As many of you may know, E3 is taking place and all main Game companies have revealed their next gen consoles:
For Nintendo
The Revolution

The Gameboy Micro
For Sony
The PlayStation 3
For X-Box
The X-Box 360
Well, discuss!

I read today that the Xbox 260 would be priced at £165

seems very cheap to me and hooray backwards compatability seems to have been included
Wireless controllers as standard too its getting my money anyone know the date it's gonna arrive here?.

The Game Boy Micro is just another GBA in a new tiny shell, not a next gen Game Boy. This one will be fought on price I reckon. They're all going to be taking huge losses on these consoles. Early word suggests that to turn a profit on the PS3 Sony would have to charge upwards of $400.

That Nintedo revolution looks rather fancy, although personally I've been snagged by Xbox fanboy fever and can't... seem... to... stop... wanting a 360!!! Ah, my poor little wallet will be screaming blue murder at me the week they come out.

i am looking forward to revolution, it looks really nice but one good thing about it is you can download games which were on gamecube, n64, snes and nes and play them on the revoluton straight from the internet

I'm loving the look of Revolution, small as hell (the disc is to scale in that picture) backwards compatible, internet access, DVDs, Nintendo have finally stepped up, as well as having the good games and that. I heard it'll probably be cheaper than the others, can anyone say what the estimated prices will be?
I'm a little concerned that all of the consoles look pretty much the same, they've got such a similar structure and everything, there's hardly any of the individuality that the current generation have

Personally I know I'm going to get a Revolution, it's in my Nintendo loving blood, but this time the secondary console I'll get the Xbox instead of a PS.
It seems to me that the PS3 has gone a bit Spiderman-esque, just the writing sprawled across it seems to be screaming "Spiderman's cool, so obviously I must be!". And it's definitely the ugliest of the trio.
Anyway, you're right Whitey, that red Revolution is nice.
Looking forward to Smash Bros. on the Revolution, and judging from Nintendo recently I assume it's going to be online.

http://www.majornelson.com/2005/05/20/xbox...s3-part-1-of-4/Also an interesting part of an interview with Robbie Bach:
Q: You don't consider the PlayStation Network competition? Bach: There's no PlayStation network. They talk about the fact that people can play online on PlayStation 2, but ask anybody if they think there's a network on PlayStation. There's not. The publishers have to do all the work themselves.
Q: I talked with Sony executive Kazuo Hirai, and he said they do see online gaming becoming a somewhat more centralized system with the PlayStation 3. And at their briefing this week, they put up a slide that called it the PlayStation Network. Bach: Let's put that in context. We've been writing real code and delivering a service for three years. We have 2 million subscribers. They have a slide.

Why are these X-Box folks always so defensive? Is he implying that the Japanese electronics giant lacks the resources and talent to achieve such a service?

For launch of the PS3? If they've only just started with the Playstation Network then it's time that's against them, not resources or talent. Xbox already has a tried and tested system to build on rather than some hand-wavy "this is what it'll be like" from sony.

All I'm saying is that X-Box Live isn't exactly the flawless service it's cracked up to be. Anyway I'm much more interested in what Nintendo are doing with their online stuff than either of the other fuckers, as a fanboy and everything. Mario Kart DS online. Can't wait.

I'm a playstation boy, and - if only out of a lackadaisical unwillingness to change, will probably plump for the PS3 when i decide to upgrade from the PS2 ... also backwards compatability will also be a factor in that decision.

That's possibly one of the crappest looking control pads I've ever seen.
Look at the positions of the analogue sticks! That's horrible, if I used that I think my thumbs would just give up and die on me.
Are there any analogue shoulder triggers? The only thing I can see on that pic is two digital shoulder buttons.

mainly because I've had my PS2 for about 3 years now, and it is starting to show signs "fatigue" ... so by the time I come round to buying a new console I'd rather just buy one that allows me to play my current favourites AND the new generation of games than have to buy two seperate ones. (If that makes sense?)
Also, because I can be an unimaginative bastard at times, and will probably just stick with what i know!

I agree that they do look a bit crappy ... but i'm sure they would test and test and test before committing to a design. And its not as though they are short of hardcore-gaming-volunteers in Japan is it?!
re the analogue triggers I imagine that they will be half way down the "handles" so you use your middle fingers for them and your index finger for the top digital ones
kind of like this (only round the back of course, not on the front)

a bit like the positioning of the buttons/triggers on the early Sidewinders i think (not played a PC game for ages, so my memory could be a bit dodgy there, but think they were called Sidewinders)

That didn't stop them committing to that PS2 pad... Which has exactly the same problem, the analogue sticks are in a horrible position that just kills your thumbs. Putting the sticks low down means that to push up your thumb has to move sideways...
Xbox got it half right... they at least put the left stick high up. When they were asking for feedback for the 360 pad I suggested putting the other stick higher up too.
