First I heard of this but rumour has it that Simon Pegg was up to play a part in the new Doctor Who series.
I won't say anything further about the plot details here so if you want to find out more you will have to go to
Outpost Gallifrey.
Does anyone else have any further information on this? (it's a bit of a moot point seeing as it's not going to happen but I'm interested all the same

).

In the chat thingumy on JoBlo last month Simon said that there was originally a suggestion that he would have some part in the new Dr Who series but he wasn't able to take it up because of other commitments.
Someone on that chat said they had a friend who was working on the Dr Who series and that it was really quite crap and Simon should be glad he wasn't involved.
Simon said that made him feel better.

A quick bit of editing to the topic title has been required because Mr. D has recently had word from Simon that he will be appearing in the new Doctor Who series after all.
No idea in what capacity at present, but in his own words:
"I am not playing Young Davros."
Fingers crossed for "Middle Aged Davros then"

I read today that Simon Pegg had read the script and turned down the part. If he turned down the part you know what that means... It's gonna suck.
What annoys me is that in order to continue working in the industry actors can't say how they really feel about certain scripts and things.
It's good that Mark Gatiss is doing at least one script.

In the quote it said that the episode involved Time Travel that the original show never attempted and that it was a good story.
I don't know how old the magazine was and therefore would no longer be valid.

Given how good his narration of the Radio Times program that he did a couple of years back was this could be quite entertaining!
I wonder how dissimilar the opening titles for the full program are to the logo shown for Doctor Who Confidential on Outpost Gallifrey?
Looks like they've gone back to the ole Pertwee/Baker time tunnel type opening - which would be good!

There was a special screening last night of some of the new series, which included Simon's episode The Long Game. Apparently there was a good reaction to what was shown, so the new Dr Who looks to be worth the wait.

Indeed... the end quote... "As a diehard Who fan, I will watch all the remaining episodes wishing, hopefully not totally in vain, that they had laid off the Ritalin." says it all.
What pisses me off about fellow fan boys is the fact that the BBC is not making it solely FOR THEM. There's a whole couple of generations who grew up mostly WHOless and these also need to be kept interested, or the BBC will lose ratings and the Good Doctor will disappear into E-Space once again...
Stella MM
Mar 9 2005, 04:24 PM
Exactly. So what if the special effects were 'never the point in the past'. That was out of necessity because they didn't have the budget or the technology. Why shun using cutting edge technology just to keep the fan boys happy?

Fuck 'em... They need to GET OUT OF THE PAST!!!
Probably the same idiots who slag off Battlestar Galactica 'cause it had a few more space battle scenes that DIDN'T USE STOCK FOOTAGE!
And you know if the BBC hadn't of used all the new effects and had stuck to the old ways, the fan boys would of moaned about them not using the technology avaliable to them.
Bah, it doesn't matter if this was the be all and end all of TV. It was still gonna get critised no matter what, just because of what it is and has to live up too.

Ace just annoyed me, even more so than Mel, because she was meant to act the way she did, that`s what companions do. Scream, get captured, that deal.
Ace, however, just reeked of production meetings. "Right, we need a companion with attitude, that`s what the kids want nowadays. Now, let`s forget about the Tegan thing, they weren`t ready for a gobby Aussie, and besides, she`s slagging off the show now anyway. Let`s make the new companion a teenager with a Mockney accent, who gets into all kinds of scrapes with a baseball bat!!"
Please.

I went to a mini-con with Terence Dicks and Barry Letts and they were quite proud of the effects used, mainly in the 70s I'd have to say. Apparently there was a lot of experimientation which led the FX guys going on to bigger and better things and developing their talents.
So FX were part of the point back in the heyday. Now they look dated yes, but with a 70s TV budget, you're going to do the best with what you've got. In the 21st century we can do these things better and cheaper, so why shouldn't we?

I do agree that Ace was over written, but she was still a bit cute. And I found Mel more annoying, but that is really because I CAN'T STAND BONNIE LANGFORD!
If you ignore the accent, the last decent companion the Doctor had was Peri. The last TRUELY decent companion that the Doctor had would be either Romana II or possibly Tegan... (I liked Tegan when she stopped insisting on being returned to earth to be a stewardess...)

Hmmm, Tegan`s a funny one. On one hand, I like the character, she could be funny, and feisty, without the annoyance. On the other hand, Janet Fielding has been such a nasty cow to the show since she left it, it`s hard to watch her without getting riled. It`s not as if she turns down convention cheques, considering she hated being on Doctor Who so much.
