Star Wars, original not messed around with Trilogy, mind.
From the logical standpoint of if they hadn`t been made, LOTR might never have been made. Trilogies weren`t cool before Star Wars.

No contest!
Although Lord of the Rings was a great achievement in film-making, it isn't, and will never be as important as Star Wars.

As much as I love LOTR, I would not have even been into Sci-Fi/Fantasy if it hadn't been for SW!

It has to be Star Wars (sorry Legolas but Han had my heart first).

Orlando is an OK actor, but he's got no range... at least in what I saw him in. That's why he was fine for Legolas. Legolas has no depth either!

Lord of the Rings.
It absolutely stunned me as a film and as an acheivement in filmaking. Probably the way that Star Wars did to most other people. But I was never stunned by Star Wars, I saw it when I was in my late teens, didn't seem like a big deal to be honest. Whereas LOTR was, to me at least.

Seen it, didn`t think much to it...
He`s still great as Han Solo, mind. He`s part of the club that Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro belong to...they basically play extensions of themselves in films, doesn`t make me like them any less, they`re just not the greatest actors in the world.
Star Wars rocks.

The Academy thought Jamie Foxx was a good actor. They also never gave LOTR the recognition it deserved until the final film.
The Academy know shit.

Take away the Lord of the Rings films, and you're left with the superior books. The same cannot be said for Star Wars!

The Lord Of The Polls.
Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars as much as the next geek, but LOTR wins it for me... just.
Overall, I feel that... actually no, damn it, I don't have to justify myself.

In a move that may surprise some . . . Lord of the Rings.
It's a better story, it's more consistant throughout and it has a better cast.
If Jedi had been a better film the Star Wars trilogy may have won out, but it isn't so it didn't.
Empire is still the best individual film of the six though . . .

I've read that through several times and it may be the lateness of the hour (or the beer I've drunk tonight) but that makes no sense to me at all . . .
Take away the LotR films and you have a great set of book, take away the Star Wars films and you're left with, err, nothing . . .
I'm missing something aren't I?!

Difficult. I'd rather watch Empire than any LOTR flick, but I'd rather sit through all three Rings than all three Wars. I'll exercise my right not to vote.

Hmmm. I suppose what I mean is that, great though they are, the LotR films are a stripped-down, repackaged, and ultimately thinner and less satisfying version of the books, while the Star Wars films are original and thoroughly cinematic in conception. If that makes any more sense.

Yes but I have read many of the Star Wars books - the films are superior. However the 'expanded universe' ie. extra stories outside the realm of the films are brilliant. I would actually go so far as to say I enjoyed "The Jedi Academy" trilogy far more than the Simarillion or the Hobbit.

Lord of the Rings..but first I'd like to clear up something that I have found bizarre..
..LOTR's was written many decades before Star Wars had been filmed or was even a concept, it was a trilogy looong before Star wars was first thought of..I firmly believe that if Star Wars had never of been filmed (don't faint Star Wars fans out there) they would of still done the LOTR's films as there was a cult of fans long before Star Wars arrived on the scene..How can LOTR's be copying Star Wars on the trilogy thing when LOTR's was a trilogy before Star Wars even existed????..
I like Star Wars too er except episodes I and II, cause they were utter shite but I think the LOTR's has a much better storyline and is a bit more in depth than Star wars and when I watched the films they were exactly how I imagined it all to look when I read the books years back

LotRs.
And I'll tell you why.
To me Star Wars has always felt like LotRs just set in space. The characters can all be traced back to thier doppleganger.
Gandalf = Ben
Sauron = The Emperor
Boromir = Lando
Frodo = Luke
Aragorn = Han
Eowyn = Leia
etc...
I love both of them. LotRs was just there first. - And Jackson hasn't gone back and fucked with it the original the point the Lucas has.
What has nature taught us about changing a good thing?
Well take Michael Jackson as a perfect example. he used to be black.
