Linklater takes his Waking Life experience a touch further and casts a bunch of idiots at the same time. This could go one of a million ways.
Zoe
I love Dick (stop giggling at the back).

Great trailer and some choice dialogue in there. I'm pretty excited.

Raven
Ah, I really should read this then before the film comes out!

Someone should do a movie of The Man in a High Castle smile.gif

Anything by Dick translates beautifully to film.

I can't see Ubik making much sense as a film! That's real mess-with-your-head stuff smile.gif
Zoe
Alright, maybe that was a slightly foolish generalisation.

I'd hate to see a film of 'The Pre-Persons' for example, I was furious after reading it and didn't read any Dick for a long time afterwards. I've forgiven him now it was written in the early seventies and he wasn't a well man by then.

That said, Ubik would be an awesome film!

What made you so mad? If you can say without giving the plot away to someone who hasn't read it!

It's a hugely misogynistic and badly disguised anti abortion rant.
Raven
Ah, so at least it wasn't the bad grammar . . . wink.gif

I have a few PKD books at home that I haven't read - I'm now tempted to have a go at one of them this weekend!

I just looks so cool that I would love it. Visual entertain me and I'm happy. I just wish that Keanu idiot wasn't in it. sad.gif

Never! Although he does come in for a bit of unnecessary stick. But also a lot of necessary stick. All kinds of stick.

Say stick again

I won't just say it. I'll show it.

What other films have been made of dicks work?
I've never read anything by him, just ordered "Five Great Novels": Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep / Martian Time Slip / Ubik / The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch / A Scanner Darkly" from amazon to catch up.
Raven
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (as Bladerunner of course), Minority Report and now A Scanner Darkly - as far as I know.

Total Recall was based on one of his short stories as well, but I'll be buggered if I can ever remember what that's called.

I've read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Ubik, but have several others that I need to read (I collect the SF Masterworks range of novels which you probably ordered some of tonight! smile.gif ).

We Can Remember It For You Wholesale

Also Paycheck which was 75% shit, Imposter, Screamers (based on Second Variety) and Confessions of a Crap Artist.
Raven
Cool Winona Ryder's in it! (only just got to watch the trailer - no broadband at home . . . ).

Ryder and Downy Jr. in the same film - did they hold a casting session in a rehab clinic or something?! tongue.gif

Looks great IMO.
Raven
Went looking for a copy of A Scanner Darkly (which I could find in my local Waterstones) and ended up buying The Penultimate Truth, which looks like a jolly interesting read going by the back cover smile.gif
whitey
Stumbled across the old R.Crumb comic about Dick and thought I'd share the link. If you'd rather pay money to read it (and have a proper printed version of that great art) issues of Weirdo are pretty much permanently in print so it should be easy enough to get a copy of. Issue 17 I believe.
Rushmore
It looks pretty good. cool.gif
