Right so it was one of my favourite programs that was shown at a Sunday lunchtime. I love it, and have just bought it off ebay (finally) along with Fist of Fun.
It is one of those tradgies (sp) it was never realised on DVD, and has some of the most quotable lines ever.
So please add why you love it hate it, favourite Lee and Herring quotes and other gubbins. It'll keep me happy.

I think I mustve fancied them both at some point... Despite Stew coming from Solihull he has one helluva sexy accent. When did a Brummie accent become desireable? I once accquired one from being in close proximity to someone from Sutton Coldfield but it's gone now.

Edit: My spelling was atrocious-it's so late and yet I am still up and vaguely compus mentus. Meh.

Ah, I always remembered TMWRNJ as the poor relation of Fist of Fun but the fact that my jaw muscles are aching from trying desperately not to piss myself laughing at these quotes suggests my memory's playing tricks on me.
I loved the Ironic Review - surely a predecessor for Nathan Barley?
My friend got me Stewart Lee's autograph for my birthday. It says: "Amy, You fool. You missed it [ie, his tour] and I have only two hours to live. Kings of Wessex 4 EVA". I heart him still.

Fancied Stew in the 90s, but after regularly reading Rich's website, one cannot resist, really.
I was watching Fist of fun (I think) the other night and rediscovered one of my favourite sketches; Stewart is seeing a little white fluffy kitten in secret, but the little girl across the road wants it back.

I should probably have called the thread Lee and Herring or something but I found it funny that people either wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about or would say tmwrnj as a word in their head. Repetition makes it funnier.

I saw This Morning with Richard not Judy and vaguely remember Fist of Fun.
I really don't know why I don't like him. From what I remember his work doesn't seem that much different from Avid Merrion - lazy cock jokes and piss takes out of people, but I think Avid's funny - probably because of the clueless, pervert persona. Stewart just comes across as a smary student to me. Meh.

Oh, fair enough then.
I suppose there must be people though who think of him, if at all, as just the bloke who did the Jerry Springer Opera. How unfortunate.
Obuggrit
Mar 18 2005, 06:24 PM
Yeah, the whole Jerry nonsense is going to stick to him for a while. I have nothing against Christians in general, but those arseholes who protest against crap like Jerry Springer are sanctimonious arses :/ I'm surprised they haven't revolted against the Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama and all that.
That whole hospital blackmail thing makes me sick. If they don't want to look like hypocrites they should stop anyone from donating money - I mean, we've all sinned haven't we. This should be on that other thread really, sorry.

Stella MM
Mar 18 2005, 06:50 PM
By 'either of them' do you mean Lee and Herring or Lee and the fat bloke who played a nappy-wearing Jesus?

I've seen Lee & Herring live (they played my school hall) and I saw Stewart do some solo stuff in 1998 or so. I wasn't much impressed with the solo show, though to be fair it was a Edinburgh warm-up and most of the material was completely new and unrehearsed. He had a distinctly uncomfortable routine about his dead grandad that was too much pain and not enough comedy. I think his smug sarcasm needs Richard's childish humour to really shine.
Obuggrit, I see what you mean about Stewart being smarmy. He is. But he's also very clever in a way that Leigh Francis really isn't.

heheh! I think you might need to rewatch the shows a bit. I don't think all that much of their output was made up of crude sex jokes.
They had a lot of interesting things to say about religion and politics, and as I pointed out earlier, fluffy little kitties.
