I left out the Star Wars films to give a more balanced vote, and just went for the classic films that epitomised the decade.
Whaddya think?

Where's Indy?

Out of that list, I chose Ferris... although you missed all of Tim Burton's stuff!
Zoe
Mar 23 2005, 01:21 PM
A limited selection. It was between Ghostbusters and BTTF but my love of MJF in the 1980s left me only one option in the end.

Airplane! I always pick the wrong week to give up smoking/sniffing glue/amphetamines.

Mar 23 2005, 01:28 PM
Damn, forgot Indy. Knew I'd forget a good one!
I had to be a bit selective, as there were so many classic films made in that decade. Went for ones that were very distinctively 80s, set in the time and all that.
Raven
Mar 23 2005, 01:29 PM
Had to go for Ghostbusters as it has the best lines, but BTTF and Ferris Bueller are both up there as well!
Top film of the 80's though has to be Empire

Cameron: "....i'm dying"
Ferris: "you're not dying you just can't think of anything good to do."

Where's Trading Places?

I wouldn't say that any of those are classics, in fact some are downright pap, but Ferris is a cracking little flick.

*tuts* honestly, you lot are a picky bunch, aren't you?
Zoe

Teenwolf Too?
Dirty Dancing?
Not that picky...

Mar 23 2005, 02:21 PM
Oooooph!!!! That's a tricky one.
I'm plumping for Back to the Future, although honourable mentions should go to the previously noted Indiana Jones as well as the sensational Weekend At Bernies, the magnificent Big and the frankly awesome Young Sherlock Holmes and the Pyramid of Fear.
Don't let the stained glass window come to life!!!!

Bollocks.

There's bound to be loads of "wheres". Little confused by the inclusion of Teen Wolf Too though.
Off the list I'll go for Ferris..though my real favourite is The Thing
Zoe

I'd rather see T'he Breakfast Club' or 'Pretty in Pink' get a spot over Teen Wolf Too.

That's the tough thing when coming up with "Best of"... you can't please everyone all the time.
I, personally, would have included Red Dawn, which is one of my all time fave movies!

I went for Airplane - my logic being if I could only ever watch one of those again, it would be that one. Ghostbusters was a close second, then BTTF.

Oh Jesus, Ghostbusters or Back To The Future? Don't make me choose.
Starscream`s Ghost

Well, I chose, and went with Ghostbusters. Still one of the funniest films ever made, even after 21 years.

How do you change a vote? Is it possible? I meant to click Ferris but I was singing and clicked Teenwolf by accident. And now I'm thinking I probably would have voted for BTTF anyway. I'm rubbish, I know.

Well, personally, my favourite film of the 80s is Brazil...
But I would also make the case for Blade Runner.

I thought Brazil was early 90s...amazing film, although it made my head all messed up after the first time I saw it!

No, it was 1985. Right in the middle of the decade.

As I said at the beginning of the thread, I left out Empire and Jedi to get a more balanced poll. Plus, I was curious as to people's favourite films that were set specifically in and about the 80s. Hence the films I picked.
Svein
Mar 23 2005, 04:35 PM
Then where is that ultimate 80s movie... 16 Candles or Pretty in Pink or Working Girl!

Though I dearly love Ghostbusters, I chose ET. It was a very difficult decision, but ET will always be the sentimental favourite for me. Geez, even thinking about it makes me misty.
Plus, it's got one of my favourite scores of any film in history.

-Ghostbusters
-Other
And I'd still expect Ghostbusters to win

Ah, I see the mistake you've made there. Those are films that came out in the 80s, not 80s films. There is a difference.
And Aliens is shit.
