Does the UK get the tv show LOST? I'm a huge fan. Here's the posting board for this show. There can be a billion things to discuss... mainly because the show keeps bringing up more durn questions than answers!

For example, what the heck do you think that big... thing... is in the forest thats munching on people?

What do you think Locke knows about the island?

What was the deal with the french scientist lady who killed her whole team? What were THEY doing there?

Why are there polar bears?

I mean what in the overall zues's booty is going on here?

LOST!!

I love the show.

So great! If anyone in the UK is familiar with torrents, you must watch this show!

Tonight's episode was sooo good.

Hurley is the best. PEE ON MY FOOT! PEE ON IT!
Jubei
I might have to check that out, although I don't believe its aired here at all. PM me a clue where I can find it..? huh.gif biggrin.gif
JonnnnnieB
I only watched cause it's directed by JJ Abrams and i think it's excellent, but did find the first few episodes a little slow but it's really got going now. I do still prefer alias.

It's not on british TV yet, although I believe it is coming to E4 this year,
ronlogan1977
Is this the show where they dump some random strangers in an unknown location (eg Sakhalin island) and they have to work out how to get home?
widowspider
haven't heard of it, but i was ASM on a musical called Lost that was in the NYC Fringe in 2003...about two kids who get lost in the woods around the great smoky mountains and meet hoodoos and witches. it was loosely based on hansel and gretel, but much weirder and cooler.

*back on topic...we'll have to keep an eye out for when it comes over to the UK.
J.R
Supposed to be on E4 late January I heard.

I have been downloading episodes ( yeah bad I know). and so far it's been fantastic. Everything from Plot to characters is well thought out and well acted.
Justincredible
OH MY GOSH! AHAHAH Pee on my foot pee on my foot. Hurley is the man.

Ummm ok well a little explaining to our british friends about the show and why they need to get it. "LOST" is a HUGE hit here, even though it has a very "indie" feel for a show.

Basically, its about a band of people who were on a plane that crashed on some mysterious island. They are THOUSANDS of miles off course of where they should have been. The whole plane crew is dead. They have no hope of being rescued.

Now, sounds like a regular survival type show right? Well that's where the really awesome storytelling comes in. Turns out there's something up with the island. Every episode things get weirder and weirder, and little bits of info get revealed.

First, the characters. Every episode goes a bit into the background of one of the main characters to show you what they were like before getting on the fated plane. And all of them have something weird. For example, last night we learned that two people who said they were brother and sister this whole time are really step-brother and sister and in love with one another. DO WHAT?? The cast is so interesting... there's a doctor who has halucinated in seeing his dead father on the island, there main girl hero turned out to be a bank robber/murderer, a korean woman who can speak english but only two people know (her korean husband doesn't even know) and a bassist for a band who was a heroin addict, now cured. There is also a pregnant girl, but she was recently kidnapped by someone who was NOT on the plane to begin with but has been living with them the whole time. We still don't know what happened to them come to think of it...

Then the island. First of all, there was a polar bear that came out of the jungle. Then they found a radio transmission that had been running for sixteen years by this french woman. Then they FOUND the french woman who told them she was there with an entire team, whom she killed off. (she then disappeared back into the jungle). There's a HUGE... thing... thats in the woods that kills people. And they've found some mysterious trap door buried in the jungle floor that leads somewhere, but they can't get it open. Locke seems key because he is the only one who has seen the...creature... and lived, and he knows the secret of the island it seems.

So it just gets addicting and you get hooked. Ultimately tho, every episode leaves you with more questions than answers... which makes it all the more fun to watch. Definitely the most interesting show on tv.

That is a very good synopsis so far.

Here's the official website:

JonnnnnieB
That should have come with a spoiler warning for brits who haven't been naughty downloaded it.

Just finished watching wednesdays episode. Locke really suprised me this week, although all the characters do have dark sides

I really like way it's structured, with a retrospective on one character in each episode as well as driving the story. JJ Abrams like Edgar Wright has his own really distintive creative style thats a pleasure to watch.
frostitute
Yeah, a spoiler would have been nice.

HEY MODERATORS ADD SPOILER TAGS TO THAT. tongue.gif

Or heck, just delete that post!

OOohhh! I keep hearing about this show and I'm getting really impatient over here! Late January is what I've heard too, as JR said, but I've not seen any trailers or anything on tv yet.

There's a single clip of it on the loop shown on the topuptvsampler channel on freeview. An excellent series though. Been looking around online and can't find an TX dates for lost in the UK, I doubt they will start broadcasting until the series has finished in america, so probably another couple of months.

LOST is great. Got episodes 11-13 to watch this weekend.

As for UK TX dates I think I read somewhere that E4 had it scheduled for June!!!!
Justincredible
Yeah, its' the no.3-6 show in america (depending on the week) so I'm SURE its going to come there soon. Naughty naughty downloading the episodes, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I think the only downside of the show is that if you miss a week, you miss a lot, b/c you'll usually learn all about one character and you'll miss some new revelation on the island.

Did you see next week's preview? Looks like the polar bears return!
Justincredible
ooooooook, so i confess, i was on the phone with my girlfriend and missed most of the episode. I DID catch a polar bear trying to eat the kid, the dad rescues him, and the fact that the kid may have some sort of supernatural weird ability. And the cliffhanger at the end was nice... is it just me or did it look like she wasn't pregnant anymore?

Hey, next time mark your posts with spoiler tags!

She is. So far she's only been in one episode, but her character is roaming 'round that island somewhere so I'm sure she'll be back.
JonnnnnieB
There's a interview with Terry O'Quinn (aka Locke, or Kendall in Alias) in the Feb issue of SFX, and it says Lost is coming to E4/C4 in July. I guess they will probably play it a week ahead on E4 like they do with a lot of their imports.
Justincredible
not sure who that mira chick is. But i'm ticked that its REPEATS AGAIN!!! New episode needed! (freakin american idol is back, same time slot... so i guess they didn't want the competition this week)

Just found this for people in the UK:

QUOTE
Channel 4 is gearing up to launch a huge marketing campaign for new US drama Lost.

The cult show, which follows a group of survivors after their plane crashes on a mysterious island, has been a ratings success in the States, where it draws more than 16 million viewers each week.

C4 originally planned to air the series in the UK from January, but then decided to postpone transmission until the summer following the success of another new US drama, Desperate Housewives. The network was also keen to hold back in order to get the cast involved in the promotional campaign, which was shot on location in Hawaii last week.

Describing the show as "very important" for Channel 4, a spokeswoman told Digital Spy: "Everyone will know about it once the campaign starts."

Lost is now due to air from "early August" in a primetime slot; most likely the current Wednesday, 10pm slot occupied by Desperate Housewives.

I kept seeing ads for this in the States, and it really confused me as the musical I worked on in 2003 in NYC was called Lost. I kept wondering if they'd sold the rights and hadn't told me wacko.gif
frostitute
LOST freakin' rocks. You people should tune in!

There's a new episode airing next week here in the states, with the finale looming ahead.
feckless_dykey_prostitute
the advert for it has just come onto Channel 4. it only says "coming soon" so it shouldn't be long before we see it in the UK!!

The trailer is beautiful, if the show lives up to it I expect to be hooked. Stunning use of 'Numb' by Portishead and a great cast from the looks of it. Colour me excited.

"Channel 4 has finally set a date for the premiere of Lost in the UK.

The cult show, which has already wrapped its first season in the States, will occupy the Desperate Housewives timeslot - Wednesdays at 10pm - from August 10.

Also akin to Desperate Housewives, new episodes of Lost will premiere on E4 immediately after the Channel 4 episode ends."

frostitute
LOST is filled with many "flashback" episodes, the first season is basically to give you an idea as to who the characters are.

Trust me, stick with it, you will not be disappointed. And don't go expecting that you're going to get answers to questions just handed to you.

Mu-tha -fu-cker. I wait over a year for the bastards to start showing this, and they start it on the day I leave the country. They've done it deliberately, I know it, just to spite me. Curses.

Having only seen the trailers and the posters and hearing from people "it's meant to be dead good", I'm now officially excited. There's not much I watch regularly week by week, so this might fill the void.

The trailers on Channel 4 are fantastic - were they shown in the US or were they commissioned by C4? I have already seen the first season and know what the show is about, so I wonder how they are going to grab the general public - have already had a few people at work saying they seen the trailers and it looks great.

This may be a bit arsey, but I noticed that what goes on in the trailer, is like some kind of dance interpretation of the relationships/alliances throughout the show.

And why does the poster campaign feature every single major character except the Japanese couple?

They were made especially for C4 and were never shown in the states. I believe they were made as the cast filmed series 2 (different haircuts so I've heard).

Someone told me they were made by Chris Cunningham, but I've just had a search and can find no evidence for this so it seems unlikely.

Interesting. Jin and Sun are, quite possibly, my favorite relationship/backstory/whole enchilada on the show, and both are phenomenal actors. (Nice to see the ubiquitous Daniel Dae Kim getting a regular gig with a full-season arc for a change. biggrin.gif )

They're Korean, BTW...

I know...and I'm ashamed that I got it wrong. The stupid thing is I had a big argument with a friend after he insisted they were Japanese and I said they were Korean, and now realise I typed that.

Jin and Sun were probably my fave backstory too...not the most interesting with regard to revelations, but because its the only established relationship (with I suppose the exception of Shannon & Boone) that is put under pressure on the island, and they are also "outsiders" within the group itself. Oh, and because
Yun-jin Kim is just a total babe as well smile.gif

Heh...Shannon & Boone. Yeah. Established in TEH CRAZY!!! laugh.gif

But yeah, for a show where the flashback device is used to constantly get us to reevaluate the characters, the way it was used for Sun & Jin was the most surprising and the most poignant, IMO. (Sawyer's back story is pretty great, too.)

And the uninitiated are a week away, so I shall say no more...
