Sorry, I was just incensed by the SotD review in the new TV Times. 2 stars out of 5.
ARE THEY INSANE??!!

TV times is written for people like my nan who wouldn't appreciate something like Shaun of the Dead but who live on daytime soaps and lifestyle programmes. Don't sweat, I'm sure the guys won't be too disappointed with this particular bad review.
sorry if you are a regular tv times reader for any reason other than it's cheaper than radio times and you don't have teletext.
just out of interest, what do they actually say about the film to justify its rating?

Ive seen plenty of really stupid reviews. I hate the critic Andy Dougan, I think he is in the daily record or Evening times. he put revenge of the sith in the same category as xxx2: state of the union (which is shit). they both got 2 stars each!
he also raves about how good some crappy movies are.
2 stars for Shaun of the dead is just stupid. I dont think anybody on these boards would disagree

That's the same rating they give Apocalypse Now. Your film has to be really good to please a TV Times critic.

No - they did it on purpose to rile you.
One nil to them.

The personification for "eternally disappointed in things I liked" was Chris Tookey for the Daily Mail. Every week it was time for him to drop pants and squat on films I went on to either like, or think "well it wasn't THAT bad".
PS Hilariously had a "Tookey's Turkey" bit. Eek Gads, that's punnery taken to new heights!

I'd go with four, though I can see how you could justify a three or five star review. Two's a little harsh, but it's only one reviewer's opinion.

A stupid reviewer. For the TV times - who gives a flying shite about them anyway? They're too busy trying to stand out from the TV Quicks and the other bollocks with soaps plastered on the front.
Anyway, wasn't it xxx2: The Next Level? That's pants too, unsuprisingly. Ooh, it's all wrong! Whhhhhyyyyy?
Actually, is Sin City any good? It better had be....

There you go. They obviously know nothing about reviewing and just give their personal opinion. EDUCATED reviewers give more than personal opinion. They base thier reviews on knowledge of said media & should not be terribly biased by personal view.
Don't even bother to acknowledge them. Take no notice, move along, nothing to see here.

I can't stand that, even if I didn't personally like the genre of film I wouldn't put it down because of that (IF it was well made)
Well..... I hope I wouldn't!

Heat gave it 5 stars so there

.Plus it's number 3 on the top ten things to watch on digital at the back of the magazine. I trust
Heat. It has only let me down once.

Heat has only let me down once as well - when it changed from being a readable media mag into a gossip whore - it was in around 2000, I think.

I was thinking about that the other day. Whatever happened to Heat? I'm sure when it first came out it was good, a weekly media magazine was a refreshing change. I remember the writing being witty and the reviews more in tune with my tastes than the Radio Times!
Now it's celebrity mingers every week.
I still buy it though as I've got used to having it as my tele page, even though it infuriates me and they pick Coronation Street as 'choice' whenever it's on (i.e. every frigging day).
Maybe I should remember to get up early on Saturdays and Sundays so the paper shop hasn't run out of Guardians and copies of the Sunday Times respectively. The Guide and the Culture do the job far better.
What's this topic about again?
Oh yeah, Heat reviews - absolute bollocks. Any old manky 'chick lit' *****

Right, I'm finally pulling my finger out (heck, it's been 3 days!) and here's the TV Times review...IN FULL...ooooooooooh!
This zombie spoof* plays fair by the rules of the game, in that it's a genuine comedy chiller. Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a couch 'n' pub potato who loses girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) because their slobby friend Ed (Nick Frost) is always with them and (last straw) Shaun forgets to book a dinner-for-two meant to get them out of the rut. Even as they part, though, London is being overwhelmed by an uprising of the living dead. And TV salesman Shaun proves the unlikely man of the hour as he organises Ed, Liz, his mum and Stepdad (Penelope Wilton and Bill Nighy) plus two to the safety of the pub. Amusing, if not scary.2 STARS
It's the most lame review I've ever read (apart from one of the tv mags on sunday which said Liz and Barbara are kidknapped by the zombies

) and absolutely no justification for just 2 stars. My mum really likes it and she's usually a tough bitch to crack!!
TV Times...wrong, wrong, wrong, so very wrong.

yeah i've been getting heat since around 2000 and it wasn't that bad but it was miles better rite at the beginning. my brother got issue number 7 or something and it was one of the few magazines i could read cover to cover. now its filled with ads and "look at the fat celebs" one minute then "look at the skinny celebs" the next!

In the 'Films of the week' section of the Independent's Information Roger Clarke has given Shuan five stars.
"Made by the team behind cult TV comedy Spaced, Simon Pegg's "rom-zom-com" (he co-wrote it) proved one of the most popular British movies of last year. Pegg plays the hopeless slacker Shaun who, faced with a London invasion of zombies, makes it his task to save his girlfriend by teatime."
