A "Friend" eh?

Is that a "Friend" as in "I have a Friend who has a rather nasty rash, Doctor . . . " tongue.gif
GundamGuy_UK
I can post some photos of him dressed up if you want me to proove it's not me...

He doesn't actually have sex dressed as an animal (though I'm not sure how much of that is down to him not finding someone willing) and he doesn't dress up much (I think he prefers himself to be human and the other to be an animal), but he does have an alarming amount of porn of Amy Rose, Maid Marion etc.

And among all his action figures in his room are many animal figure, none of which I touch.

Joe, just because someone asks "Do you want to see my horrific porn collection?" doesn't mean you have to accept...

BTW define horrific - as in really scary to look at, or vast amounts of. wink.gif

As in, his hard drive is full of it, and it's things like mice being raped in half by a human penis, so a little from column a, little from column b.

Anyway, Star Trek...

Pegg: Star Trek Not A Remake (contains an amussing picture of Simon).

More Simon, with another picture.

I wouldn't say that at all.

There have been a lot of articles from the rest of the cast and crew as well (most notably from JJ Abrams), you are seeing a lot of Simon only comments on here because I have linked to them (for obvious reasons).

Simon has had a lot of interviews over the summer, what with the US release of Run, Fat Boy, Run, the US release of the Spaced DVD and now with the release of How To Lose Friends And Alienate People, and naturally he has been asked about Trek at the same time, hence the number of articles, but that's all it is.

That Simon, such a media whore. Look at him, hogging the spotlight. Oooh, look at all the films I've made.

It's a wonder eh? You'd think he had talent or fans or something to make that many movies.. tongue.gif

It's great he's been able to say a lot of positive things that have silenced a lot of the Trek-nerds; more than anyone else connected with the film (to quote one of said Trek-nerds). cool.gif

I thought it was Trekkie?

Pegg: Star Trek Irony-Free.
Starscream`s Ghost
I thought 'civilians' called them Trekkies, and Trekkies called themselves 'Trekkers'.

Both are better than the term 'Whovian'.

Don't get Treknical with me.

I'll get my coat.
Raven
I think it's the more anal fans that call themselves Trekkers, hoping that it will give them a degree of credibility over Trekkies.

Of course, what they don't understand is that there is no credibility in being a Star Trek fan anyway, so it doesn't really matter what you call yourself . . .

^ Nice. cool.gif

Great to see that the general opinion of the Trekkies is that the actors/characters look good. happy.gif
A lot of them seem to hate the look of the bridge, though. *shrug* mellow.gif

I have some "issues" with the design of the bridge - they kept the original look of the uniforms, whilst updating them to give a more contemporary feel, but they have gone and compltely redesigned the bridge.

Nick argued that they could have done the same thing with the bridge that they have done with the uniforms - keep the same basic design, just construct them with contemporary materials.

Still looking forward to this - as a recovering Star Trek fan... wink.gif

I'm not a Trek fan but pretty much all of them are far too good looking. Particularly Kirk.

I think the bridge will make more sense once there's a proper overview of what it looks like rather than just from a couple of angles. It's all looking good to me.

I agree, from the pictures I've seen so far you can't really see more than part of a bulkhead or part of a screen so how can people really tell?!
Crutch
And we shouldn't forget that they even totally re-created the bridge for the old movies as well. The first Star Trek movie looks nothing like there ever was in Star Trek before or afterwards and it still worked back then.
dolfyn
I did read a quote somewhere from Abrams, saying that he's redesigned the bridge to have a lot of glass & blue lighting. But yeah, you can never please everyone, especially full-on one-eyed fans. *shrug* rolleyes.gif

Am I the only one of the mindset that it is financial suicide to make this film so soon after the abominations that were "Enterprise" and "Nemesis"? We have not even had time to get the mouthwash out to wash the bad taste out of our mouths.

BBC News - First Trek film footage unveiled

Guardian article
GundamGuy_UK
I like how the Guardian article is using shaky camera in cinema footage of the teaser trailer.
Raven
First look at the new Enterprise.

Looks like the movie version saucer with a stylised secondary hull and warp engines stuck on. It may be the perspective, but the proportions look wrong to me. Really need to see it on screen to get a better idea of what it looks like.
GundamGuy_UK
Don't look wrong to me, it looks fantastic.

That was my view also. But then I'm not a Trekker/Trekkie/Treknician.
Raven
It's certainly dividing opinion on the TrekNews site, with most seemingly against it.

Personally I'm waiting until I've seen it on screen before I pass judgement, after all the Enterprise D looks damn odd from some points of view.
GundamGuy_UK
What's to be against? It's perfect.
Jessopjessopjessop
I don't care what they've done with the ship; it's a reboot and by God the franchise needed it. But the hardcore fans are going to hate it regardless.

The spoilers from the recent screenings make it sound really great. I'm pretty excited now!

I seriously cannot see what people are complaining about, they're so poisonous in their comments.

It looks like the ship to me. I think it looks awesome.

It looks exactly the same, just the engines are slightly different.

I stopped reading them halfway through as they were spectacularly spoilery spoilers. I've made a decision to avoid trailers from now on (unless its something like Watchmen in which I already know the plot) as they do nothing but ruin the film. Even simple things like you see on the trailer a monster in a desert (for example), when you're watching the film in the cinema and the characters wander into a desert you're just sat their thinking, "right, there'll be that bit with a monster in a minute" and it takes any surprise out of it.
