Ahem...I think I picked the more relevant thread...

Let's have a thread-off! wink.gif

Is that an event where people stand around taking turns to pull loose ends from Sostie's cap?
monkeyman
A WoW film....really?
Raven
Yeah, it was announced a couple of years back but things have been moving very slowly. If the early accounts still hold true, I think it is supposed to be set a year before the events in the original Warcraft game.

A bit like the game then.

Maybe it'll be 3 days long and just have the main actor killing wolves over and over until he actually finds one that has an ear.

Fresh from BlizzCon - World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

Part of me is gutted that Horde are getting goblins while Alliance are getting Worgen. But on the other hand it will be great to have the 1-60 grind fully revamped and the old world shown some love. A tentative "looking forward to it", although I'm not looking forward to the constant fanboy bitching about backstory (lore if you're a real geek) and how it will "ruin the game". Even though most of the people doing the bitching will be the same people who made exactly the same complaints when Burning Crusade and Lich King were announced and stated that they would quit. Like the lying bitches they are.
Raven
I'm looking forward to this.

I've not been that taken with the Lich King content; Northrend is as dull as dish-water, but a complete re-vamp of existing areas has grabbed my attention.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out!
monkeyman
Is there any real reason for the older more experienced players to moan about this update?
NiteFall
Because they bitch about everything. There's an underlying population of players who'll complain if Blizzard try anything new. Usually they claim that it will either "break the game!" or that it "goes against lore!" which roughly translate as "I won't be able to be as much of an elitist prick after this change!" and "I've got no life and have memorised the scripts for the first 3 Warcraft games and all of the tie in books!" respectively. It's like anything in life- you always get those people who take it far too seriously and as a result lose sight of the fact that the purpose of a game is to entertain.

That one is particularly laughable as Warcraft Lore can only be described as cobbled together at best.
Raven
'Alienated' gamer sues WoW for ruining life.

Somehow, I don't think WoW is at fault here . . .
NiteFall
Ah yes, this is the same guy who lost his court case against Sony, claiming that their banning him from PSN for using racial and sexual insults towards other players in direct violation of the EULA was an infringement of his First Amendment right to free speech. Of course, the First Amendment only applies to Governmental impediment of free speech, so he was pretty much boned from the get go on that one. Something tells me this one ios going to fare just as well, if not worse, given that the entirety of his case boils down to "it's not fun enough and the game designers aren't just handing everything to me the minute I log in, therefore it's discriminatory".

I think I may have been in a battle ground with him!
Llama
Well I started playing this again about a month and a half ago and forgot to mention on here. If anyone's on Turalyon, I've got a level 46 Night Elf Hunter on there called Laamojen (it's Llama in Norweigen.. or something).
NiteFall
So, cross realm PUGs now. If you find yourself in one with a balance spec druid called Keios from Dragonmaw, say hello. That's me.
Raven
You're on a PvP server aren't you? Do the different types of realms mix and match in these groups?

I'm in battle group Blackout.

(also, I'm Alliance, and you're Horde scum!).
NiteFall
I got me a key for the Friends and Family Cataclysm Alpha test! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Raven
Well done! When does that start?
NiteFall
I'm downloading the client right now. It has already leaked onto the internets if you know where to look, so you could get it and mooch around looking at all the shiny new unfinished zones.
Raven
I'm happy to wait for the actual release, though I would like to get a copy of the software the day before it goes live on the servers and not the day after as last time.
NiteFall
What's really making me laugh is the bitching coming from the big guilds because they've all been banned from participating in the testing of this expansion after they were asked to help with the WotLK testing and they then proceeded to spend the entire time finding exploits and not providing any feedback. A few of them have even been permanently banned because they went onto the official WoW forums to gloat about having downloaded the leaked client, which is a breach of the EULA.
Raven
Warcraft players can be an odd bunch.

I've just been reading some pieces on Insider; they seem to be frowning on the leaking of the Cataclysm content, but at the same time happy to report on it!
monkeyman
Lulz, players like that deserve to get banned anyway.
Everlong
I could never play WoW. Stuff like that flies right over my head.

Maybe I'm a thicko without the brain power, but people's strategies confuse the hell out of me. Of course part of my view is based on the "Leeeeroyyyyyyy Jenkinnnnns!" video. Too much planning into playing a game.

I don't play it to that level myself, there is plenty to do in the game without having to resort to knowing your hit rating or what damage you can do!

At it's most basic level it's just a case of hitting things until they die!
Everlong
Ahh, that sounds more up my street.
monkeyman
If you find a good guild you'll be fine. It's elitist douches that are the bane of new players.

I know the stuff in the Lleroy Jenkins video is the sort of planning some guilds do, but the video is fake isn't it?
NiteFall
It totally is. That level of planning and those odds of success and that kind of failure in that instance is just silly.

Sorry. I'm really tired today, so my sentence construction seems to have gone a bit odd.
monkeyman
Still funny though and really indicative of experiences I had with Final Fantasy 11. You can ignore the rest of my post if you like, it's just boring nostalgia remebeting one of many screw ups that occured whilst plaing.

[Lame Rememiscing] Me leading the linkshell (FF11 equivalent of a guild) against a Notorious Monster (unique strong enemies that drop unique/rare items most are on a 24 hour population cycle, some more some less. Everyone is supposed to have checked out the website to read up on the general plan of attack. The NM we were after spawns in a big room full of enemies that are Neutral to players unless you cast magic. My class was Ranger (shoots guns/arrows) with sub class of Ninjitsu (can use Ninjitsu magic which uses items instead of mana so these neutral enemies wouldn't attack me).
I was to shoot the NM when it spawned and pull/kite it into a nice empty hallway where we could all rape it.
The linkshell leader asked me to show all the people who hadn't done the fight what the room looks like and where the various halls led to for later reference, it's nice to know where things are when you're new to it and be made to feel more a part of things rather than just being there to kill something.
Anyway I was in the middle of the room explaining why not to use magic for maybe the 2nd or 3rd time (some people had got to the area late so I wad re-explaining some things), someone casts a spell (it was refresh which is Mana regen and unecessary seeing as we were all full stats and nit going to fight just then) and all 10 of us get whompped by the enemies in the room. As I lay there hopelessly waiting for a revive (when you die in FF11 you lose 10% of your xp, so you can de-level and it's a hell of a hut when you're a higher level, the NM spawned and I watched it get taken down by gil sellers -,-

tl;dr someone used magic where they shouldn't have, we got mullered, gil sellers got the NM.[/Lame rememiscing]
The good times far far outweighed the bad though.
Raven
Watching the community go into melt-down over real names being shown on the official forums is very amusing!
monkeyman

The only thing I see it causing hassle with is the ladies; in terms of how much more grief they are likely to get. Other than that, does it really matter?
ipse dixit
I don't know much about it, but just read this rather interesting piece about it.
Llama
It could definitely prompt very angry, disturbed people to persue personal vendettas in real life. That seems to be the main issue.
monkeyman
Blizzard backtracks on Real names in forums etc
I'm sort of surprised they backed down to be honest. It's the right move but still a bit surprising.
Raven
I'm not convinced backing down is the best move.

I understand people's concerns, and some of them have more merit than others, but the WoW forums are a nightmare where trolls and flamers are protected by their veil of anonymity. Blizzard do remove a lot of posts, and ban a lot of posters, but the fundamental problem is that there are a significant number of idiots who just go on their to be offensive and cause trouble (in the same way they do in the chat channels in the game).
monkeyman
They should have a three strikes and out rule. People make new level one characters so they can troll anonymously? They should get three chances before the master account is perma banned. That's stop the shit...
Everlong
A lesson: Don't troll and cause shit.

Though I agree that it can be bad in some ways, there are bound to be some stupid people out there wanting revenge for constantly being killed on there.

Imagine killing someone on a game and receiving death threats after. Mad.
Raven
ESRB Fail!
Raven
Levelling a character 9 times - from 52 to 61 - in two days is tiring work!
Llama
Oh yeah, just to say, I'm back on for a couple of months. My friends and I started afresh in Burning Blade if anyone happens to be there. Well, I say "started afresh", they all got to start with Death Knights, I had to start from level 1 *grumble*
Raven
Good God this patch is taking forever to install . . .
Llama
I can't even get it through the Blizzard Downloader, having to download it elsewhere.
Raven
I downloaded it a couple of weeks back (left the PC on all night to do it), but it still took over 45 minutes to download an additional 110Mb this evening, very poor.

I think the install has been running for over an hour and a quarter now, and it's only just passed half way . . .
NiteFall
You should try downloading and installing the Cataclysm beta client. That fucker took forever.
Raven
I'll just wait for the disk, thanks!
Raven
Finished!

ETA:

Gah! Now it's downloading something else!

Gah! Now it's downloading something else!

That should pretty much be the tagline for the Blizzard Downloader.
Raven
Another 1.6Gb! (and the downloader is barely managing 3Mb a minute!) I'm off to bed!
