I've just downloaded the new album after hearing good things about them and I have to say that it's the best album that I've heard so far this year. Anybody else seen them or got the album?

I went to Fopp to buy it last week. They were playing it when I went in the shop...decided not to buy after hearing half the CD. Will buy it eventually to give it a better listen, but in no rush

they just strike me as very bland, like a lot of british bands at the minute. the problem with any scene is that the first couple of groups steal all the thunder and when new ones come along they might be very good but you feel like its the same old thing again.
i saw them on tv and my reaction was 'oh'. they were ok, nothing special.
if you want to hear the album of the year so far, listen to the arcade fire. or the walkmen.

Yes.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
This is an absolutely superb album. I've had to stop myself from forcibly sitting people down and demanding that they listen to it's sheer genius-ness.

I'm adding my Yes to that. Maximo Park are alright, but Arcade Fire are just astonishing. Get that instead. (Legally, I hasten to add you internet pirate you, Kirstie).

I love Maximo Park, I saw them at my Uni just before Apply Some Pressure was released and they were brilliant live, even in Fuzz Club, which has been the downfall of many a band due to bad sounds.
I think the album has some really great songs but I'd have to agree with the others here and say that Funeral by Arcade Fire is a fantastic record, can't praise it enough but i'll try. The great instrumentation, the vocal performances, the diversity, it's just great.
But Maximo Park are excellent, even if they aren't as good as Arcade Fire, but then again very few are,

What he said, except without the 'ok, ' bit.
And yes to Arcade Fire.

Bought the album last Thursday, and it's very good. Sorta like the Futureheads, but with keyboards too! However, Acarde Fire's album is the best I have heard not just this year, but in about a year.

I saw them on TV the other week and I thought they were really good, but I haven't heard any more of their stuff. May have to get the album some time soon.

I similarly have only heard 'Graffiti' but I do quite like it. Am seriously considering investing in the album.

I've only heard Pressure, but think it's a great song. Can't get it out of my head now
I might give Arcade Fire a try, going on the recommendations here.
Has anyone got Interpols album? I've liked the last couple of songs they've brought out and can't decide whether to buy the album or not.

Yes. Yes, you must go and purchase it right now. Both of them, as they are both very good, albeit first one being better that the second.

Another Arcade Fire vote here (have they been mentioned more now than the band this thread is about?)
Interpol didn't impress me much on first listen, but they have really grown on me now.

I've just had a listen to Arcade Fires Neighbourhood, sounds good

Which album should I start off with though?

What, Arcade Fire or Interpol?
Arcade Fire have just the one at the moment i.e. the magnificent Funeral
Of Interpol's album I'd say go for Turn On The Bright Lights, their debut, first. It's an album that takes a few listens to get but it is an absolute masterpiece of an album (it also features Obstacle 1, quite possibly the finest song of the 21st Century so far, in my opinion). Antics is great too, and just like TOTBL it takes a few listens to get into it.

I bought Arcade Fire, brilliant album.
Just wondering though, on Neighbourhood 2 (Laika) - What is a Laika?

Anyone know?
Googling it seems to have made the song more confusing "Our mother should have called you a Russian space dog"

If my history serves me right, Laika was the name of the dog that Russia sent into space (the first living creature to do so I think)

Well, the video showed a child being shot repeatedly, once in the arm then the chest and finally the head. I know that doesn't clear anything up but i thought i might mention it since i saw it late last night and it was the first time i'd seen the proper video and not just the live performance video.
