as well

along with spaced it is amongst the tight group of dvds i tend to watch most often

spaced probably gets watched at least once every month over the course of two nights or two weekends depending on when the little lady lets me...although she is now coming round to it which surprised me considering some of the shat she watches

i mean sunset beach for gods sake!!!!!
Lazlo Woodbine
Keep at it. Increase viewings to twice a month and she may end up with good taste. smile.gif
ally
i've found that i can get both series in a weekend if i stay up quite late. once i start watching them i can't really stop. then this is how a conversation normally goes the next day with me gf:

ME: sorry i was so late to bed last nite

GF: what were you doing?

BOTH OF US: Watching Spaced!!

GF: oh thats alrite then!!

Aww shes lovely really!
Lazlo Woodbine
Surely the simple solution would be to put a tv and dvd player in the bedroom smile.gif
ally
we've only got the one dvd player and the missus likes to fall asleep to angel or buffy videos! and also if i'm in the other room i can laugh as loud as i want to!

If you're yet to see this, the two episodes Simon appears in will be on UKTV Drama (Sky147) on Tuesday (May 3rd) at 11:55pm.

"Lieutenant Winters...with compliments, sir." *Salutes*

Ahhh, makes me gooey every time! happy.gif

What a great series this is, I've seen it all the way through three times and I think it will be time to re-visit it again soon.
Wife Of Rolex
I bought the boxset for mum and dad's anniversary last week. They haven't had a chance to watch it yet but they watched it when it was first shown and mum's raved about it since. And Dad likes WW2 stuff.

It is a great series. I remember Simon talking about it on Jonathan Ross and how during breaks he mentioned to David Schwimmer that he had a sitcom on Channel 4 straight after Friends but he wasn't very interested. Ungratful hound!!

I hate Tom Hanks. However I heard it was good, and checked it out when it aired on TV here in Canada. (With commercials. ACK!)

Running time is probably around 10 hours or so. The episodes vary in length, but they're around an hour each.

Hanks directs one episode. (Crossroads I believe.)

Most of the cast are brits.

Don't dismiss it because "Ross from Friends" is in it. When he walks on screen I thought "That's Ross!", and about two minutes later I'd totally forgotten. He plays a COMPLETE bastard, and doesn it brilliantly.

The whole show is easily one of the best of the last 20 years. Brutally realistic, and all the more absorbing because it's based entirely on true events.
claire
I watched it last night because I heard Simon was in it but I ended up really getting into it.

My mam and dad watched it when it first aired and I thought that it wouldn't be something I would be interested in but it turns out that it's absolutely brilliant.

My ex was in Band of Brothers. I flicked over randomly one night, only to see him get shot through the neck and have a slow, painful death, coughing and choking out blood.

Is he an ex that you now dispise, or an ex that you're still friends with?

If its the former, then that must have been a very satisfying scene for you to watch!!

There's loads of pictures of simon in the band of brothers here: http://www.katieandsteven.net/pegg/gallery/view.php?gid=5

Yay, am watching my DVD boxset right now! Go the Pegg!

And Tom Hanks does appear, but only as a cameo as a British officer.
R3Dl2ULZ
Simon's cameo wierds me out... my cast a Brit as an American paratrooper?
and just as wierd...why have Hanks as a British soldier?
it's all plain wierd to me.
and...

Oh Martin. Sweet Martin.
I didn't even realise Pegg had copped it until I rewatched it for the second time. It's one of the most horriffic parts of the series, with Mini-Hanks' shiteness coming a close second.
The best thing is watching out for people you recognise - last week I finally spoted Joel Beckett from The Office (I'd read he was in it but could never find him).

And now I am so intrigued about which one ipse's referring two - if it's either of the two I can remember getting shot in the neck from the top of my head, I'm impressed.
R3Dl2ULZ
i only remember Blithe getting shot in the neck...who else was there?
Jubei
How strange that this thread has popped up now, I never watched BoB but I'm just starting to watch it now on DVD, seen the first two so far. I didn't notice that it was the peggster lurking behind Sobel in that peaches scene and stuff, the only time I noticed him was shen he delivers the message to Winters when they're in britain. Also, didn't spot him in the second episode at all!

Looking forward to the next 8 hours of it though smile.gif

Character was called "Private John T. Julian", so sayeth IMDB. He wasn't a main character, but he did quite a lot of work on it. I didn't watch it but I assume he's probably wandering round in the background once or twice before he get killed.

Can't find what episode it was, but found a pic -

Any help?

ed. Apparently it was ep 6.

First ten minutes. He looks a bit queasy, then his plane gets hit, and the whole thing catches fire.

Awww "He's a fucking Virgin."
"Who?"
"The Private in my foxhole, Julian."
"The only virgin I know's the Virgin Mary"
*Cue much laughter of a raucous nature*

He makes Babe all sad sad.gif. It's quite a big part of the plotline in Bastogne (the ep 6 to which you refer). It's probably a triple tie between him, Private Miller (Shot in the head) and Private Jackson (Blows his own face off with a grenade) for saddest replacedment death.

Spoiler'd because I'm not sure how much of this Jubei would want to know.

Ta PK. I know which plane you're referring to I think, all of a sudden the inside fills with flames and everyone burned? Pretty nasty way to go...

Yeah, when we watched it the first time around I didn't realise it was him, either. Once you know to look out for it, and see it again, it's really affecting.

What happends to Pegg's character ?

Does his parachute fail to open at 10,000 feet ?
Does he get his nuts bitten off by a laplander ?

Me thinks I shall have to watch this series yet again. I love it so much.

I think he runs in, says "YES SIR!" and then you don't see him again. Spielberg was terribly generous.

Well, to be fair, Pegg wasn't known on the world stage back then. wink.gif

Feel the love.

this is true ... I just don't want anyone going through 10 episodes hoping fruitlessly for his peggness to make a grand appearance. If ONLY! Though, the series is AMAZING, and I think should be watched anyway.
