higher than "Dawn of the Dead"..?

It's voted on by users of that website. A bigger travesty is that the Dawn remake even made it onto the list!

Yay, Shaun of the Dead got to 81! ...
The Others got to 74? You've got to be kidding me! That was so not scary!
And the Dawn of the Dead remake got to 27??? What is up with the world? That was actully less scary than The Others!!

But on the bright side, both Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead made it into the top 10! And of course SOTD is in there, which is nice. Good to see 28 Days Later get into the chart as well

Top 10 for The Thing and Halloween so I'm well chuffed about that, but where the bloody hell was Invasion Of The Body Snatchers?

Did any of the Chucky films make the list, now THOSE were some shit scary films, there's just something horrible about puppets that provokes a natural fear in people. or at least thats what i've found, i also felt the same about that puppet in the first series of Buffy who turned out to be the good guy.

I'd go for horror, it's certainly less difficult to define than Alien or Aliens which really could be either.

Yeah, but is that really a horror film? It's a really good film, sure, but aren't horror films supposed to be frightening?
I think that list is rubbish anyway. Bubba Ho-Tepp and Shaun of the Dead are comedies, Cronenberg's re-make of The Fly shits on the original and it's not even featured here, Seven's not a horror flick, and Audition isn't even in the list. Rubbish.
Good to see The Fog in their somewhere, though...

I agree , it would have been great to have seen Audition in there...but it as much a horror film as Wicker Man...the horror element in both only really kicks in at the end.

No. Horror films should instill horror into you. Being burned alive in a pagen-type ritual by an entire island of crazed people is pretty horrible to me.
Horror films don't have to be scary or frightening....well maybe frightening, but that's objective anyway. Things don't have to jump out & scare you in a horror film, but it should chill your blood.

That's exactly the point I was hoping someone would make, rabbit. Granted, it's not so loose that, say, Kazaam could make the list, but I would certainly allow for something along the lines of Silence of the Lambs on the list. Lord knows it's creepier than Child's Play 3.

Pfft. Exorcist. Not scary. Funny, not scary.
What`s scary is that they think Silence of the Lambs is a horror film.

I don't call it a "horror" film by the usual genre definition, but it definitely fits the bill, in my opinion. It can inspire fear, and squeamishenss, and very strong uneasiness, which is what good horror is supposed to do. If you limit it simply to things involving deformed supernatural freaks running around slashing people in a variety of creative ways, you're going to run out of ideas very fast, except perhaps what size drill bit to use.

Was 'The Others' even a horror?
I thought it mainly revolved around painting small children white and having them leave clues as to whether or not they are ghosts.
By the way, has anybody here seen Bubba Ho tep? And is it good? Because it's a really good idea whose outcome would depend entirely on it's execution.

I think you could class it as psychological horror. Kinda like the Ring. (The original, not the overblown Hollywood Watts-ruined-it-trying-to get-a-Sixth-Sense-creepy-kid crap effort. I`m not bitter.)

OK I don't think you could really count this as a horror movie (but it scared the Dickens outta me when I was a wee girl), but I just wondered if anybody else remembers the 50's version of "Invaders from Mars"- I think it was called anyway. I'd really like to get that one on DVD! Ooooh. *shivers down me spine*

No. 1 would probably be The Grudge or something.
Or Radiohead.
Just another quick thought. No. 1 would be The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror 13 or something.

It`s the bit at the end, where he runs into traffic, warning people about the invaders, and they either think he`s a crank, or have already been turned.
That sense of paranoia and hopelessness just does it for me.
