QUOTE ("IGN")
In the first of IGN's exclusive Video Blogs direct from San Diego's Comic-Con International, voice actor Billy West (Fry, Zoidberg, the Professor, and many more voices for many more shows) revealed to us that a brand-new direct-to-video Futurama movie has been greenlit. Not only that, but there is also an option for a second movie as well.
From
IGN. Don't get excited though. At the moment there are conflicting reports. Some say that David X Cohen has openly stated that the project isn't that far along yet (which is believable, a greenlight usually comes after a screenplay) but Matt Groening has been unoficially reported as confirming West's comments at a Comic Con signing. In any event I reckon it's safe to say that somebody somewhere is currently writing new Futurama. And I am 'jazzed' about it.

I share your sense of jazziness on this issue Whitey, Futurama was cut down much too early in it's life and these movies may get it reinstated if they sell enough (it's a long shot but Fox only care about money so it's a possibility) and hopefully the plot will be a new one since they managed to sort-of resolve many of the plotlines with 'The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings'.
As Dr Z. would say ''Hurray!''

Indeedy. There was rumour of a plot line but it was submitted and was actually fake.

Unfortunately, this is essentially a
prank. We're hoping a made-for-DVD project may get off the ground at some point, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
I'm merging this with the existing Futurama thread.

I'm unclear on this, do you think the link you have posted is saying that the plot is bumkum - but the DVD is on - or it's all bumkum?
It looks to be the former to me, although I'm not sure (and I know David "X" Cohan has been talking up a movie lately . . .).
More Futurama must be a good thing though!

The latest credible statement I've come across on this subject is from
John DiMaggio (Bender), who says '
Looks like we're gonna do it. I haven't heard anything contract-wise or anything like that. So ... anything can happen. But once I sign my name on the dotted line, I'll be singing in the streets.' As far as I can tell the DVD looks like a strong possibility but has yet to be confirmed. As you say, David Cohen has also been talking up the movie, but he's been careful to avoid saying it's definitely going ahead.
I'm going to treat the IMdB entry as speculative until I hear corroborating evidence from someone connected with the show.

In Futurama series 3 episode 6, Bendless Love, Bender Immitates Flexo by wearing a magnetic goatee. Should this not have set off his Inhibition Chip and made him start spewing country and western music like other magnets in the series

It's to do with the way Fox aired the show, which is explained briefly in the article. Fox messed around with the scheduling so that the seasons were kind of split oddly and there were huge gaps between when they were aired, s o even though 4 were made there were '5' seasons that were shown on TV.

If you listen to the commentaries on the DVDs they make references to the air dates of each episode and what "season" Fox labeled them with - rest assured though, they've only make four seasons.

My only regret is I have... Boneitis...
I love Futurama so much. Finally got round to buying the DVD's (all 4 seasons in the snazzy blue box) with my Chrismas money. Watched seasons 1-3 through in a week. So many great lines, and some of the references to things are very subtle.
I'm really looking forward to these movies, if/when (and it certainly looks like a "when" now) they come out.

Yeah, what was that about?
I have faith in this project, I'm thinking more South Park than Family Guy in terms of quality - then again as they're not designed for cinematic release who knows. Straight to DVD can be an excuse for laziness. 'Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story' watched like a cynical money making exercise, I hope this doesn't.

Well "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" was essentially three episodes written back to back and "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut" was a feature-length episode punctuated by songs. I think this project should be wholly different from both and end up, by comparison, to be most like the latter in terms of quality and without the musical element.

I took the shit Family Guy script as a sign that the show just wasn't funny any more (was I wrong? I haven't seen it for while). I do have faith in David X Cohen to not let anything other than the highest quality get by. I hope he doesn't prove me wrong.

Like I said "in terms of quality", I don't think it's going to be 'like' the South Park movie.
The Family Guy movie was worse than three episodes back to back as it had a dull and uninspiring narrative throughout the entire running time. Watching three episodes back to back would be a far more enjoyable experience.
