And on related matters
(I mention Sith in both cases because it was the anticipated SF adventure of 2005 which seemed to be surpassed in that area, in every respect except box office by a "little" film)

EMPIRE films of the year No. 10 (Sith 4, Sideways 1)
Bit odd this list. The write up for Serenity is basically a comparison between Whedon and JJ Abrams! The write up for Sith...well it was better than the last 2. Oh, and people's main complaint about the film was that the CGI was too much - guess they have to somehow justify the unprecedented, sycophantic coverage they gave the film over the last year!

HOTDOG films of the year No. 9
A low position perhaps - but IMO it is a magazine with good taste. I mean they put Kung Fu Hustle at No.1 and Sith nowhere. And Life Aquatic at 6..didn't even appear in Empire's 25!

Both are excellent...but I'd say an acquired taste. If you've seen Rusmore and liked it you'll be onto a winner

Empire have long had their finger far far away from the pulse. Sideways was great (if a little simplistic) but I can't see it having the longevity of Life Aquatic.

Ah! I'm not a subscriber and it doesn't hit the shelves in the shops around here until the publishing date, which I think is, err, today actually (having had a look!) . . . tongue.gif

That's odd, it's been my experience that it's out in London several days in advance of it being out down here but it wasn't in Forbidden Planet last Saturday.

Chalk one up to the vagaries of publishing I guess!

And Sith the forth best film of the year? Empire have really lost it . . . [insert nurh! emoticon] wink.gif

Fireman James and I both saw a blue-skinned mannequin and a long brown suede-esque coat at Bluewater shopping centre on Sunday. Ah, the japes.

Julie - okay, i am disturbed. But if you saw a short gingery fellow walking you with blue gloves, i dare you not to think it. wink.gif I also say 'gorram', 'shiny' and 'HI-larious' far too much. *Gasp* And i'm wearing combats. It isn't just that i want to have carnal intimacy with Jayne Cobb, i think i want to be him and i'm slowely changing. Call the shrink ...

Now that is disturbing. biggrin.gif

Ew - yess - i meant the drug but i can see how it would be misconstrued.

Holy Testicle Tuesday! I intend to say that at least once in the next few days. I may also say this:

"BUN tyen-shung duh ee-DWAY-RO."
Stupid inbred stack of meat.

So many goodies. I wonder who is the best at pronouncing the chinese on the show. I used to live with Singaporeans at Uni and Mandarin is nigh impossible to say - most difficult language EVAH! I think maybe Morena is best as the translator on the website doesn't have to put the version she said as well as the real version too. Book needs practice though.

On an unrelated note, I was taking a look at the Firefly slipcase the other night, and noticed that nice, complimentary quote from the New York Post on the back...

Now, I certainly don't disagree with the sentiment espoused, but does anyone else find it vaguely dishonest for Fox to be touting the New York Post on the packaging? After all, they're both owned by Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp...
Ingram
We are talking about the same company that tried to sue itself in the Fox News Vs. The Simpsons case aren't we? Seems like they don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to things like that.

Just saw this linked to on another forum:

QUOTE
December 1, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has heard that, although it was very disappointed in the poor box office showing for Serenity, Universal may not have retired Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his renegade crew just yet.

Sources said that, given the strong sales of the TV series Firefly on DVD, Universal is planning a sequel film to Serenity that will be produced with and to broadcast premiere on the Sci Fi Channel, which is part of the NBC Universal family.

The project is said to be a lower budget undertaking streamlined for the small-screen.

IGN FilmForce checked with Joss Whedon's camp who denied the claim; Universal did not comment.

Time will tell if this rumor pans out.

Taken from the IGN FilmForce site (I would post a link but you have to go through ad pages etc to get there).

As I understand it Fox still own the TV rights to the series so I wouldn't get too excited about the above.
nixygirl
Yea, that rumour is in the Bullshit dept. Joss' ppl have said it's not true, and so have Universal.

I'm hoping we get another thatrical release movie....and the DVD sales are gonna effect our chances of that.
So...the yanks are getting the DVDs now, the UK isn't set to release until the end of Feb??
I wonder why so late??
luvs nix
Serafina_Pekkala
Maybe Joss is rewarding the Brits for their support?

http://www.empireonline.co.uk/news/story.asp?NID=17698

Pity it only comes out in Feb - maybe this answers your question, Nixy?

OK...I have a gripe...
and here it goes!

The Ozzie one has more features than the rest of the world...
here they are

Features:
A Filmmakers Journey: Journey with Joss from script to screen
Joss Whedon Q&A Session: Filmed at Fox Studios (exclusive to Australian DVD)
Talk A Walk On Serenity: Cast and crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity ship (exclusive to Australian DVD)
The Green Clan: Expose on cinematographer Jack Green and his team (exclusive to Australian DVD)
Deleted Scenes
Outtakes
Future History: The story of Earth That Was
What's In A Firefly
Re-lighting the Firefly
Joss Whedon Introduction
Feature Commentary
Easter Egg: We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time

The US one has hardly any extras...and now they are marketing the UK one like it has extra shiny nutrients as well.

Is it Universal idea, or Home Entertainment to try and get the fans that revved up that they purchase all these R4 and R2 versions?
Especially the yanks? They get theirs first, with crap all extras...
Then comes ours (Aussie) then the UK!?!?!

It's like they're turning the fans upside down and rattling their pockets for silver!
I'm a little shat off about it to be honest!!!
(but in saying that...YAY I asked a question at that Q&A!!!!)

Welcome to the golden goose that is scifi TV show fandom. Nothing new to me seeing i liked DS9 and X-Files so i can't be upset about it anymore. It happens an awful lot. I usually wait to see which has the most extras and order it cos i have a multi-region player.

Australian Serenity cover:

Much better I think.

Edit: Also they say the rating will be permanent but they will print the cover front and back (the back will be exactly the same except without the "M") so all the Aussies have to do is flip the cover when they get it home.
