This month I've decided to throw my hat into the ring and nominate the latest release in the SF Masterworks range, Philip K. Dick's The Penultimate Truth.

I have no idea what this book will be like, but from reading the back cover it sounds a bit 1984ish (and if it's anything like Dick's other books I expect it to get pretty surreal!).

Once again you have a month to read the book, the thread will be opened for comment etc at the end of March.

Open for discussion/comment, I will post my comments when I've finished the book! (hopefully in the next few days!).

I have to say that I didn't initially enjoy the book. It began awkwardly and seemed to go no where - introducing characters with little follow-through. However by the end I can honestly say I found it both an entertaining and thought-provoking read. I found it to be a mixture of George Orwell and Robert Harris; "1984" and "Fatherland" respectively.

yeah i got a bit bored with the start.. put i down and read the Da Vinci code instead... but will try to finish it off now

It's certainly not the easiest book to get into . . .

I must admit I like a book that IS easy to get into but I continued on because I was reading it for a purpose. As soon as all the storylines were apparent and I had enough detail to form a good enough idea about what was going on I could read it pretty easily and I eventually enjoyed it. However it is a bit difficult to get into at the beginning. It's worth it though I think. Maybe not the best choice from Philip K Dick for a first time read though.
