Shaun of the Dead has picked up the gong for Best British Film at the 10th annual Sony Ericsson Empire Awards!

Accepting the award was director Edgar Wright who was joined on stage by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield and Nira Park. In his acceptance speech Edgar thanked the Empire faithful for their support.

Their acceptance speech, as quoted from the Empire web site, is as follows:

Simon Pegg: Thank you very much indeed, this is wonderful. Thank you very much to Working Title for getting the film made. Thanks to my pimp. To everyone who worked on the film, to all our zombies that came along and did their stumbling for free. To everyone here… I'm slightly overwhelmed… Edgar?

Edgar Wright: I'd like to thank obviously the Empire readers…

Simon Pegg: Yes, Empire readers, thanks!

Edgar Wright: It's very nice, I've got every single issue of Empire except number one, though I did read it in WH Smith. So, I didn't have quite the foresight to buy it at the time. Sorry about that but thank you for this award.

Great pics!
Thanks Frosty, you always come through with the goods biggrin.gif

Nothing wrong with pinstripes. Very slimming.
Most of my work trousers are pinstriped.

edgar looks scarey without the facial hair. put it back man!
AusChick
I've always liked Edgar best when he's beardy.

But he's ok clean-shaven too.
I just prefer his face fuzzy.

Maybe she was presenting?

But I think she needs to rethink her stylist...

Well Done guys, anyway! smile.gif

"He was playing with his hands".....how does one know this information?!

[Cut to interior of flat adorned with bits of tinsel, Tesco exotic spices, a glowing pumkpin and "Ouija Now It?" board game with real baby sacrifices]

"Concentrate...I see..I see...Tarintino's jaw......and beyond...the gang colecting their Best Film award.....and another plug for Spaced boxset"

[Pyschic adverts - frontin' in your own mind]

There is a video of them accepting the award on the site.

hermione from harry potter is beautiful and rich, where she live?

My god....faster than a fretful post editor!

I saw the backstage one. which was nice.

Simon being all Lana Lang (ie passive aggresive - little Smallville injoke there...cough) when he said "I'll let Edgar answer interent rumours" before withdrawing from the witness stand/microphone.

Was that Nira Park on the left by the by? I always thought tsh'ed look more like Nathan Lane....or am I getting mixed up between aproducer and The Producers?

Edit: again with the editing!

Captain Wow: Beofre that info is divulged, you need to prove you're not a stalker by answering the following question: what food was I thinking of eating for linner (lunch/dinner hybrid for those who get up late after waking too early to check cat litter)
frostitute
Yes.

It was seeded jam too which was very lovely. I am slowly experiecning a sugar high though, so disregard my posts in the net few hours for they will be rambling, sugar fuelled messes.

[PS Liked the Tarintino speech - "we even beat the Bodyguard for christ's sakes!"]

She lives in America. You can't have her. She's mine. All mine. Always will be mine. Never will be yours. Mine as in Hermione, as in mine. Not yours. America wins. America. Wins. No. Not yours. Mine. She's mine. If you want her so bad, come get her. But you won't, as she is staying here. Because she's mine. Not yours.

Yeah, Emma was presenting the award. There's loads of pics on Mugglenet. Here's a linkeh. A lot of them are with the SotD crew ...

I agree - she does need a stylist.
frostitute
Why was she with them? Unsolved mysteries abound...

Doesn't stop them tarting her up on the posters.

So glad they won. Was getting mad at the fact they kept losing out to the likes of School of Rock at other awards ceremonies. This was the best British film in years and Pegg's superior acting talents should have been recognised.

I second that!!!

Brilliant news!

Also i like the pics, they are funny as well. The Empire awards are being shown tonight on 5 if i'm not mistaken.
Cornetto
It was hard to decifer Tarantino's message and Shaun of the Dead questions were not the best.
widowspider
have just started watching the empire awards...johnny vaughan was flogging a dead horse slightly with his opening joke. but he seems to be warming up a bit.
but how many shots of simon, nick and edgar were there in the opening sequence? loads, thats how many! it was great!
biggrin.gif
Chapman Baxter
I didn't know they were on tonight? [Runs to turn on television.] Have I missed the SotD bit?
widowspider

glad to see that kevin smith got the independent spirit award - richly deserved methinks.
Chapman Baxter
The camera operator really loves Simon.

And isn't Kevin Smith hilarious? He really had Quentin Tarantino going for a bit there!
ally
i missed them gettin the award for best film!

believe it or not i was de-scaling the teapot! tongue.gif well kettle to be entirely truthful
Chapman Baxter
Julie Delpy's acceptance speech was endearingly scatty.

I was wondering why Matt Damon was slumming it at the Empire Awards... best actor and best film. I suppose I ought to watch it.
Chapman Baxter
OK, so Quentin Tarantino was probably bullshitting to endear himself to the audience. But those clips remind me I have all his films on DVD - I should have a marathon viewing session one day; he made some kick-ass films.
Footbacon
mad.gif I missed it! Anybody get any screenshots?
Chapman Baxter
See up the start of the thread for a few. smile.gif
WiseJoeyD
I'll, like a sad bastard, leap tot he rescue and show you some..in about 5 mins when I format them properly...damn anamorphic!!!
Footbacon
Oh yeah wacko.gif

I tend to do that with books too...
WiseJoeyD
Right, well out of about 20 screen grabs here's a few to give you an idea!

Wife Of Rolex
Good show, I thought. But what a bastard Mathew Vaughn is. Not only does he win Best British Director rather than Edgar but he also doesn't bloody turn up, which meant Channel 5 only showed his missus going to the stage to get his award and not show the montage of nominees. Edgar was overlooked twice over.

Why I oughta...!
