Sin City trailer

I still don't think the white silhouettes are working but that's a minor complaint. This looks mint.
Deaths Head
They work. This whole film looks like it works. This whole film looks, quite frank(Miller)ly beautiful.

Word. I can't wait to see this movie
Kick in the Head
Being a complete Sin City newcomer, as in haven't read the comics or know anything about them, I am still very much looking forward to this film. The whole look of the film is amazing and it will just be nice to go see a film starring Bruce Willis at the cinema again - although its got plenty of other people in it too (didn't Elijah Wood freak you out in the trailer - scary-darey!).
whitey
A much larger version of the trailer is now online, and a proper site is up also.
widowspider
fuck me, that looks amazing. when's it out?
whitey
Not nearly soon enough. April, I think.
widowspider
woohoo! looks like spring is going to be a cinema-going time for me then.
Ade
That does indeed look impressive - can't beat a bit of moody black n' white.

So did I! Looks brilliant. You weren't in Staines cinema by any chance were you? I saw Batman Begins trailer too last night!

Afraid not. I was in a cinema in Glasgow half the day yesterday. Saw three films and about 15 trailers. I didn't see a single trailer twice, but the ones I can remember are Sin City, Batman Begins and RotS. Those and yet another reason to destroy Jennifer Lopez.

Shy actress Jessica Alba was so terrified about stripping off for revealing scenes in new comic book adaptation Sin City she got drunk and visited strip clubs to prepare. The sexy Dark Angel star was supposed to strip completely in select sequences but insisted on peeling off to a revealing bikini instead. But Alba did promise director Robert Rodriguez she'd pull off the dance routines despite her shyness - and her no-nudity clause. She says, "I'm not someone who likes to go onstage and be a star. So, I just went to a bunch of strip clubs to do research. I would have to get a little tipsy, though, because it's kind of intimidating talking to these women with incredible bodies who are writhing in front of you. I hit about four strip clubs in LA, two in New York, and two in Texas." And Alba decided to add a lasso to her stripping routine in the film after teaming with a rope trick expert. She adds, "I had a rope guy teach me how to twist it around like a lasso and stuff. I just spent every night in Texas in The Four Seasons (hotel) in my underwear, knocking over lamps trying to lasso things."

I must see this film. Either that or get a video of her hotel room antics. tongue.gif

There's a good interview with Rodriguez over on Superhero Hype. This is quickly shaping up to be either my favourite film of the year or a crushing disappointment.

And yet more linkage. Yahoo Movies have an 11 minute BTS fluff piece here (contains a few spoilers if you want to go in cold):

Standard stick-it-on-the-DVD soundbite fare but good to see spooky old Miller so pleased with the project.

The guy needs to brush up on his written English skills. And calm down.
Also as with all Knowles reviews, this one contains a few spoilers. Beware.

I re-read all the Sin City books this week and they just get better every time. Recommended to all comics fans.

Unsurprisingly, Titan have taken the Sin City graphic novels off the shelves so than can republish them closer to the film release. I hadn't read them in years, and I could only track down A Dame To Kill For, The Big Fat Kill and That Yellow Bastard here in Glasgow. Forbidden Planet had imported them. They are getting republished in the UK in about a month.

Well, fuck me swimming, this looks awesome! I'm also of the naive variety and don't know much about anything to do with this but I'd heard enough about it to be interested and now I can say they'll definitely be taking my moula at the box office. S-weet.
Ingram
I recently got the chance to see the trailer for this on the big screen. I can honestly say it looks fantastic! The way the trailer was set out makes me think that it is going to be one of the truest films to their original comic book format.
Sostie
Question for those that have read Sin City.

I've read a lot of Miller but not Sin City (like saying I've seen loads of Spielberg films but not seen Jaws). I noticed in the trailer that there is a scene where a character runs towards a speeding car and jumps feet first through the windscreen. Now I remember seeing such a sequence in Miller's Elektra Assassin and thinking "that would look great in a film".

So I was just wondering, does such a sequence also appear in the Sin City comic, or have they decided to use a cool scene from another Miller comic, because its unlikely to be used in Elektra.
whitey
It's straight from the comic. It's from the original book (they've given it a subtitle now but I don't know what it is, it's always just been Sin City to me).

Ingram
After seeing the film I think it was probably in Sin City originally because it flows quite well - by that I mean it was relevant for the character to do it. But you never know, Im sure someone will explain it though.

Edit: Good job whitey!
Sostie
Thanks guys.
Omniscia
Well, I saw this one last Friday at the little single-screen cinema here in town; it was the $2 midnight movie. And while I must admit that I have yet to read the graphic novels, this film is perhaps the best comic adaptation in terms of pure style that I've ever seen. It feels like the pages have come to life, rather than simply provided inspiration for the usual live-action comic fare. The shadows in particular are superb.

That said, it is quite profane, ridiculously violent, disturbing, sadistic, and absolutely amazing.

Though Willis and Alba certainly fill their roles well, the two stand-out performances, in my view, are those of Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen. Elijah Wood is also particularly effective, and will make you forget you've ever heard the name Frodo Baggins.

In conclusion, though I am by no means suggesting it's anything like Kill Bill, I am uncertain as to whether I would recommend this to those who disliked that one. Certainly, it's a different film altogether, but the excessive, cartoonish violence, and the overriding emphasis of style over anything more substantial than can be represented as a flat, 2D image, make me hesitant to do so.

Don't go if you're looking for anything particularly deep. But if you have any appreciation at all for visual innovation, dark, grimey, seedy goings-on, and square-jawed, hard-boiled men of action, this is not one to pass up.
whitey
The deal with the comics is that the style is the substance. They're ultra-violent hard as nails pulp stories combined with the spectacular action which made Miller's name and they have no aspirations beyond that. Simple but always exhilarating. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mickey Rourke bringing Marv to life. Miller never managed to come up with a better character in the comics, his brutish simplicity really defined the books.
Ingram
The film is brilliant, I can honestly say it's the best comic book film I've seen simply for the aesthetics. Straight out of the Miller novels.

I was doing a Google search the other day for the film, and foolishly clicked on the first link in the list... only to have my innocent little eyes and mind accosted with some down-right dirty, porn filth. ohmy.gif

Sin City. That title has been used too many times. I was wary when I downloaded it, luckily it was legit and not porn. Hooray. tongue.gif

It's good but shallow.

I know I have seen this already but the trailer really excited me when I went to see Star Wars, I still reckon this is going to be one of the top films of the year. Plus the music was awesome: The Servant - Cells. Only the instrumental though... the lyrics are a little... crap.

I'm always i little wary about comic book movies, as i have always been disaponted in the past, and when sin city came out i had mixed feelings. Because i loved the comic so much i was excited about a film comic out so top up my wanting for more miller yet reallt worried in case they mess it up and ruin the comic series. But after i saw the comitment Rodregez was putting into the film i started to swing more to the over exicted school child mode. i think the casting is very good and i was surprised at how well the cgi backgrounds work in convaying millers art to the screen, keep up the good work Rob

Well i've just found out i've got tickets to the premier this monday. My god it is going to rock!
