So you join the mothers
You could have played the blues with John Mayall or far out exciting Jazz like Blood Sweat and Tears but you go and work for Zappa and he makes you be a creep.
In this business you've either got to play the blues, or sing in a high voice...

Who else is into this stuff?

Never got further into Zappa wacko.gif than Bobby Brown. But man what a song!

Yeah, got quite a lot of Zappa's albums meself.

He's a bit of an oddity, there's no doubt about it,
but I particularly enjoy his live material, primarily
'Broadway The Hard Way' and 'The Best Band You
Never Heard In Your Life' (both recorded during
his 1988 World Tour), which are fantastic live documents,
as well as excellent albums in their own right.
Absolutely hilarious on stage, the segments where he
banters with/to the audience are especially entertaining.

The guy was a prominent social speaker, his biting
satire fairly evident on record. He even ran for public
office during the Presidential Election campign of 1988!

So many amazing tracks to recommend to folks, but they
tend to be littered across numerous mediocre albums,
although 'Joe's Garage' (almost compulsory), 'One Size Fits All'
'Tinseltown Rebellion' and 'Apostrophe' number among his
best albums in my opinion.

Best starting point for anyone intrigued enough to want to
dip theiur toes in the murky water of music a la Zappa,
would be 'Strictly Commercial', released in 1995.

Highly underrated and overlooked, occasionally unlistenable
(it HAS to be said), but never short of entertaining when he
is on the ball.

Zappa Rules!

Well said and spot on. Can't say I can listen to some of his stuff, but then doing a lot of experimental stuff, you're bound to have some crap on there. I really like the Joe's Garage album.

Catholic Girls, Why does it hurt when I pee, and of course Joes Garage

"...earlier today, the band learned how to play a reggae version of 'Ring Of Fire'!!"
"That's right, it's the same verse again! It's one way of learning English!"

My personal recommend would have to be Broadway The Hard Way:

"You take the llama, I'll take the monkey, we'll have a party - GET ME A PEPSI!"
"Michael is Janet, Janet is Michael, I'm so confused now - WHO IS DIANA?!"
"He's oxygenated! His nose is deflated! And he thinks he looks good to you..."
