Raven
Well, I say new, it's episodes that have been released previously in a "best of" release.

More information can be found here: The Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection.

And you can buy it here: Futurama - Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection at Play.com.

Will the extras make this worth buying? huh.gif
PrincessKate
I have the same problem with the Family Guy 'Freakin' Sweet' collection...
maian
Aren't the extras pretty much the same as what you get on the other boxsets? Or would they be new commentaries etc?
Raven
I would imagine they are the same, but the intros would be new, as some of the other material may be as well (will have to check into that a bit further).

May just wait until it pops up in a sale.

Nice to see Fox flogging the dead horse for all they can get out of it though . . . wink.gif
AusChick
I've found the extras for most animated shows tend not to be very exciting.
The commentaries for Futurama are pretty good though.
But we already have all four series of Futurama and they all have commentaries already, so I don't think I'll be buying the new DVD

Cheers

kiss my empty bag
I was watching futrama yesterday and was wondering are they still making it coz I heard it got cancelled.
My cousin told me this, it made me laugh they had to stop making it coz it was making too much money? lol biggrin.gif its been niggling my brain
Ingram

Is that the one where Fry is playing Sapce Invaders for real? If so I think that is Anthology of Interest 2, so no!
romero_zombie
Yea its the one with space invaders....Damn that episode was great.
Raven
Series three box set if you want it!

All the Futurama DVDs at Play.com.
Raven
If anyone is thinking of buying any of the box sets (something I would recommend!) then I would suggest looking eslewehere, or waiting until a sale comes up, as the box sets have been available from several places for ~£14.99 each and as part of a two for the price of one offer in recent months.

Can't Get Enough Futurama reports that

QUOTE
there is renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD. We corroborated this with other sources close to the show before publishing the information.

The talk is of course still in a preliminary stage. Options reported to us include one or more Futurama movies in case of a go-ahead.

Even though Futurama is not sure to return and the likelihood of its return is currently unknown, this is the first time in the past few years that we have heard of Futurama being discussed at the upper levels of FOX. They'll likely have a good look at the sales of the upcoming Futurama Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection.

This might be a good reason to pick up the new DVD even if you have the episodes from the boxed sets. (Of course, Fox might have started the rumours to encourage us to do just that.)

I'm almost positive Fox only give a fuck about domestic sales, not international. Futurama was at one point the second highest rated show on Sky One after The Simpsons, something that had no impact whatsoever on their decision to axe it. Family Guy DVDs never really sold very well over here did they?

-edit-
I notice that they've put The Sting on it, one of the shittest episodes of the entire run. What are they thinking?
For new extras though I'll buy it. I'm a loser and it's my favourite TV program ever in the history of telly. Ever.

I understand that The Sting is very popular among the fans, but I've never really liked it much either. Instead I would have added an episode like Xmas Story, Hermes Requisitions His Groove Back ('Do a back flip!') or The Problem with Popplers ('You can't, like, own property, man.' 'I can. That's because I'm not a smell hippy.').
spacegurl
I 'm suprised at the episodes the've chosen but i guess everyone has their favourites. I'm shocked The Farnsworth Parabox isn't on there though- that's one of the best. huh.gif

Billy West has apparently dropped this little nugget on his message board confirming the talk at FOX:
QUOTE (Billy West)
Well, I spoke to David X.Cohen because we did promos for a new Futurama compilation and he said that they did have talks with the top guys at FOX and they were extremely impressed with the sales of the Futurama DVDs. The idea was to make a Futurama movie right to DVD and then a 2nd and a 3rd. That's what's being discussed. Fox is trying to figure out a budget for the whole project, and it sounded like David X. was very jazzed!

I would love more than anything to do that show again. I thought it was best experience on every level... creatively, voice-wise, writing, animation and the laughs. The laughs. Writers and performers that respected each other.

Heh. "Jazzed"

Cheers for the tip off Whitey!

I never understood why Groening doesn't just front the money himself. Expensive for a TV show but cheap for a feature, that's what they always said. He can afford it and reap the DVD sale benefits all to himself.
Ingram
If anyone has shopped around for the season boxsets and knows of some good online places, please give me a heads up. I'm looking to get the lot in one go, if I get the funds together.

Sendit's offering them for £13.99 each, which is a pretty damn good deal.
whitey
sendit.com have got em for 14 quid a pop and Play are doing them for 16. HMV might still be doing their buy one get one free thing in the shops (20 for two) but they aren't online.
Raven
I think Play has them for ~£15.00 each at the moment as well . . .
maian
I really hope that a Futurama film or two will get made, I love Futurama and the possibility of more Zoidberg is just two good to be true. This would be so great for all the Futurama fans out there, and i'm quite surprised to see that the Futurama DVDs did sell well, i know that Family Guy did but I've never heard much about Futurama sales.
fatseff1234
we should get a petition going.

there NEEDS to be more futurama.

lol had this conversation before but now if theyre thinking about it then another one may work anda petition just for a film instead of a new series.
Zoe
I know at least two people who cite 'The Sting' as their favorite episode.

Mine's 'The Luck of the Fryrish' - gets me every single time.

The two 'Anthologies of intrest" are some of my favourite episodes.

"You should of shot at where I was going, not where I was."

Yeah the little space invaders scene is ace.

i like The Sting, but its not my faveroute episode ever. Loves Labours Lost In Space is just pure class, its also the first episode with legendary captain Zapp Brannigan. I only like The Sting because it shows how much Leela really does care about Fry.

I love "war is the H word", the robot doctor who's like Hawkeye from MASH is inspired

I love 'The Farnsworth Parabox', just for the bit where they go hopping through all the different parallel universes. And gold Bender is genius.

QUOTE (John DiMaggio)
Actually, I was at the 350th episode of The Simpsons party over at FOX and ran into David X. Cohen and Matt. And David said "Yeah, we're gonna do some straight to DVD movies." I said "all right, well, when I hear Matt say it I'll know." Then I said "Matt, what's up? Give me the straight stuff." And he said "Yeah". So basically, I think what they're gonna do is they're gonna ... do straight to DVD movies that'll be on the air quality. And if FOX wants to put them on, Matt will be like "Guys, put'em on." Looks like we're gonna do it. I haven't heard anything contract-wise or anything like that. So ... anything can happen. But once I sign my name on the dotted line, I'll be singing in the streets.

At this point I think I'll probably kill myself, and take a few folks with me if this doesn't happen.
Silky
Being at work I can't recall the name of the episode, but the one where they all get younger and younger untill they have to be taken to the pool of aging.

"With my last breath, I curse Zoidberg!"
whitey
That would be Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles.
I think Parasites Lost is my all-time favourite.
Hobbes
Oh, Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles is ace, but I'm also with seff, Love's Labour's Lost in space is excellent.
"I knew you'd come crawling back for another taste of sweet sweet candy....bam."
"I did manage to score with a hot alien babe, and isn't that what man has dreamt of since man first looked up at the stars? Kif, I'm asking you a question."

That said, I do quite like the first episode, Space Pilot 3000. I just love the professor in that first one.
Prof. Farnsworth:"You really are my uncle"
Bender: "That's great. Can we have some money?"
Prof. Farnsworth: "Oh my no."

The way he says that final line always cracks me up. Gee-nee-us.
shinyelvenqueen
I've just been to HMV to spot the Futurama dvd's and they've put the prices back up! Am so annoyed. they used to be £20 per season and now they're 39.99. Balls.

i like three hundred big boys (probably said that before on here)

"The Loot! The Loot! The loot is on fire!"

"This isn't Yemeni! It's Suluwaizi! And my cup's shakin! I don't want my coffee shakin!"

If there is I'll be sure to post it. There isn't. Unless you count what's already been posted as news. One was only four days ago, I think that still counts.

From 'Amazon Women In The Mood'

"We no can dunk, but good fundamentals. That more fun to watch."
"Oh God, you're killing me! Oh GOD! You're killing me!"
<sexist male laughter>

"Is she hot?"
"That not important! She all knowing!"
"In other words, no."
<sexist male laughter>

"Did you explain how the women's good fundamentals make up for their inability to dunk?"
"Yes, the men still laughed."
"The men must die!"
Sean of the Dead
How do you spell "Schnoo schnoo" correctly?
