Since I started the Funeral music thread I thought I'd try and lift the tone by asking whether anyone had thought what they might have played on a (possibly) happier occasion.
Personally I'm not sure I'll bother getting married unless my partner was very keen, I don't see the point (except for the tax breaks). If I do end up getting hitched though one thing's for sure 'Wild Horses' by The Rolling Stones will be the first dance.
So what would you/did you have as your first dance?

It was gonna be SFA's 'Fire in my Heart', or, more cheesily, the Verve's 'Lucky Man', but it didn't happen.

No, I'm fine...

My friends had "You're My Best Friend" by Queen, which was very, very sweet.
Incidentally they had "Do you Realise" as they walked out the church, which I noticed had popped up in the Funeral thread. A song for all occasions!
I'd quite like to have "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys.

Yeah, that's my favourite song of all time; but one of my mates (who's wife picked it - he didn't even know what it was) had it last year, thieving bastard!
Saw Brian Wilson perform it live at The Royal Festival Hall and it made me cry.

Good song, and one I wanted, but the missus wanted "This Years Love". I did, however, get them to play "How Soon Is Now?" by The Smiths as she walked down the aisle.

A female friend and I, many years back, agreed that it would be cool to play The Imperial March as the bride walked down the isle - sadly she was dating someone else at the time . . .
Lost touch with her now, I wonder if she did it?
I have another friend who had to play the Doctor Who theme on a piano for someone as they walked out of the church.

The only way that I would have the Doctor Who theme would be if there were a secret way out that we could nip out of, run around to the front and walk in again... look like some kinda weird time loop!

I'm with Zoe on this one.
My dad and my stepmother had Elton John and Westlife played at the ceremony. I wanted to hurl the stereo out the window.
One of my friends played a few Ozzy tracks at his reception. Cue lots of headbanging and devil signs.
I'd go for Love Rears It's Ugly Head by Living Colour

First Dance-Dancin' in the Moonlight by Thin Lizzy-and if someone plays the Toploader dirge by the same name I will NOT be a happy bunny.
First proper romantic dance would probably be "Let's do it-Let's fall in love" By Ella fitzgerald.

I'm quite relieved that no one has picked up on that, although this isn't the reason I picked the song (the Stones are my favourite band and it's a beautiful song), this is the song played as Buffy and Angel dance at the senior prom.
This obviously had no impact on my choice...

If the DJ doesn't have the theme music to Steptoe and Son, then it'd have to be something related to who I was actually getting married to.
Currently dallying (if that's a word) with a girl who, like me, loves Blur, so something by them might be good. Charmless Man?

well actually i was going to be a music snob and say that the flying burrito brothers version is better. keith richards gave the song to gram parsons after he helped the stones write honky tonk woman. after he recorded it they realised it was a great song and claimed it back.
the last wedding i went to had an english folk band doing jigs and reels - it was brilliant! we all learnt to dosie - do and square dance, grannies and kids together. top night.

My bf's Grandad passed away earlier this year and some of the family decided they wanted to play the Steptoe and Son theme during the wake for a laugh.
The thing is, the Steptoe track was on the CD straight after the classical music used in the funeral service. The funeral parlour obviously had no idea of this. So as people were filing out after the service we were all suddenly treated to the Steptoe theme blaring out of the funeral parlour speakers
But bf's mum and her sisters all cracked up laughing and then we all laughed.
It really lightened the mood. I think it was a blessing in disguise. Especially since bf's Grandad always had such a good sense of humour. He would have loved it.

Kylie and Jason getting married on Neighbours??
My cousin got married to what we would refer to as a complete and total bogan.
Anyone who has seen "Kath & Kim" should have a pretty good idea what bogans are like (nearly all the characters in the show)
The nearest English equivalent would probably be a chav.
Anyway, they actually played Pearl Jam's "Better Man" at their wedding!
Hello!!! Someone didn't listen to the lyrics of that one did they?

"Goin' Gone" by Nanci Griffith
There's a lighthouse in the harbour
Giving guidance with it's light
But, I had no one to return to
as I wandered through the night
From the first time that I saw you
Standing silent by the shore
I knew my search was over
and I would look for love no more
(chorus)
Deep in the waters of love I am falling
Sinking like a stone
Deep in my heart I can hear love callin'
Goin' once, goin twice, goin' gone
Goin' once, goin twice, goin' gone
Not written by the woman herself but she writes so few of happiness in the heart.

I dunno if ben has mentioned this without reading the entire thread but his best mate walked down the isle to "I wanna Grow Old With You" by Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer.
I was proper on the verge of a good blub and that has never happened to me before at a wedding!!
The wedding I went to the other day they had a string quartet playing her down the isle to a T-Rex song but I cant remember which one.
Pretty cool huh?
