Full Version: Your top 10 All-time Films
Spaced Out Forum > Media > Media

What are your top-ten all time favorite films. I actually made a list out of my fave movies and ranked them. (yes... waaaay too much free time). My criteria included overall production (writing, cinematography, editing, etc), exection of the film based off its general budget, and replayability... it had to be something I watch over and over and never get tired.

So here's my top ten movies of all time:

10. Aladdin
9. Equilibrium
8. Napoleon Dynamite
7. Terminator 1, 2
6. Evil Dead 1,2/ Army of Darkness
5. Star Wars trilogy
4. Shaun of the Dead
3. Gladiator
2. Braveheart
1. Lord of the Rings trilogy

Other movies that were close but didn't make the cut included: Interview with the Vampire, the Usual Suspects, Boondock Saints, Kill Bill, The Crow, and Saving Private Ryan.

9. Equilibrium

Saints be praised, yet another Equilibrium fan! biggrin.gif
It narks me off when films get poor press because they cannot be considered high art, but for pure giggly fun and truly stunning action, Equilibrium is the 21st Century answer to Commando - which would definitely make my Top 10 anyway...

Equilibrium just missed making it into the top 10!
Starscream`s Ghost
10. Shaun of the Dead
9. Goodfellas
8. Spirited Away
7. The Italian Job
6. Spider-Man 2
5. X-Men
4. Equilibrium
3. LOTR: Two Towers
2. The Empire Strikes Back
1. Transformers: The Movie

Not exactly high art, any of them, but I watch a film primarily to be entertained, and so my top ten reflect that. Obviously there`s artier films that I love, and all of Woody Allen`s stuff, but I have t be in the right mood to watch them, my top ten can be watched anytime, hence, they`re my faves.

I didn't know it got poor press. I didn't really pay attention to the press. From a filmmaking point of view, it does have some sillyness sure, but there is actually some really beautiful stuff in it, some really good cinematography. Its one of those movies i watch and go "wow, that's a beautiful shot". If i were to give an award to the most beautifully filmed movie... it would go to Hero. EVERY scene in the movie is like living artwork.

Ok... you got me. That's more than 10. Some of them i count as a "series" and can't be disconnected tho. Like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Star Wars trilogy. They're all one story. Hard to judge them as separate movies i say. well... i didn't include the new star wars cuz they kinda suck. The evil dead movies i look at as a series i guess... and i was just tied with term. 1 and 2... i like em equally so i couldn't put just one there. term. 3 wasn't that good tho.

Ah, but it's released five weeks earlier on Play (one of them's wrong), and there's no P & P.

I'm sure we did this recently .. or maybe I dreamt it...

I can never decide which order to put them in so I will just list them although I have so many faves it will be hard to pic 10. Most of mine are also throw away films which I like just because I do and they are comforting so don't laff.

The Outsiders
The Lost Boys
Stand By Me
Carrie
The Wicker Man
Mary Poppins
Theatre Of Blood
The Shawshank Redemption
Never Been Kissed (see what I mean?)
Bugsy Malone

OOo I'm already thinking of more, I didn't even get The Goonies in.. I shall leave now before I get annoyed and change the list or even think of more films....
Justincredible
ahhh... a forum that breeds pure honesty with self and confession before others.

Hey I'll admit, I like moulin rouge too... what frenetic editing that movie had, and great art direction. i think i own west side story too.
A lot of peeps are putting Goonies on their lists... nice. I'd give it an honorary mention.

But sadly, A Clockwork Orange and Lost In Translation would have to fall in my top ten worst movies I've ever seen.
toneloc
Yess!! Someone else who hates A Clockwork Orange!!

My top 10 - apart from LOTR, i can't really separate the rest..

1. Lord of the rings trilogy (well, they kinda are 1 movie)
2. Braveheart
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. Jerry MAguire
5. Fight Club
6. Pulp Fiction
7. American Beauty
8. Shaun of the Dead
9. American Splendor
10. Breakfast at Tiffany's

and honorable mentions to
-Kill Bill, Moulin Rouge, Reservoir Dogs, The Matrix, Sexy Beast, The 25th Hour, Punch-Drunk Love and dozens of others that i can't think of!!

I don't *hate* it, but I'm not overly-fond. The first time I saw it I thought it was really cool and funny and quite bizarre, the second time I was genuinely confused why I'd thought that the first time and just found it a bit dated and hyped. Since then...I just turn over the channel.

As for fave films, I generally try to avoid such questions as they make my head hurt and bring my soul into quandry. But on this day at this time, here's what I'm thinking...
(in no particular order)

Fight Club
A Room for Romeo Brass
LotR (three for one tongue.gif )
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
True Romance
The Sweet Hereafter
Amelie
Ring
Donnie Darko
The Big Lebowski
Brazil

But, if you're talking sheer number of times I've seen them, the clear winners would have to be two classics from my early teenage days...Dazed and Confused and Empire Records.

They make me happy.
