I know - stuck that one in the quotes thread straight away!
Whedon is a genius of snappy one-liners as well as fantastic dialogue. Who da man!
nixygirl
Well, despite the requests nixygirl has made a post with several spoilers so for those of you who wish to remain Serenity virgin's I'd suggest you read no further.

If you are Serenity whores on the other hand - read on . . . wink.gif

The original post continues after a break below.

-------------------

I actually did get to see the movie on Wednesday night at the sydney screening. And being a Firefly virgin never havign seen the show, I totally LOVED it!!!!
The dialogue is fast and witty with some nice speaches...awsome one liners..
"I haven't had twixt between my nether regions that didn't reqire batteries in well over a year"
"We may experience some turbulence and then the ship will explode"
too many to count....
there were some real shocks, but overall a FANTASTIC and thouroulghy enjoyable film...
I give it 8.5 only because not all the special effects and music was finished!
Go Joss, we all went out for dinner afterwards...
Joss made a normal day friggin awesoem!

Just downloaded the trailer for Serenity last night, and I must say I am very impressed - it looks especially good.
I haven't yet seen this 'Firefly' of which you all speak so highly, but I just might order the DVD now! smile.gif

I got my DVD on friday, watched the first 3 episodes so far. Must say I'm very impressed. Mal's quite nasty isn't he? When he kicked the guy in the engine I burst out laughing, and the next guy didn't argue did he? Great show, looking forward to the next 11 episodes. AND my gf quite likes it too, hence me having to slowly work through the episodes, don't think she would apreciate a 14 episode marathon wink.gif
widowspider
Slowly but surely, we convert the world to the genius that is Firefly. Glad you're enjoying it Jubei - and the reason Mal is such a great hero/leading man is that he belongs to the Han Solo school of heroes - a bit of a bastard, but we love him for it and understand his rebelliousness. And it's damn funny too.

Ade - buy it now. Right now. Do not delay, do not pass Go, do not pick up £200, go and buy Firefly! It's amazing!
Ade
Awlroight, oi well! Oi'll blummen buoy et! smile.gif

Well, Im about 2 thirds of the way through Firefly now and I'm hooked. I'm forcing my girlfriend to watch them 2 at a time now, although she doesn;t seem to be complaining despite the fact that its sci fi. Having seen the trailer for the Serenity movie though... Wow?!!? When does River go crazy? And how evil are the bllue handed people??? Why was it cancelled? It could have gone so far.

While my gf was away, I got Firefly hungry so I watched the Making off documentary, and they talk about what they could have done, like Books past and stuff. Does that mean I'll never know??? I want to know!
whixie
I can't watch the trailer. I don't know which version of quicktime the college computers have but we can't install or download anything so I can't update it. Boooo. Any way around it?
Ade
Awww, dunno what to suggest there, Whixie, sorry....

Indeed, wow! It was the trailer and gentle forum badgering that prompted my purchase... My DVD copy arrived yesterday - I started watching it last night and I was engrossed after just the first feature length episode. Watched Ep.2 as well, with more to follow this evening, huzzah!

It's ok, I managed to find a media player one. Hooray! Although I'm not sure if it looks good really. I mean, it looks good but it doesn't seem to have the series feel to it. I know it's just a trailer, but Wash's 'oh god, oh god' line was the only real thing that gave me the feeling of the series. Does that make sense?
ipse dixit
My dvd arrived yesterday - woo hoo! That's tomorrow night's plans sorted...
nixygirl
I'm getting them this week. I fell in love with Mal when I saw the movie...sigh...am still coming to terms with the fact I actualy saw the BDM!!!
and not having actually watched more than one ep made me a total virgin to the whole experience.
I can tell you it's a dman DAMN sight better than Hitchikers!!!
So funny, and dramatic, and action packed!
I'm totally luvin that I have the entire series to look forward to!
Joss has such a beautiful brain!

I am wanting that!
Ade
Ooh, comic too now? Good stuff.

Finished watching the DVD series earlier today... I've really fallen in love with it. And rather gutted it's all finished so soon. Such a shame that Fox cancelled such a brilliant show, the muppets. Itching to see 'Serenity' now. It'd be nice to think that the film might prompt a boost in DVD sales and a re-commissioning, Family Guy style.... hope springs eternal, eh?

Ah man, you finished already? I've got as far as Shindig. The 'western'ness of it all puts me in fits of giggles, I have to say - time restraints are all that's stopped me getting further as yet. I must say, though, that I have falled a little bit in love with Kaylee. She's just gorgeous - her smile makes me smile. When she got that dress...ah! So sweet. I really would.
Jubei
I've seen it all now, and I have to say my favourite episode was the last one. Jubal Early (sp?) is a truly great character. Is he the same one as in the film? I do hope so.

"Are you alliance?"
"A lion? No. But I do have a mighty roar"
"?"

And I was so happy that River seemed happy.
Ingram
Firefly is one series I really want to get into but not only am I seriously broke, until Friday, but I have so much I need to buy when I get money. I might get the boxset sometime over the summer though... give me something to do.
nixygirl
I'm blissed because they've moved the release date in Australia to 2 days before the Yanks!!!

So I've been MIA for a while on these forums, but I'm back now and I suppose it's time I weighed in briefly with my opinions on the movie. I saw it last Thursday in the second round of US screenings (yes I saw it in yankland - Portland, Oregon to be precise), and it was followed by a brief but informative Q&A session with Chris Buchanan (the executive producer of the movie). Apparently Alan Tudyk was supposed to be there too but he has recently been cast in Spamalot in New York so he had to cancel.

Well, what can I say other than WHOA! What a movie! It was hilariously funny in some places (I think everyone got some great one-liners), heartbreaking in some more, and edge-of-your-seat action-packed too (don't forget to breathe during the final 20 minutes or so). I don't want to go off into spoiler territory, but as you can tell from the trailer the story focuses a lot on River, and what she knows, and the way it's done ties in certain elements of the Firefly universe in very clever ways.

As a huge Firefly fan, I seriously loved this movie. From what I've been hearing from other non-Firefly fans who have seen it also, they loved it too, although they had some problems with getting to grips with all the characters. Which brings me to my only gripe with the BDM - because it's such a large ensemble cast, and the movie is a finite time, some characters (mainly Book, Kaylee, Inara and Wash) were relegated into the background a little (they still had their moments though smile.gif). I understand the reason for it, and really it's just me wanting more screentime for everyone.

My time here is short, so I'll finish up now and hopefully post more later (or when I get home). All in all, great movie, Firefly fan or not you'll love it. I would suggest you don't read spoilers beforehand (I did and wish I hadn't) because there's lots of things that will just be better and more surprising if you don't know them first.

It really was fantastic hey! I'm really really looking forward to seeing it in all it's glory. When I viewed it there were still many effects that were unfinished.
Was it completted when you saw it???

No, there was still a temporary music score, and some digital effects were unfinished (so they said, at least, but there was nothing really glaringly obvious in the CG scenes that detracted from it). They also still needed to scan through the film and do colour correction for all the scenes so it still looked like some lighting was a little out. But it was nothing major and apparently it'll all be done and dusted in a month or so. Yay! I really can't wait to see it again!

I just recently got firefly being a massive Buffy and Angel fan and I thought it was great! it gets depressing watching it because you get so near the end and just want more. I saw the trailer and I was blown away. just think it could have been out right now... but things can only improve if it is held back.

'Fraid I can't help you on that one, lady - you'll have to do some searching cos there's no U.S. Kelkoo site to search for ya. Looked on the U.S Play site, but it's $67.49 on there - blimey! Ouch.

I've still only watched as far as Shindig cos I've been crazybusy, but I'm loving it.

Oooh, it's only $30 on amazon.com!

Amazon.com have it for a fairly reasonable $29.99.
