Yea they've been selling them since dec 2...even tho it isn't released yet.
Those of you who can wait should really wait for the Ozzie version...it seems to be the best so far...and if you get them from either

And when does that one come out? I'm not so sure I can wait!

I am sure region 1 will get another release a couple of months down the road, that seems to be the trend these days. The Super Dooper "Leaf on the Wind Edition"

Anything is possible, but I resent UHV domestic for giving us the shit end of the stick. So they won't be getting any of my cash. tongue.gif

I watched "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and thought I had a new favorite episode until "Jaynestown" came along. I needed that laugh so much, I cannot even begin to describe it. Plus I got my Pops into the show, so another has been converted to the faith.
maian
I lent my sister the series a few days ago and I think she's quite enjoying watching it. I managed to sell it to her by saying ''It was cancelled by Fox'', which has become our way of judging thw quality of TV shows now.

I've giving the series to my brother for Christmas. Slowly but surely, the obsession spreads...

That's not likely anytime soon unfortunately. I seem to remember Groening saying he was aiming to overtake Gunsmoke as the longest running TV show, which would leave them needing to produce another hundred or so episodes.
maian
There's also the remote possibility that they may get some funny writers again, but that would require for a fairly major movement of writers from the show and that hasn't happened to them since Season 4/5. I think I'll be very sad when the Simpsons eventually ends, but I don't think that I'll see it as being cut down in its prime.
Punkass
Finished the series last night. I am rather lucky being that I at least get to have some sort of closure for the series (Serenity). I now understand why so many were pissed that they just up an cancelled it.

Edit: Did anyone else notice the Counselor that Inara took in was "Dorothy" in Swingers? "The whole Judy Garland thing kinda turned me on. Does that make me some kind of fag?".

Wow - you're right, and I never noticed that. I knew I recognised her from somewhere, though - that's one of my favourite ever films.

I never noticed that either - good spot!

I'm working my way through the series again having got the boxset for my birthday. I'm so in love with the show all over again - need a new series! Although it wouldn't be same without Wash and Book - spoilering just in case anyone hasn't seen the movie.

I just went to a Target, 3 Blockbuster's, and finally found a copy of Serenity at Best Buy (at the bottom of a row of Full Screens). Maybe this is a good sign?

Some silly MSN article's Top 2005 Overlooked Performances:
9. Nathan Fillion, Serenity. Like Harrison Ford did three decades ago, Fillion plays a bemused, roll-with-the-punches spaceship captain. There aren't awards for such performances, but they help remind us that sci-fi and action movies can actually be good.

God - i'm not renting DVDs with this person. Although she is right on Nate, the superior tone about scifi/action films is kinda silly. I used to work in an arthouse cinema and i saw so much worthy crap, my eyes nearly fell out. Double Dragons II seems like Kubrick in comparison. Anyways - i digress ...

The similarities to Han Solo are just a little too close to the mark. Firefly is very obviously based on the Millenium Falcon.

Firefly - Falcon (beat up trade ship with little/no guns)
Han Solo - Mal Reynolds (rogue smuggler captain with a heart of gold)
Chewbacca - Zoe/Jane (one has the loyalty from the past, one has the muscle)
Luke - Wash
Leia - Inarra (princess/ambassador, captain's love interest)
Obi Wan - Shepherd (old, wise and mysterious with hidden abilities)
C3PO - Dr Simon (prim, proper, annoying, relates to Kaylee)
R2D2 - Kaylee (cheeky, helpful, double act with Simon)

Even the bad guys are more than a little bit like the Empire. The only part significantly different is River who doesnt fit the rhyme scheme and to be honest until the movie its not really important what she does.

Hmmm. Not sure I agree with all of those - particularly Luke/Wash comparison.
MagicDave
Luke/Wash is a stretch - they're blonde and pilots is all I got, I have to admit. Maybe you throw in the River having awesome power and say Luke is split between Wash and River.

I'm not saying it's a photocopy of the Star Wars setup but I think it's clear that the acorn of Firefly was planted at Mos Eisley Cantina. Mal Reynolds is a great character... but he rings more than a little familiar.
Serafina_Pekkala

I'd say it's entirely due to Nathan Fillions rogueish good looks (like Ford) and devil-may-care attitude. Joss wanted Mal to be much different.

biggrin.gif Hey - what you saying about my Jayne?

QUOTE

With respect - this is sooooo off the mark.

QUOTE
Leia - Inarra (princess/ambassador, captain's love interest)

Leia is a princess not a femme fatale with a cool heart and a mysterious past. Although she may be feisty, smart and independant, the similarity with Inara ends there

If i said Inara was like anyone, i'd say she was more like Mrs Miller as played by Julie Christie in McCabe and Mrs Miller (Joss mentions Altman and this movie more than once in the commentary) or Claudia Cardinale in Once Upon A Time in America. This is in keeping with the western theme.

Objects in Space, my friend. River is key from the beginning.

I like Star Wars but i'm not a *huge* fan (certainly not of the last three films) so all this saying that "blah de blah is nicked from Star Wars" jars with me. Lucas nicked a whole load of stuff himself.

Nicked is a strong word. I prefer 'inspired by'.

It's ok to be 'inspired by' things. As you say Lucas was 'inspired by' plenty of stories and if we are to believe the hype went back and researched the classic archetypes of great myths before he made Star Wars.

Firefly - 'inspired by' among other things, the Star Wars setup.

No?

It's one thing to say 'there are similarities' and then another to say 'Kaylee is the R2D2". biggrin.gif No need to get your coat - just i can't really see the Star Wars link other then in loose terms such as "they feature wicked empires set in space" and "the Dortmunder looks a tad like the death star".

The only real scifi 'inspiration' i saw was Aliens in terms of sets and camera work. Certainly in Bushwacked. But Joss made no secret of this.
