I
knew she'd said that! But then everyone's been saying "two characters are going to die" so I presumed I'd read wrong, even though two seemed like a low number.
I feel like I'm the only Harry Potter fan who hasn't bothered with all of the wild theories flying around and has made no predictions whatsoever concerning the final book. I think it spoils it somehow, thinking too much into these things.

I really don't like to speculate either. I enjoy the books and during the last two there has been considerably more to think about in terms of wider-story but there is very little that I want to guess, it will just ruin the pay-off of the final book. That being said it's coming pretty soon and so there's that to look forward to. I recently re-read the last two books as well, just in preparation, but I finished them far too quickly and have read a couple more books since then so I think I'll come to the final book very fresh. Hopefully my internet pre-order will come on the day of release too, just because I'd hate to have spoilers ruin the fun.

I would be seeing the film tonight but my sister has promised she'll see it with friends and I don't fancy seeing it alone.
That said, I'm not looking forward to it. The only enjoyment I got out of Goblet of Fire was sitting there and ridiculing it and considering how much will have to have been left out of Order of the Phoenix I imagine I'll just sit there and nitpick it when I do see it.

I see the movies as a totally separate entity to the books. They cannot possibly try and fit in all the storyline into the films so I see them as highlights in film form.

Fair enough, but even then they sometimes bungle the best parts of the books and so they don't even work as highlights. Goblet of Fire was one such instance for me.

Another case of squirmingly embarassing situations Japanese TV shows seem intent on forcing movie stars into. First it was Johnny Depp having tiny squeaky kids sing pirate songs, now it's
Daniel Radcliffe visiting a school full of screaming Japanese girls performing amateur magic tricks. At least it's not as uncomfortable to watch as this interview with
Dakota Fanning.

I'll be cannonballing The Order of the Pheonix with Die Hard 4.0 on Saturday.
The real trick is trying to sober up enough after the first movie to avoid being kicked out by staff when you try to get into the second one.
It's a tall order, but I'm sure I can pull it off. Experiencing five hours of movies whilst tipsy (or in my case roaring drunk) is a tall order...

I watched it today ... and it was pretty good! Usually I'm not too keen on the films, but this one was great. Yeah, they missed quite a bit out and swapped some things about, but other than that it was great, and it was pretty hilarious!
I am super happy with Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) as I felt they were both fantastic in their roles. Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) had me smiling every time she came on screen, she was great too!

Just watched OotP. I enjoyed it muchly, but have posted my thoughts on another forum and thus cannot be bothered to reiterate them here (I could do a little ctrl-c, ctrl-v action, but that's even lazier).
Quickly, better acted than the previous ones, with enough left out to be not too intense for non-readers. I have a couple of Ron/Hermione gripes, but I'll air these when I can be bothered.

So I was thinking about the new book this weekend... I was thinking about things we probably won't see...
---
Malfoy embraced Ron... "You had me at hello."
Harry closed his eyes as a strange noise grew louder in the Gryffindor common room. The noise subsided and Harry opened his eyes to see a strange man grinning before him. "Hello Harry... I'm The Doctor!"
Harry advanced on Voldemort, his wand drawn... "You are soooooo my bitch!"
"Meesa your new Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher... Meesa called Jar-Jar Binks."
Voldemort loomed over Harry and in a sinister voice asked... "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your own personal savior?"
"Hello... My name is Harry Potter. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"
"Harry is just 17 and already has to kill the most evil wizard that has ever lived. Not only this, he also has to deal with a foster family, his dead mother's own sister and husband, that verbally abuse him at every opportunity. Please welcome Harry to the Jeremy Kyle Show."

Watched Harry Potter & The Order Of The Pheonix at my local fleapit last night and I have to say that I really wasn't a fan.
It suffers from the "Attack of the Clones syndrome" in that it is the mid-section of a large story where precious little happens and serves merely as a way of marking time until the climax.
Everything just seemed to annoy in Order of the Pheonix - many of the more interesting characters from previous instalments appeared fleetingly and several newer characters were given too much exposure.
The action sequences weren't patricularly thrilling and the climax, where a certain character is killed off is not given the necessary gravitis that such a character warranted.
And another thing, it would be wise for Warner to shoot The Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows back-to-back, as most of the cast are already starting to look a bit too old to still be going to school...
I suppose my enjoyment of the movie was compromised by the fact that sitting right next to me was a quartet of teenage girls, who nattered incessantly throughout the movie - I was too polite (I was also very drunk, ingesting ale and whiskey during the movie) to resort to my usually tactic of telling noisy moviegoers to "shut the fuck up"...

do not post any spoilers - even in spoiler tags - to this thread.
The dedicated thread will contain plenty of spoilers that will not be hidden behind spoiler tags, so I suggest you avoid it until you've finished the book.

The thing is, they are queuing outside the Waterstones in Picadilly which is the biggest book store in Europe, and that they've had 14,000 copies ordered for tomorrow (i know this because the other half works for Waterstones), so it's not like they wil miss out.

Maybe the queue is fun, I've no real opinion to back that up because I've never been part of one, but perhaps it's the queuing and chatting that is the main motivation rather than getting the book 14 minutes quicker than you would have from Amazon (perhaps not with the first few books, but they may have little groups of people they go with by now).

Speaking of spoilers, I started reading the NY times online review, then I got a bit worried about a third of the way through that the next sentence would say something like "Dumbledore comes back but he's a ghost like Ben Kenobi," or "Neville ends up being the real hero and everyone forgets who Harry is."
