Raven, sir - is SFX any better than it was when I stopped reading three or four years ago? It started to piss me off because they should have changed the name to 'The Oofficial Joss Whedon Wank-Mag', and didn't.
This issue is the first with a new editor (Dave Golder stepped down last month) so don’t blame me if it changes tack again but I'd say they have calmed down a bit on the Buffy/Angel worshiping (but that's mainly due to there being nothing new for them to write about).
Whilst they are still rooted in the Whedon camp they have recently been branching out a little with a spot of Russell T Davis (Who) and Ron Moore (Galactica) worshiping.
It's the only sci-fi magazine I buy anymore because it's generally proven to be more reliable on the news than the others (for example it doesn't tend to go in for printing internet rumors like Dreamwatch does) and it covers TV, film and print more or less in equal measure.
As a comparison TV Zone was very good when it first came out but the format got stale pretty quickly (just how many articles can you write on the Avengers etc?) and the last I saw they still hadn't updated their format.
I stopped buying The Titan Fanzine (or Dreamwatch) when they started printing their "What's wrong with . . . ." articles and commented that Bladerunner was a bad film because it as always raining

(I also didn’t like their tendency to never give a rating below five stars in their reviews section - vested interest in not hurting Forbidden Planets sales? I certainly think so . . .).
In summary, I like it - it does have the odd duff article and it does tend to jump on the band wagon occasionally but, let’s face it, it's no worse than the other magazines for that and they do have to make a living.
Tis good me thinks!
