Trouble with the original Enterprise - and I don't mean the piece of shit from 'Enterprise' - is that it looks a little dated, design-wise. Will it be slightly tweaked and updated but not made into a CG monstrosity, I wonder?

I don't think it'll be changed much - it's a classic design and the nerds will go crazy if it's altered.
That shot looks ace.

Oh yeah, they do a bit. I quite like that, it's a bit more 'industrial'.
I interested in the balance they strike between old and new. It wouldn't be Star Trek if everything was dirty and Star Wars-like, but at the same time a bit of edginess will breathe life into the old girl.

GundamGuy_UK
Jan 17 2008, 11:01 PM
4chan, so it could be from anywhere.
It looks like the other shot though, so I'm willing to believe it's real.
If it's not, someone came up with a very professional image based on that other released one very quickly.
Raven
Jan 17 2008, 11:12 PM
It does look very similar, but the quaility of the image obviously isn't up to that of the first image so if this is legit - and I'm not saying it isn't - it must be a concept model of some kind.
The thing that is bothering me is I'm sure I've seen this image before somewhere, but I just can't place it . . .
GundamGuy_UK

If it's not real, judging by the last image, it looks pretty much how the actual will be.
EDIT:
Not real

I'm guessing they probably will glow (orange?), if they are trying to do an update of the original Enterprise design. The blades on the front look like they are designed to rotate, and I suspect this will give a similar effect to the rotating engine lights on the original model.

Hmm, have heard many negative things about this project.
I have been a Star Trek fan for most of my life, but I have a bad feeling about this one.
The script has apparently been written by two people who have little feel for all things Trek and the writer's strike means that they are bound to shoot the script that was submitted when the strike began - they also aren't allowed to tamper with it in any way, not even improvisation on the set.
It's a damn shame, as such a talented cast (obviously with Mr P at the top of the heap!) and a director who genuinely loves Star Trek, are going to be hamstrung by being contractually bound to a script that needed at least another draft before going ahead.
The official pic of the Enterprise being constructed bears out that they're not going with the long-standing idea that it was built in an orbiting shipyard - it looks like they're saying that the Enterprise WAS built in Area 51 (shudder!) as per the rumour I heard a few weeks ago.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one, but I have heard too much negative stuff to get my hopes up.

Kev WHmm, I'm not sure if that's a hundred per cent correct; it's my understanding that ad libbing is fine as long as the person who is ad libbing is not a member of the writer's guild.

As far as teaser trailers go it isn't that bad, but I can't really get excited about a few sweaty welders and a glimpse of a new Enterprise.
All it really does is cobble together things they know the fans what to see (the fanfare, a Nimoy voice over, a brief glimpse of the Enterprise and then a transporter sound effect).
I wonder how many non-Trek fans will have their interest piqued by this?
I know I'm probably sounding a little jaded, but I remember another teaser trailer a few years back that had some mechanical breathing in it . . .
I'm going to wait for the final product before I start getting too excited.

The teaser bears out that horrible rumour Nick & I heard about the Enterprise being constructed on Earth (more than likely at Area 51).
It will be interesting to see if this movie helps to rekindle interest in the Star Trek, as the franchise has been in the doldrums for a few years now - the cancellation of Enterprise was pretty much the capper.
Nick & I will always have time for the Original Series, but it'll be interesting to see if this movie will impact upon our fondness of the original cast.

You see... Trek I can take or leave... I like it and all that, but certainly not a trekkie.
The trailer was a bit lacklustre and certainly there was nothing that I can think would entice a non-trek fan.

I can't remember if this has been discussed already.
Is Star Trek XI, with its new cast of the same characters, being used to re-start the series like Batman Begins and Casino Royale?
What I mean is, will there be a XII and XIII forming a "new" Star Trek trilogy?

I'm not aware of any plans having been made past this film, which is supposed to be the story of the original crews first meeting.

NEWS!
The release date for JJ Abrams's Star Trek movie has officially been pushed back to next summer.
The official reason behind it is because the box-office potential could be incresed by having as a summer movie, rather than release it around Christmas.
Oh well, looks like Spaced-Outers are going to have to wait to see Mr P doing his Scotty thing...

When is Hollywood going to recognise REAL British talent like Dominic West for example? It's the likes of Simon Pegg and Ricky Gervias sucking up to the likes of Robert DeNiro and Tom Cruise that makes me almost ashamed to be British. There...feel much better now.

A quote from Chris Doohan about Simon, taken from TrekMovie.com:
QUOTE
Fortunately, I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Pegg. on the set back in February. Watching him play the part of Scotty was a real gift and something that I will never forget. Simon says that he will play the part as a tribute to my Father and after seeing him in action, I must say that my Father would be proud to pass the torch to such a fine actor. Simon did a great job and we are honored that he is filling my father’s space boots.

GundamGuy_UK

True, but you always know Bond or whoever is going to live.
It'll add to the "I wonder how they'll get out of this one!" element, as they devise a clever and ridiculous scheme to beat whatever it is that's wrong.
"I know! We'll fly really fast round the Sun and go back in time!"
