Down here in Australia, weird folk like myself wait all year for Eurovision.
At the time of posting this it is a whole day before we get the see the concert on TV down here, but I guess it will be on soon for you guys, if not already.

I think Greece and Norway are in with a good chance, but then, I thought Austria and Iceland would make through to the final.

I have heard that for many people in Europe it means very little, but for those who care, let's hear your thoughts.

I like Eurovison. The songs are pleasingly awful, the commentary is jingoistic and the politics of the thing is great. It's a good chance to see who likes who in the world of europolitics. The Baltics vote for each other, the Greeks vote for Cyprus but never Turkey. he Turks vote for the Germans and no-one likes the British at the moment.
Stella MM
I always think I like Eurovision and then I get massively bored halfway through and switch off. We'll see how far I get this year.
Ingram
I always have a little chuckle at Terry Wogans half-assed commentary that seems to ridicule every country including Great Britain in so many ways. I doubt I'll watch this year though, I've never actually been bothered to watch one all the way through anyway - it's sooo dull.
Zoe
We had a great time watching it last year, mainly thanks to popjustic.com's witty scorecard.

Containing categories such as 'likelihood of being born the opposite sex' and 'overall gayness of artist' and 'middle eight' it was surprisingly accurate

I think that's a bit of a stretch for "Eurovision".
Kirstie
I love Eurovision.

No, wait...

I love Terry Wogan. That's better.
Wife Of Rolex
It's trash but I can't help watch it every year. Thought our Javine did very well.

But I've just seen Malta's entry. Fuckin' 'ell!! There's a woman to make you feel better about yourself!!*

How shit was....Sweden i think it was? that guy singing that Las Vegas song- surley that was just a rehash of Donna Summer's 'On the Radio'?
Blind I/O
Surely it's all utter wank, though?

He knows how much you can live it up in Vegas...

I did actually have to check the year at that point, I was sure we were in the early 90's... then came the abba doubles...
Zoe
Nothing can beat last year's Wild Dance by Ruslana.

That was fucking legendary.

well i'm having an incredibly dull evening, and eurovision ain't helping.

but its that or ol' shakey on itv. is this why people take up smack as a hobby?

Ditto and I don't even have Eurovision. Just a bar full of drunken actors who won't go home.

Maybe I should set off the fire alarm.

Eurovision was very poor this year. The last few years have been very good but tonight was just shit. Javine should've been at least top 5 against the competition but alas, everyone hates us. Fuck you Tony Blair!! You screwed our chances in Eurovision for the next 50 years. Happy now?!!

And who the frick voted for Norway?!

And in the interest of balance, the female troupe for Switzaland's entry made me feel very inadequate.

I think it worked against her that she's not your generic big-bosomed, slutty, white, bimbo that the eurovison is accustomed to. Bastardos.... mad.gif
Stella MM
The Greek singer was fucking terrifying. By the end of the voting she looked like she'd have run amok with a carving knife if any country hadn't given them 12 points.

I wanted Moldova to win "Granny is a drum machine". What a class line, and then out comes granny!!! After the first 5 or 10 countries had voted they actually were winning as well, then it all went downhill for them. I only watched it for the boobies really though biggrin.gif

Our entry was shit. Really it was. It didn't stand out, it wasn't antything special, the performance wasn't great (Javine sounded like she was screeching the whole thing "TOUCH my FIRE can you feel the HEEEEEAT") It just got lost in a whole slew of similar sounding songs. I liked the Moldovan version of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and their nan. Wish they'd won. Or the dads of the Darkness.

And I liked how the Bosnian entry had taken the more popular elements of Abba and triplicated them, pushing the blondes to the front and the brunettes on backing vocals.

I think we should go into it next year and just have a laugh. Maybe Jordan should have done it. I think the knocked up Barbie look would have gone over well.

My favourite part of the night was the programme on BBC3 afterwards, which was shambolic to put it mildly. Glam from Wig-Wam almost started mating on the BBC couch with that blonde Aussie comedian Julia Morris. Javine was a bit pissed and kept banging on about how she would be going into the studio in less than a day to record some "proper" music.

Politically I think it was nice to see the Ukrainians celebrating in their recent revolution and enjoying themselves. Anyone else hear the boos going Russia's way?

I liked the Lativan entry-they'd somehow split the DNA of Tom from Mcfly and made him into two people.

Woohoo I 50% picked the winner.
seems like I'm starting to understand Europolitics and what it takes to win the ESC.

On a side note I also had a feeling that Germany would do poorly, not because the song was bad, just because it seems that they haven't been well liked in Europe since about 1939. I was sad to see that the UK hasn't been forgiven completely yet. Pretty pathetic really, but makes for fun veiwing if you happen to have an alcoholic beverage handy.

Eurovision not going your way? Make like Terry and have another drink.

Ah, the Moldovan entry! God bless!

I had a great time at Eurovision this year. We got drinks and snacks, flicked on the subtitles to sing along (best lyrics: 'Wolves die alone' and 'I am a beast that will not escape from my cage for love.') and witnessd a great spectacle (with a very strange reliance on giant drums).

I thought the UK was good, but all the big European countries suffered at the hands of political allegiances elsewhere (despite the fact we pay for it).

My other fave was Norwegian glam rockers Wig Wam:

Genius.

Next Year someone should remember to put up a poll pre-concert to see who Spaced Forum Folk think will win...
Wife Of Rolex
Or it could be the other way...which country won't win.

I thought Wig Wam were brilliant.

I've urged the Cockpit in Leeds to book them.
