A short list - but hopefully your favourite is among them. At the moment Farscape does it for me, great scripts, action and Claudia Black.

Farscape for me but it was quite close...
Where's Firefly? I grumpily abstain...

Sorry Zoe - was going to put Firefly on the list but as it only did 13 shows I thought not many people would have seen it. I have converted a few people over to it by getting them to buy the DVD set - which I recommend to everyone. Hopefully the movie 'Serenity' will be great.

No Battlestar Galactica either. Harumph!
I declare your poll null and void. And lacking in the next big hope for all that's good and decent in sci-fi.
Although I realise I may be taking this slightly too seriously.
No, no I'm not. No Dr Who either.

Well since you've apologised so nicely I'll vote for the original Star Trek then...

I don't have any one favourite, these are my favourites
Battlestar Galactica (old and new)
Farscape
Red Dwarf
Stargate SG-1
Babylon 5
Space:1999
V
Buck Rogers (camp but still fun, having Erin Gray doesn't hurt either)

Hopefully you mean the new Galactica. Again omitted for similar reasons to Firefly.
And it is a great new show - perhaps I should do a poll based on shows that have only started in the past couple of years.
And Doctor Who - well that was an oversight - I should put more thought into the possible answers.

Farscape by a frelling mile. (See what I did there?) My friend's bringing over Peacekeeper Wars tonight so I'll be all tingly from Ben Browder over-exposure tomorrow.

Nah, no worries. I understand that Galactica could go all wrong at some point - assuming it will get a 2nd series - but at the moment it is not only rocking my boat, but seriously threatening to capsize it.
Not including them in the poll gives us all a chance to write down why we like them and could lead to a bit more discussion.

Well, as there is no Firefly the best "out-and-out" sci-fi show was Farscape. Funny, good production values, great babes and a little bit kinky.

i was reminded of this on another site - weird ... any way i liked TNG but my fav by far was DS9. Lots of people didn't like it - I KNOW - it had it's flaws, granted. It only really got good mid-series 3. But i liked it lots - it had great plotlines, excellent actors, believable characters and was not afraid to pose some tricky moral dilemmas for the characters too. My fav character was the fabulous Garak. And Dr Bashir was very phwoar!!

Out of that selection I have to go with DS9, but if (the new) Galactica was there I'd go for that in a second.
Jadzia was certainly very attractive, but she seemed a bit sexless to me. (Sisco calling her 'old man' all the time didn't help.) In fact, many of the Star Trek babes seem rather cool and remote - Seven of Nine and that vulcan bird in Enterprises being cases in point.
Having said that, when I saw Jadzia in the original-series uniform for the tribbles episode my blood pressure grew dangerously high!

i loved that episode and that dress ...

Jadzia is lush!
Maybe the DS9 uniforms put you off. They were a bit sexless i suppose. And everyone did seem a little stiff at times (unless in the Parallel Universe). Kira couldn't be seen as cold surely?? Like when she played the Lounge singer Lola Crystal or the Russian agent. As the evil Intendent she did dress like Sheena Easton in her Prince days "u got the look!!!"

Oh yes. I didn't mean that all the Star Trek women struck me as cold, just that a lot of the most obviously attractive ones did. Kira certainly had her moments!

At the moment I would probably go with Firefly as it's the most recent show to grab my attention but Farscape, DS9 and Babylon 5 are all contenders, as well as Doctor Who . . .

I watched the first 2 hours of Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars last night. Ohboyohboyohboyohboy! So good! It's such a bloody travesty that it got cancelled; it's funny, sexy, amazing cast chemistry, morally ambiguous, clever, complex, exciting and looks amazing. What's not to love and adore?

TNG was my favourite Trek.
I never liked Farscape, even though I watched it regularly. The characters all seemed unlikeable, selfish and smart-arsed.

I voted stargate, cause its the best, or at least it was, until this most recent series (and i'll ignore most of atlantis, although it isn't unwatchable). A close second and third would be Farscape, and then Babylon 5, although i only liked a few series of that.
Why isn't Andromeda on there huh? joking, sorry.

Feb 4 2005, 04:40 PM
Doctor Who, if it was there.
Since it isn't, I was caught between DS9 and Babylon 5. Went for B5 in the end because overall it was more interesting. That said, it could also be unbelievably bad at times. Also, I've watched more B5 recently. tried watching DS9 series 1 bit lost interest completely. One of the teaser sequences involved O Brien having a cup of coffee which was, horrors, cold!

Best shows:
Farscape, Babylon 5, Firefly, Max Headroom, Red Dwarf, ST:DS9.
Hottest scifi babe: Sikozu from Farscape (Ralee Hill).
Hottest Star Trek babe: Ro Laren from Next Gen (Michelle Forbes).

Does Futurama count? Because it pisses on those others from a height.

Feb 5 2005, 09:59 AM
I couldn't agree more. Futurama gets it right where so many others get it wrong. I like the idea of Sci-Fi. It's just when you get down to it the majority of these programmes are little more than sub-average soap operas which happen to have a space setting. A bit more humour, originality and out and out weirdness is definitly the order of the day. The other gripe is with the fanboy obsessives. Take the X-Files. It was a great little programme for the first couple of series.(ie Scooby Doo for adults). Then it all got too serious. By pandering to the hardcore fans they pretty much ruined it for everyone else.
The same goes for Red Dwarf. In series 7 it stopped being a comedy and became a sci fi show. I stopped caring.

Farscape almost did it, but Babylon 5 won out in the end simply because it had more of an influence on my life. Very different shows, although Babylon 5 did have its share of really funny moments. Maybe after I've seen the Wars DVD I might revise my opinion (in that it'll have deleted scenes)...

btw, Ezri was sexier than Jadzia for my money shot.
Anyway, on topic. No Firefly so DS9 for me.
