Now, maybe I'm just a stuffy stick in the mud, but don't you just hate it when something catches on, it gets loads of media coverage and you can't understand where it came from, why its popular and what the hell its all about?
Case in point: the frickin' motorcycle crazy frog mobile phone thing.
What is that all about? Who pays for all this advertising? Why does everyone have this ringtone? AM I MISSING THE POINT?!

You have no idea how much I hate that that ringtone. Luckily I haven't met anyone that has it, because if I did I would shove their f**king phone up their arseholes

The whole remake thing thats going on, shite sequels to disney films, remaking /rereleasing old kids classics which can be good or horendusly bad (just look at the popples and the latest hideous remake that is The littlest petshop which I still have the originals)
Remaking some films making me heave. I avoid them with a passioin. Mind you I was forced to watch the new italien job. seeing it as a separate film unrelated to anything else (havent seen original) i thought it was ok as a different story.
Ringtone/other products being advertised back toback or 5 times in a single break.

I LIKE South Park, but one I think was crap was King of the Hill.
You know what ringtone ad really bugged me? I can't remember the name of it but its the one with the guy walking down the street with all the people dancing behind him, then this mono ringtone rings and the expression on everyones face is shocked. It turns out to be someone else and all the plonkers start swaying and dancing down the street.

i hate it when shit and unecessary remakes are made - they take a good film and squeeze all the life out of it. whats the effing point?
Douglas Nicol
Jan 24 2005, 10:04 PM
What I don't get are 'remakes' that have absolutely nothing to do with the original.
The Italian Job is a prime example, even Charlize Theron being eminently fanciable doesn't make that guilt free.

I asked some people about why the Italian Job isn't like the old one and was told "Hollywood audiences want a US based film", whether that's true or not, why even bother calling it The Italian Job and not just use the same story that they had but call it something else.
And some of the films they're making right now....Alexander, now let's see, we have the worlds most celebrated General, for one, we'll not concentrate on his military campaigns, we'll concentrate on his sexuality, oh his mother will be played by someone who is only a year older than the actor playing Alexander, she'll have a ridiculous pseudo-Russian Accent, and the Macedonian prince himself will sound Irish.

I disagree... I think the first Charlie's Angels movie and the new Battlestar Galactica proves that, when done right, you can get away with remaking something and it ending up superior!

Yeah, but wouldn't it be better to just come up with a new idea, or is that asking too much?
Douglas Nicol
Jan 25 2005, 11:12 AM
Granted, remakes sometimes work, Galactica is a good one, and the Starsky & Hutch film was good because it was done partially as a parody and didn't attempt to take itself too seriously, but the whole remake thing has got out of hand.

I think that all depends. If someone has a passion for something and believes that they can "reinvent it" so to speak, then let them. As long as they do a decent job...

Yeah, quite possibly.
It's just that I would much rather see something new, and if I want to see a film again I will watch it again, better than a shitty rehash of something you used to really like.

Yeah, I never really got them either. Only ever heard about 2 of their songs. They're more about the smack than the music (man) and that's only meant to happen after the third album. And in the 1960's.

I don't get the whole reality TV concept at all.
Something like Airport can occasionally be fun to watch when you get the stupid goits who check in two minutes before take off and wonder why they don't get on board and then say they wouldn't have this with British Airways (patent crap as a 2 hour check in is a standard and BA's a lot more expensive anyway)
Anyhow, shows like Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity and so on, I've never watched them, I've seen the occasional clip and really don't see what's appealing about them. The funny thing is, if you say you watch something like Star Trek, B5, Galactica etc, you get called 'sad', but the people that do that are the types that'll watch this sort of garbage.

I did watch the first series of Big Brother, because it was an original concept (although not that original being stolen from Holland) and it was quite interesting how people coped in such an unusual environment.
However after that it was just shite. There wasn't much point in doing it all over again as it had already been done.
As for I'm a celebrity, I could never bring myself to watch it in a million years. It's just an excuse for a bunch of has-been's to try and resurrect a career which died on it's arse years ago.

Yeah, i quite enjoyed the first series - cos at the time, a lot of people had no clue what it was like (including the contestants) so they acted normal and they were quite likeable.
Now though, Channel 4 - being the most 'unable-to-let-go' channel have just let the flood gates open for all these wankers to come in and soil television.
How about

I've never read any of the Potter books, so I went to see the first film when it was released, as everyone had said how it was just like the book and all.
It was a great big pile of tods.
And to think that they feel it can be compared to the Lord of the Rings films?! Never read any of those books, but the films turned out rather well, eh?
I can't wait for the last book to be released. Despite all the 'end of an era' shite they may say, it will be great to see Potter fans crying into their broomsticks.
