I had a weird experience with the subtitles also. They appeared out of nowhere and I couldn't turn them off. I think I went to the disk menu to shut them off. However, afterwards I couldn't get them on again. I think there is something amiss with these disks.

Yeah, same ting.
I actually felt the subtitles benefitted the film a little, because there's always line's you can't quite hear. Not only that, but I'm sure not everyone would have known that the starting music was 'Ghost Town' or the music on the bus was 'Zombie Nation', etc - little quirks I suppose.

No problems here, on either my old DVD player or my new one...

Yeah, this was happening at my friend's at the weekend, it was driving us bonkers trying to switch them off - nothing worked, couldn't even select the Zomb-O-Meter, just the regular subtitles stayed on. The subtitles even were going on and off too fast to read!
I think it's her player, never had a problem on my expensive player or cheapy player.

I normally have subtitles on DVDs (and TV) too because I have buggered up my hearing from having my music too loud since the age of about 4. No regrets!

It pisses me off that the subtitles are different to the actual words, are all the same colour, and tend to pre-empt jokes before they arrive on screen.

try the good old fashioned turn off turn on routine.

My self and my mate ordered our copies at the sametime his had that problem but he just went into the subtitle menu and turned it off and no problems with it since then. Dont know if this makes a difference but he uses a PC DVD player.
