Has anyone tried watching the film at 8x slo-mo? I've watched the entire film like this (not in one go though!) and it really adds a new dimention to it. The emotional scenes especially have a new power at this speed, particularly Shaun hitting Ed outside The Winchester. Nick's reaction is extra heartbreaking! The action scenes, too, seem to take on a hightened realisim. Also you can see certain edit points that you can't see at normal speed, like when Pete goes for Ed and Shaun goes to stop him. I didn't know it was...ahh, maybe I shouldn't spoil that if you haven't noticed. It's not amazing but it's one of those things you just don't clock while watching the scene.
If you're gonna try it you have to watch the whole film from start to finish over a few days (or you could try in one go if you're inclined) and watch every moment. It doesn't work with the same effect if you just pick out certain scenes. There's no sound obviously but that kind of adds to it and heightens the senses as you watch what you thought was familar. I remembered seeing Douglas Gordon's winning Turner Prize entry at The Tate in 1996, which included a film slowed down to last 24 hours, and I wondered how SotD would look at a much slower pace.
It's worth checking out for the subversive artistic visual yet comforting mindfuck it leaves you with as you watch!

You know, I'm going to try an experiment, Mrs. Rolex... I'm going to skip to the end -- well, to the Alamo scene, anyway -- and slow it down to 8x, and watch it with Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings playing in the background.

Or how about that song on Classic FM Disc 2 where a person softly sings "totu" (which I can only hope isn't a refernce to fauz-lesbanians from Russia) and it goes on for 10 minutes.
By the way, why does classical music last SO long?! Haven't they heard of ADHD?! Most of the ocmposers seem to have had it or some other unique malady anyway!
It's nice music to go to sleep to...and wake up with an increased IQ and finding all your hats don't fit your enormous head

No, you have to watch it from start to finish to get the full effect. If you just watch one scene you lose the journey to it.
Maybe I'm just being arty farty but it's a whole new experience to watch it from the beginning and go through the whole film in order to the end. It hits you on a whole new level. That or I just have freakish patience!

Slow motion watching benefits the complete thumping Shaun gives Ed in the car.
It looks like the last Matrix fight or something!
Stick on something percussion heavy with brass and it'll really add to it! Had something on that complimented it amazingly but, being on random, it skipped off leaving me to only wonder what the track was; it was such a perfect fit!

I've gone quite Brian over this, though. Possibly even Vulva! I've watched it so many times, more than any other film, and know it inside out but watching it 8x slow - all of it - it felt like I was watching it new again. There's just something so visual and warming about watching it at that speed. Every expression explodes, every bit of movement hits you afresh and time forgets itself as you watch the characters fall through their universe in a way we can't see our own.
Fucking 'ell I do come out with some crap, but at least I mean it!!

Unfortunately, I can't watch it 8x slow, but I can do 1/2 speed. Besides, at 8x slow-mo, wouldn't it take 13.2 hours?

Thus it's technically in real time!
Though only in running length!

Well it says 8x slow on my dvd player (the slowest it will go) but I'm not sure how accurate that is. But that's why I watched it over a few days. I guess if you want the full artisic experience you could have a go at watching it all together.
WiseJoeyD - Oh yeah! I didn't think of that meself!

I dont think ill ever get that bored, to watch something that slow. Ever.
Besides i get bored watching Shaun Of The Dead at normal speed, i want the good bits to come faster, it'd be mind numbing to watch all of it painfully slow.

You could do things to entertain yourself..like taking shots of vodka and red bull when you see someone blinking

I think it's more to do with my personality disorder than anything else. I live at a much slower pace to most people so I have unbelivable patience. I wouldn't expect everyone to take it on board in the same way I have. Maybe you need to be a bit weird (or wired as my sister calls me!) to do it in the first place.

I'd love to get it on 35mm and watch it frame-by-frame like that. I've tried it with my copy of the trailer, before. Man, those things are hard to wind back up!
