My friend just sent me this:

Polysics - Black Out Fall Out

It's now one of my favourite videos.
Kick in the Head
Black Out Fall Out one's good, but my favourite Polysics video would probably be for their cover of Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto. YouTube's being pissy at the moment, so can't post a link, but trust me, it's there, and worth seeking out.

Adam Buxton and Garth Jennings have done a few videos for Radiohead's In Rainbows album. Videos plus background on the project can be found on this post from Adam's blog. Love the riff on the Se7en ending for the last one.

The Young Knives - Terra Firma

Continuing their run of stylish videos, catchy hooks and non-sensical lyrics. The House of Lords has the best silhouette since Hitchcock.

I love this song, this video, this woman.

Is it just me, or does Amy Winehouse's new video seem like it's been made in the anticipation that she will soon vacate this mortal coil:

Love Is A Losing Game

The choice of clips, the fades and the way they combine with the music all seem fairly similar to the sort of videos that are made as tributes to artists once they die. The final shot in particular looks like it's got a space ready for ''We Miss You, Amy'', or words to that effect to be dropped in.

For a comparison, just look at the video for Nirvana's ''You Know You're Right'', which utilises pretty similar, though much brasher, techniques.

Well... I may as well share both of these...

Torn Asunder - Love to Look at You

Interpretation of Pantera's "Fucking Hostile" called "Fucking Hoffstyle"

You can always depend on Bjork and Michel Gondry to create something interesting:

Is it too late to get into Nick Cave? I am mighty tempted to buy the new album (plus Grinderman) and systematically work my way backwards as I feel like I'm missing out big time. Apart from Red Right Hand and The Assassination of Jesse James By The Corward Robert Ford score, I'm a total novice...but it looks like it could be fun pursuing it.

It's never too late. If you want to skip a few as you work backwards I would highly recommend ''The Boatman's Call'', ''Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus'' and ''Murder Ballads'', all of which are really wonderful albums.
Sostie
The "Best Of" is a good starting point. Gives an idea of which Cave period might appeal to you the most. Post "Best Of" ''Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus'' is a good starting point. Also The B-Sides Collection is as good as any other acts' Best of Collections

Might be a good idea to get a discography and check the tracks out on You Tube.
Kick in the Head
I think my flatmate has the best of collection in his vast hoard of CDs, so I'll give it a whizz this weekend. But I'll certainly take your recommendations on board.

Here's something by a German artist.

ATTENTION THE CONTENT OF THIS VIDEO COULD BE OFFENSIVE FOR SOME PEOPLE!!!

It's nothing really disturbing, but if you don't like to watch, what's in a butcher's store, you shouldn't click on the link.

Get Well Soon - Automatic Heart

I've loved this song for a while.

I finally looked up the video and this is not how I expected Yoav to look.

He looks like Chris Sarandon.

Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped.

On Thursday, I attended BUG 05 at the BFI hosted by Adam Buxton, which had a bunch of great music videos, mostly from bands I'd never heard of, but now consider myself a fan of. And most you'd never see on MTV. So, here's my pick of the bunch, and I recommend you view them all!

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Sun Lips

Eastern Conference Champions -The Box

PJ Harvey - The Piano (kinda NSFW)

Moros Eros - On My Side

zZz - Grip

My Robot Friend - Robot High School

Group Sounds - Temporarily in Love (very NSFW!!!)

And something else not from BUG, but still nice all the same...
Zongamin - Azzazza

Forget it, I found it.

This was what I was looking for - not seen it in years!
Sostie
My favourite live band ever, The Godfathers, are reforming on Thursday and I am more excited than an excited thing on National Excited Day.

Been looking at their old stuff on YouTube and found this gem by their previous incarnation The Sid Presley Experience
Sir_Robin_the_brave
The Go! Team - Keys to the City

Kind of a mix of music video and live performance. Cool though.

France Gall - Les Suchettes

An innocent 60's French pop song about a girl who likes lolipops! Except it was written by that sex mad rogue Serge Gainsbourg. If you couldn't already tell by the video, it's a song about gobbling! Gall thought it was a nice kiddies song about sweeties. Dirty Serge.

Never seen that video before - and I've never seen lollipops shaped like that before!

By freakish coincidence I did stumble across our very own Ade being mentioned on a Jean Michel Jarre page last night being credited as keyboard player for a gig.

He must have his own TARDIS and travel through time and space to play keyboards in the quest for rock.

He is...The Rocktor

It would explain the plethora of lookalikes. They're actually all him!

He'd be good in the dance off.

Not exactly a pop video but I'm feeling a bit nostalgic tonight.

Two hot babes + a teen hero + a soul classic = one of my fave scenes from one of my fave films

Guilty as charged. God, there are moments of that gig that haunt me still, not least of all the Brummie 'compere' mangling mine and my brother's surname, twice. Despite a few bum notes, and a technical glitch here and there, we did pretty well. We certainly weren't as bad as the debacle of a 'tribute band' at the previous year's Brum convention.

Funnily enough, for that very gig I was using an identical synth to the one utilised by the Finnish maestro in the YouTube link above.

Such a shame it cuts off before the fantastic put down!

This scene made me go out and buy Otis Redding records, something I've been grateful for ever since.
Sostie
Southland Tales may be a bit of a mess but it does feature this Justin Timberlake/Killers sequence which I love.

"it's called a sense of humor. You should get one. They're nice."

Love it.

So, in keeping with nostalgia and Molly Ringwald ...

Is wrong that I want this song played at my (imaginary) wedding?

That is hilarious. YOu know, I remember when I watched Buffy thinking, "that guy looks familiar." I've seen this video a hundred times.

I like the version when he is int hat weird sort of wine gums house

A classic that's always worth re-watching. How many artists would put this effort in now, just for a video?

You can keep your Jay-Zs, Verves and Leons. This was without a doubt the best Glastonbury moment I saw on TV. Class.

Found this on YouTube. Therapy? might mean something to a few and Mega City Four something to less. But this was Andy Cairns tribute to MC4s frontman Wiz who died last year. An acoustic version of Mega City Four's "Miles Apart".

Made me go all teary.

I seem to be watching lots of MTV this week and here's today's newly discovered gem.

Off to see Cornelius on Sunday (lucky me), but this is a great performance of Count Five or Six on a wacky American kids TV show. Who knew numeracy could be such fun?
