For future ref, hon, DeepDiscountDVD.com is awfully cheap as well and they don't have a minimum purchase in order to get free shipping. biggrin.gif

Back to Serenity...I've got a friend going to the next "Can't Stop the Signal" screening on Thursday, which is not in LA proper but way the hell out in the Inland Empire. She's on my shit list right now. laugh.gif (Though I'm seeing Land of the Dead tomorrow...still, three days early doesn't compare to three months.)

Mehhhhh.

All these people who get to see it before me!

Why don't I live somewhere more exciting?

I'll wait for you, Kaylee. TLND wub.gif

Ooh, thanks muchly lady! I need to know all this kind of stuff as I only know the UK versions of these websites. Ta!
Damn people going to the screenings! *green*
Silky
Man I love Firefly! Can't wait for the film.
I really want a girlfrind like Kaylee. She's just so cute and happy.
Also, Jayne is fan-fookin-tastic.
My favourite line of his is when Inara has that Senator as her client and it turns out it's a woman. Jayne just goes "I'll be in my bunk."
Classic. biggrin.gif

*curtseys* You're very welcome!

And it just got worse....feckin' JOSS is going to that screening tonight. AAAAARGH. *slams head on desk*

ETA I love that Jayne line, and I adore Inara's "fuck OFF, perv" face later when she notices he's gawping over her kissing the councillor goodbye. Hee.

I think I've decided, best chain of dialogue ever:

"Anyone remember her coming at me with a butcher's knife?"
"Wacky fun..."
"You wanna go, little man?"
"Only if it's somewhere with candlelight."
"Sir, I know she can be unpredictable. I don't think she'd hurt anyone."
"Butcher's knife!"
"Not anyone we couldn't spare."

Fried. Gold. biggrin.gif
Silky
I love that bit in the Train job.
The bar fight.

"I didn't fight in no war. You have fun though."

And then he beats the hell out of like 5 guys at once. biggrin.gif

Dark Horse's Serenity adaptation ships from July 6th; granted, it's surely riddled with spoilers, so it's one for later. wink.gif

But this is cooooool; each of the 3 issues will have 3 covers of different characters by different artists:

Issue #1 features "Mal" by John Cassaday, "Inara" by J. G. Jones, and "Jayne" by Bryan Hitch.

Issue #2 features "Zoe" by Joe Quesada, "Book" by Tim Bradstreet, and "Kaylee" by Jo Chen.

Issue #3 features "River" by Joshua Middleton, "Simon" by Leinil Francis Yu and "Wash" by Sean Phillips.

Not sure if I like the the Zoe one, but it's so very Quesada. wink.gif
Silky
That looks awesome. biggrin.gif

haha.
I just had the funniest thought. Suddenly popped into my head.
This picture of Wash and Han Solo sitting around in a cantina, drinking and talking about piloting. haha.
I think Han might get pissed off at him for playing with his dinosaurs, or giving Chewie pig tails. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Good news for the UK peeps who haven't had a crack at the advance screening freight train yet; this was passed on to the Browncoats forum from a rep at UIP:

QUOTE
I've just come off a conference call with Unviersal, and our UK paid
screenings have just been greenlighted, which is good news.
Will update on venues/date (we'll probably emulate the US and do in 2 or 3
stages so that we can cover off as many cities as possible). More news to
follow soon-ish."

Hurrah! More Stateside dates, too, apparently...

No! Not comics! If somebody can name one good comic that is based on a live-action property I'll eat my big stupid hat. 'Expanded Universe' Star Wars comics don't count.

I thought that Fray by Joss Whedon was great. Although tenuous, it is linked to Buffy - as in the main character is a slayer in the future.

But is was a one off, so maybe that saved it.

I too am tempted to be at least a little anxious, whitey. But hey, I'm trying this new thing of being positive about stuff.

I'll let you know how it works out, to be honest I'm not all that hopeful for it.

This has nothing to do with Serenity the film but a lot of people seem to be rediscovering Firefly, and we've got fans, so...

Best Firefly related site on the web? Well, it's debatable, but I'm fond of the Firefly Chinese Pinyinary. Yes, that's really what they're saying, apparently. biggrin.gif

Firefly is utterly brilliant - funny, touching, great action sequences, and very sexy in places. Buy it! Buy it now! smile.gif

The series is very funny.
Jaynes line "I'll be in my bunk." is just so well performed and well timed. It's brilliant. It's one of just a thousand little lines that really make me giggle.
Has anyone watched the deleted scenes from "our Mrs Reynolds"? Were River wants to marry her brother?
Hehe
He refuses and she shoves a pillow up her top and says "You have to marry me now. I'm in the family way."

Yes. It's fantastic. But then I would say that. It's got some great characters, interesting relationships, funny Whedonesque banter, silent space, good fights (in space and on the ground). The simplest way to describe it is 'a western with spaceships'.

This issue is the first with a new editor (Dave Golder stepped down last month) so don’t blame me if it changes tack again but I'd say they have calmed down a bit on the Buffy/Angel worshiping (but that's mainly due to there being nothing new for them to write about).

Whilst they are still rooted in the Whedon camp they have recently been branching out a little with a spot of Russell T Davis (Who) and Ron Moore (Galactica) worshiping.

It's the only sci-fi magazine I buy anymore because it's generally proven to be more reliable on the news than the others (for example it doesn't tend to go in for printing internet rumors like Dreamwatch does) and it covers TV, film and print more or less in equal measure.

As a comparison TV Zone was very good when it first came out but the format got stale pretty quickly (just how many articles can you write on the Avengers etc?) and the last I saw they still hadn't updated their format.

I stopped buying The Titan Fanzine (or Dreamwatch) when they started printing their "What's wrong with . . . ." articles and commented that Bladerunner was a bad film because it as always raining huh.gif (I also didn’t like their tendency to never give a rating below five stars in their reviews section - vested interest in not hurting Forbidden Planets sales? I certainly think so . . .).

In summary, I like it - it does have the odd duff article and it does tend to jump on the band wagon occasionally but, let’s face it, it's no worse than the other magazines for that and they do have to make a living.

Tis good me thinks! smile.gif

Deep down inside, I realize that being away for months and months, only to return to gloat, is tacky, but honsetly, I didn't come back to gloat - I came back to ask about the Quatermass remake. But that's for another thread. In the meantime, the gloating...

...I saw serenity! And it was good. And keeping quiet about it (other than how good it is) is enough to kill a person.

There's been some debate about the comics - my local shop owner says that they're a lead-in to the movie, almost like the series finale we never got. If that's the case, I would recommend reading them before the movie. It's not a requirement, but I think it'll add to the experience.

OK, more gloating. The screening here in Vancouver was attended by Jewel Staite (Kaylee) and she did a Q&A at the end, which was cool. She's local. It was a local movie, for local folks.

I can pass on her anecdotes, if anyone would like. They're not spoilers, but very amusing.

OK, more gloating. Being local, she attended one of the monthly fanclub meetings. A friend was in the club and invited me along and by complete fluke, I ended up sitting next to her and her husband, chatting, all through dinner.

If anyone is humming and hawwing, stop, and go get the DVD set. It's worth it. If you're not a western fan, I've heard that some people have trouble getting past Train Job. Push through, or skip it (you won't lose the thread) - It'll be worth it. And here's hoping the UK screenings happen soon.

Yet another shining example of how idiotic it was of Fox NOT to air the (fantastic) two-hour pilot first, as intended. "The Train Job" is a decent episode considering Joss and Tim Minear wrote it in a couple of days because the network was demanding a second pilot, but yeah. Overall? Sub-par.

Thanks for the anecdotes, Castewar. :-D By all accounts, Jewel is a sweetie. Very cool.
