Jason Lee is starring in a new NBC comedy next season. Information here. I hate 99% of all american television I have ever watched. PLEASE let this be one of those exceptions!

(Apologies if this is old news)

It's not old news, babe. And it does give one serious pause. *gulp*

In other, happier news...Arrested Development got picked up again!

Well, I feel a little better about that then.

How did this Jason Lee business slip by me?

Amen. Ethan Suplee is great too (big skinhead in American History X, 3-D Poster guy in Mallrats, etch). I have high hopes...but that means shite when it comes to network TV. rolleyes.gif

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! For once I've got what I asked for.

There's as much quality on American TV as there is on English TV (and of course as much shit on English TV as there is American).

Six Feet Under, The Simpsons, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The O.C., Futurama, Family Guy, The Sopranos, 24, Buffy, Seinfeld, The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Quantum Leap, Frasier, Northern Exposure...

I could go on.

It seems unfair to condemn Lee until we've seen the show. Just because it's on TV doesn't mean it'll be shit. After all we're all here because of a T.V. sitcom.

Phew.

I thought you were going to say he'd shaved his beard off.

See, I only enjoyed about three of those shows you listed. But of course, it's all just opinion anyway. And I haven't condemned yet, I am merely expressing my concern smile.gif Note the 'Possibly' in the devastating news. For his sake, I sincerely hope its one of those rare ones!

More Jason Lee?
This can only be good.
So long as he manages to get a few of those big, shit eating grins in. biggrin.gif
Pure 24 carrot fried fucking gold. biggrin.gif
Julie
Well, I missed the first one. But based on that, perhaps I'll give it a try.
Punkass
I posted somewhere else about it, I thought it was pretty good myself. Lee, Suplee (minus 100 pounds it almost seems), and Pressly make a pretty good white trash combo.
Zoe
Rather fantastically I haven't managed to find a bad review for this series!

The buzz is that "My Name Is Earl" is good, and the truth is that it's better than the buzz. TV's never had a character quite like Earl: naive, ignorant, without ambition and, as played by Jason Lee, impossible to dislike.

Hollywood Reporter

Blessed less with belly laughs than an amusingly wry tone, this single-camera half-hour disarmingly focuses on an underclass that seldom gets much attention in the neatly manicured world of primetime.

Variety

He's the asshole you love, the guy you want to get a shot glass worth of decency, but stay a solid gold fuck-up forever. What's so wonderful about My Name Is Earl is that it's a comedy with its heart in the right place and everything else gleefully in the gutter.

Pop Matters

It's quirky, heartwarming and a laugh-out-loud hoot, much like the Coen brothers' hilarious 1987 film Raising Arizona that starred Nicolas Cage as a bumbling loser.

Palm Beach Post

Well...nearly...

Derivative and repetitious, the comedy keeps hitting the same notes, then pounding and stomping on them. Worse, "Earl" will already seem familiar to fans of the wackily rollicking 1987 Coen brothers comedy "Raising Arizona."

Washington Post

But hey, you can't please everyone. I'm really excited that Channel 4 have bought 'Earl' and hope that this finally brings Jason Lee the mainstream success he so richly deserves.

He's still my number one:

I have only seen one episode but i like the Show "my name is Earl". See my names really is Earl and the funny thing is when my friends and I were younger we all joked around about Who would play us if there was ever a film about us and I allways said Jason Lee would play me because he kinda looks like me. Well years later he does this show about a guy named Earl.... kinda weird. usually when theres a character called Earl in a film or show its allways the ugly creepy little igor type.
Sostie
Just watched episode 1 and it was brilliant. Great Raising Arizona style intro. Lee and Jamie Pressly are oustanding. Destined to be the years funniest and most quotable US comedy show.

I thought so too. No shitty sets or canned laughter, either.

The best part of it is that I still find Jason Lee hot in it - Hurrah!
Zoe
I knew it!

When Jason's a huge mainstream star I hope he remembers I loved him first.
Punkass
I remember when I was a "wanna-be" skater back in the day, I used to keep up with him a small bit. If you can find Sonic Youth's "My Friend Goo" video, you can check him out in action.

Episode 3 airs tommorow, looking forward to it.

My Name is Earl is absolutely hilarious. Vince is consistently unimpressed with American TV and this has him falling off the sofa in hysterics. Jason Lee is a legend and the casting all round is perfect. It's set to become a comedy classic, I tells ya!
