Sure, why not? It seems like a great movie with or without him!
SpaceSickPip
Yeah I would, its a great film anyways, it is a bonus that Simon and Nick are in it though biggrin.gif wub.gif

Just gotta ask are you gay or is it just a Simon focussed obsession.

Obviously you don't have to answer if that's too personal.

Just wondering, coz I noticed you've already started two threads about how wonderful Si is, not wrong of course. Blah blah blah, sorry I'm a bit pissed now.

So there you go. That's my question to you. Answer if you wish or don't tongue.gif

[pedantic mode]Thing is, if Simon wasn't in it (or written it) then it wouldn't be the same film. If someone wrote it instead of Simon then it would be up for debate on whether it was to be funny or not according to whoever was in it... if Simon still wrote it but wasn't in it then that would depend who would pull off his and Edgar's humour as well as Simon and Nick.. [/pedantic mode]

Obviously if Simon wasn't in it, it would be complete and utter bollocks, no?

Or more to the point would anyone offer up their body for free for endless cold days and nights to stagger around soaked in fake wet cold blood for anyone other than Simon Pegg? Pah! I think not...

I don't think it would be complete bollocks, but if Simon wasn't in it then it wouldn't be the same film (as you said in the earlier part of your post which I viciously chopped off. wink.gif) It certainly wouldn't have given me the slightly embarrassing yet warm feeling of pride I had when I first saw it at the cinema.

That wasn't pride, it was pee-pee!

(OK I'm not sure where that came from, but it popped into my head...)
Stella MM
There was no pee-pee! (Well, perhaps a little bit when Nick did his Clyde impression...)

I think he and Nick certainly add something special, it's a funny film but spotting the subtle threads from Spaced, "he's not my boyfriend" etc add an extra dimension that you would miss if not familiar with it. And he is GORGEOUS of course, completely edible in that fat quiz thing last week!

widowspider
hurrah! another simon-adorer! you have come to the right place my friend.
apparently they kept forgetting about jokes they had done on spaced, like the 'he's not my boyfriend' one and then wondered why it seemed so familiar when they filmed it. laugh.gif

I thought I heard him say that too, I was going to watch it again to see if I had dreamt it !
Godfella
well you can never know if it would still be good, because simon wrote it, it makes it what the movie is, funny and witty, but if simon wasnt acting as shaun I dont know if it would still be good, maybe from the rest of the cast it could still hold as good but if the lead character isnt a top comedic actor like simon then it might not hold up as well smile.gif .
Cricket
When I first heard of SotD I didn't even know about "Spaced" or Simon or Edgar. I just thought it might be a really cool movie and from that day on I wanted to see it!
waitingforsimon
I must be honest and say that if Simon was not in this I woulddnt have seen it. I am easily scared and do not watch any scary films I would have (as I did anyway) assumed it would be a scary Zombie film (it is in places) and avoided it. I love SOTD now, but no I do not watch horrors and so no I wouldnt have seen it. Bxxx
Kylock
cool. where did you get that picture taken
Funtuppet
Back to the topic at hand...

I never heard of Simon Pegg when I first saw it but by the end of it I was positive that nobody else could have done it better. He is the glue that holds the whole thing together! Sure, it would still be funny because the writing is great etc. But he really adds something special to it. I can't figure what it is, but nobody else could be Shaun.
vixta
well, sotd could have had anyone in the title role to make it a good film. obviously the parts were written for simon and nick, but it's testament to the writing that someone else could have played the part. not as well, but sufficiently.

i'm not sure that i would have gone to the cinema to see it though - after all, i didn't bother with the dawn of the dead remake until it came out on vid. to be honest, i wish i hadn't bothered at all (cardinal rule of zombie flicks - you die, you come back as a zombie. it doesn't matter if it's by bite or gunshot or 16 ton weight) because it sucked massive logs. and i got really fed up of the supafast zombies and they 'we're so damn clever to have thought of it' attitude, because 'Versus' did that ages ago and made a far better job of it.

and one day i will post and not rant...
shazam
i dont think the film would be worse with out pegg, jus not the same thats all,if it were directed by someone else, with diffrent cast god knows what it would be like. without spaced shaun wouldnt be here
Julie
I can honestly say I would have. I can say this because when the movie first came out in theatres I thought "wow, that looks really funny, I should see it" And shortly thereafter I was turned on to Spaced. Thereafter yet again I was working one day, racking the SOTD DVDs and literally, out loud, went "Holy Crap, thats Simon Pegg!!" and bought it with the money I had brought for dinner...
Although I agree with the several previous postings that sans Pegg, there's no way it would be the same movie. Sans Pegg obsession, Im sure it would have been quite funny on it's own. But knowing all the amusing little props for Spaced they threw in made it much funnier, in my opinion.
Theres my two cents.
Sean of the Dead
Yes, but it wouldn't have been as good, just like if they didn't have Nick in it.

To be honest, when I first heard of Shaun, I thought it sounded amazing and just wanted to watch it because it sounded hilarious. I'd heard of Simon before this, but I didn't really know of his work. Then BANG!!! When he slid over the car bonnet to save Phillip from a zombie, he had me wub.gif then i wanted to find out about everything he had been in and when I listened to the commentry, I heard of Spaced. Then I got hooked on that.

But to answer the question, I can't imagine Shaun Of The Dead without Simon.

Love Claire xxx
