Since I first watched the movie, I keep asking myself "what day is it, when Shaun and his friends fight all the.....sorry, "zombies"?"

The story begins friday night, on saturday Shaun goes to work, messes up the booking of the table, gets dumped and goes out drinking with Ed.Then, in the night from sat to sun, Pete comes down and yells that itīs funking sunday and heīs gotta go to work in x hours.

So, is there a mistake in the dialogue or what "department" is Pete working at, that needs him to work on sundays?

Maybe this has been discussed before, but I didnīt know which word to search for rolleyes.gif

He has to work because every one else is sick. He says something like "and I have to get up in 4 hours because everyone else is sick." So probably because they are sick, he has to do more work that probably has to get done by a certain time, so he has to come in on his day off to get that done. I think.

Pete probably works in a bank or accountancy firm. I can't remember whether it's made explicit, but I think it's fairly clear that Pete works 'in the City' - i.e. in the financial district of London, where people earn enormous salaries to work ungodly hours. It would not be uncommon for a City boy to work on a Sunday.

urgh, city boys. i'll go for the sales assistant anyday

From Simon himself:

"Pete is strictly middle management. He's a Brent level professional with none of the insecurity."

I always assumed that when Pete said it was Sunday and he had to go to work in 4 hours that it was actually early Monday morning.

What i mean is....although techinically the next day starts at middnight but if it's after midnight on a sunday night you still sometimes say it's 2am on Sunday, not Monday morning.

Though I'd not really thought of this until now...must go and re-watch film...

Just spotted this thread, not sure if it's been sorted out elsewhere (don't shoot me if it has!). I saw it as...

Film starts on Friday night at The Winchester where Shaun says he'll sort out a table at the resturant for his and Liz's 3rd anniversary, which was actually the previous week.

Then it's Saturday morning at Shaun, Pete and Ed's shared house. Shaun and Pete go to work. Shaun's step-dad pops in to remind Shaun about coming to Sunday dinner the next day. Late afternoon we see Shaun coming home, bumping into Yvonne and then suddenly remembering he hasn't booked the table for his and Liz's dinner. Liz calls just as he's found out the resturant's booked up and asks if she wants to go to The Winchester instead and she hangs up. It's early evening when he rushes round to Liz's to try and make up with her but she just ends up dumping him. Saturday night he ends up at The Winchester with Ed where they have a lock in.

In the early hours of Sunday morning they stumble home and play loud electro which wakes up Pete. He comes down where he whips off the record and chucks it out and growls 'it's 4 in the fucking morning!'. Shaun protests it's Saturday but Pete reminds them it's now turned into Sunday morning and that he has to go work 'in 4 fucking hours!'. Shaun wakes up in the kitchen just after sunrise and goes to the shop. When he comes back he and Ed deal with Mary in the garden. After finding Pete they go to Shaun's mum's and take her and Phillip over to Liz's. During lunchtime they get a bit lost but get to The Winchester after two in the afternoon. They hole up until evening when the street lights come on and the zombies start to come in. The army then come to the rescue in the late evening.

Make sense? I'm sure someone will tell me if I got any of that wrong.

Yeah, all the zombie bashing definately happens on a Sunday because on the commentry and on the storyboard, they call it "Bloody Sunday".

Just like Bloody Mary and how Ed predicts the future without knowing it. AND... how in the bar Ed compliments Shaun saying "Good shot" which was a reversal of roles. AND..... how snake lips ironc death was that he was always surrounded by women right up to the point he was eaten. And there are some more but I want to stop typing now.
