I cant either, thats how much of a great film it is, and you can watch it over and over and over and over (you get my point

) again and just not get bored of it and this is the first film that has ever been like that for me.

Lol, I think its great how it builds up, specially when Shaun has a hangover and he walks to the shop-he dosnt seem to have a clue that all the people he walks past are zombies, class.

For me the
only slightly dull bit was the conversation with Shaun & Liz on the bed.
Other than that... It's all good.

The pool cue/Queen interface goes on waaaay too long. It's very funny for the first 30 seconds but gets a bit laboured after that. And whenever I think about it I get Don't Stop Me Now in my head for weeks.

I thought that was one of the best bit about the film. The build up was great instead of just throwing them in the deep end or having some cheap way of introducing the zombies.
The only thing that I didn't like that much is the argument between Shaun, David, Ed, and Diane in the pub, just before shaun kills his mum.

Think that the whole argument is a bit long needed to be a bit shorter but apart from that one of my favourite films.

I do like the scene, but the thing that irritates me about it is that they are clearly trying not to hit him on the head. When that's the only thing that would do any good!

Ha! Yes, that's what grates about it. I love all the bits with David flicking the switches in time to the music because it's still slightly realistic but the choreographed stick hitting just looks too... choreographed. I know that's a ridiculous criticism given that it's
meant to be like that but it still jars. The film's so well made I can easily believe that London could be overrun by flesh-eating zombies - I just can't believe three people could spend their precious remaining minutes ineffectually beating a zombie to death to a rhythm.
Blaaaaahy 'ell, kittens. I really need to get out more.

It's called the Zomb-O-Meter on the American DVD...
On the dvd, under the subtitle section, you can select this and it will tell you what a certain reference is in the film.

While I'm sure even the creators of the movie don't think its perfect, I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with it. Some people have mentioned a few things I'd like to comment on...
1. The Shaun/Liz scene in the bedroom- I liked this part! I think its funny. Well, I think the expressions on Shaun's face are funny when she reads the card on the flowers... go through the movie and watch Pegg's facial expressions, they are hilarious. Anyway, I thought the part was a well done touching part that summed up where their relationship was...you've got to have this or it won't be a romzomcom... it will just be a zomcom. Maybe what intrigues me about this scene is that I'm american and i had to watch it like five times to figure out what Liz says b/c she speaks so fast. HAHA. (not joking)
2. The scene in the bar where they square off against dave. A lot of people complain that the movie gets too serious there... well the humor is there its just downtoned a bit. Its much more witty and dry at that point. You can't have too many gags when someone just had to off their mother. If you watch the commentary they say that test audiences thought it was too silly given the circumstances, so they took some jokes out. I agree with their decision. I have never seen a movie like this where you can at one moment be cracking jokes, and the very next have really touching and heavy scenes (phil dying, killing mom) with really good acting. Its not easy for actors to get to that emotional pitch and pull off crying and things like that. But they pull it off awesome here.
Like I've told my friends, if i would have gone into film and made a movie, Shaun of the Dead would have been it.

I remember reading/hearing somewhere (possibly Commentary 1) that they used the same joke twice cause they'd forgotten they'd already used it in spaced.

After my first viewing I was a bit shocked by how sark it got - but it's a grower, I think my problem was that I came into expecting Spaced: the movie a bit, and in retrospect it's actually fairly dark from the beginning. I'm gladd it wasn't all played for laughs. I cared about the characters too mcuh to have death scenes made into jokes.
But a couple of gags did go over my head/fall a bit flat. Liz's 'there's nothing ever on TV, is there?' made me cringe slightly. And the 'I'm not a performing monkey' thing was slightly lame, and another of Ed's- although these were two tiny examples in an otherwise consistantly hilarious - and otherwise brilliant - film.

The ending was a bit a let down in my opinion. The film had been really funny all the way through and then suddenly it goes all serious at the end. I didn't matter so much at first but now that I've rewatched it so many times I often find that I stop the film after they try to defend themselves with the gun.

I still think the ending was fine. Everyone always says that its too serious. But HEY you got to resolve it. It DOES have lots of humor still... its just much more sublime. You can't have people's mother's dying and best friends dying and be cracking gags all over the place!

Jan 27 2005, 02:16 PM
Absolutely not. There was no boring or bad part in it. It was perfect.
Well about the whole face off with the gun before they shoot the mum,
on the commentary Dylan mentions and Simon agrees that he thinks its funny because its like a parody of the dramatic exposition, but I'm not sure that quite came across to a lot of people, and I guess that even though it seems to work on 2 levels its a bit of a weakness because people aren't sure how to feel.
I personally think the fart gag sucks.
as for the complaint about people hitting in time with the music, I don't see the problem, personally whenever I walk into an HMV or anyplace with music I can help walking in time to the beat of the music, in fact if you ever try deliberatley dancing out of time its actually very hard.

- the ending was serious because the sotd is, contrary to popular opinion, not a spoof film. it's still an effective horror film, but with a (very large) comic streak. The seriousness and sombre...ness was brought at the end probably to shock the audience as many horror films try to, and it really emphasised the panic and distress of that time...i think....

Though I would still like to see Simon as Michael Caine as Han Solo in
