better yet... go to www.movies.com They use a good chunk of the national US newspapers and big reviewers and put them onto their site. They use a 1-5 ranking, 5 being the best, by averaging the score of the national papers. This year Shaun of the Dead ranked in as one of the top rated movies of ALL that were released this year...
Shaun ended up with a 4.67/5. CHECK IT HERE!
http://movies.go.com/moviesdynamic/movies/movie?id=669521Out of 15 reviewers, it got 13 positive and 2 mixed, and 0 negative. That NEVER happens on movies.com.
SOTD ranked HIGHER than Oscar favorites such as The Aviator, Hotel Rwanda, Finding Neverland, and Sideways (those all got around a 4/5 just to put these reviewers in perspective) and it tied other oscar faves The Incredibles and Million Dollar Baby.
Now my question is... since SOTD got reviewed so blatantly well here... why is it not getting ANY oscar talk? It got rated better than all of the above which are all that are being talked about!

Box office sales, maybe. Or, perhaps because it's just a simple indie film (if it is one, even)?
Honestly I don't think it would be Oscar material, but it is a cult classic for years to come. I mean, look at Evil Dead! It's
obviously not oscar material, but it is a classic, and a very memorable one at that.

Libby, as frostitute told me... you have to order it from www.amazon.co.uk or some other site like that, AND you need to get a region-free dvd player. I heard you can get a region-free dvd player (which basically means you can play international dvds) at places like circuit city and best buy, you just gotta start asking around. I don't think they're really any more expensive than a regular one. I think it will be worth it to get the spaced DVDs! I can't wait to get mine (i'm saving up for the 3 disk set and the dvd player right now)
Yeah... i don't necessarily think its an "oscar" type movie. But it could get a nom at least for stuff like screenplay based off original material and stuff like that. Its just sad to see that one of the best reviewed movies in america has just been completely ignored.

"Shaun" fan givin' a shout-out from Pittsburgh, home of the Living Dead.
The Pitt's okay, good malls, good friends, a tad polluted....
...oh, yeah, and the undead mass about once a year to feast on the flesh of the living. Not fun. Well, at least I'm comforted that I can use a cricket bat to defend myself.

Quick poll:
How many other people were in the cinema when
you went to see Shaun for the first time?
For me, it was 8. Total. Including myself and the usher. And I was the only one who showed up before the theatre opened and queued up for it.
However, being that this was the only screening house in the entire state showing it that day, that means that I was the first person in all of Vermont, potentially all of the northeast, to purchase a ticket on US soil.

I saw it first at a preview with the boys there, so there was a good amount of people. But I also paid to see it when it came out properly and I would say the the theatre was pretty full.

Being from the UK the things that bother me most is how we get things last. But on the + side we have much better comedy but we do have Jonathan Ross as well and the US have Jay Leno they are both evil but which is the lesser?
WiseJoeyD
Mar 10 2005, 09:59 PM
Jonathan Ross - lesser
He's okay.
Jay "comic" Leno ont he other hand/pond is like some 70's ironic comic who's revivied his kitcsh punchlines about geese and bananas....
rabbit57i
Mar 10 2005, 10:09 PM
I would agree. I like Jonathan Ross, he's entertaining at the least. Leno is just an old fogey.

Jay Leno has nothing on the true King of Late Night, Connan O'Brian. Also, I never got to see SotD in theaters. I remember specifically seeing it as a preview before Hero and I wispered in a friend's ear "That looks so bad ass" and my other friend wispered into the the same friends other ear "That looks retarded." Obviously he was wrong. But any way, I never saw an add for it to be in theaters, but I was wondering around the video store and boom there it was...happiest day of the year, or one of the happiest of my life? MAybe.
