just read that Halo is going to be given the movie makeover treatment, what are your opinions?

i think just like every other game to be made into a film, it'll be a load of BOLLOCKS. But i could be wrong.

More info here http://Halo the movie

lol i think the games ok, but only on co-op with a good friend, but it does get boring really quickly.

Usually at the point where you realise you've been through the same room and the same corridors about five times without actually going back on yourself.

"ooh, how shall we design our levels... I know, just make one room and one corridor, and repeat them a hundred times"

At best another Tomb Rader (*sigh*), at worst a Super Mario Bros. movie.

What about Doom which is coming out later this year.

The cast is pretty decent:

Karl Urban .... John Grimm
The Rock .... Sarge
Rosamund Pike .... Samantha

With

Dexter Fletcher as Pinky

(I'm not joking)

My god, I thought they'd given up on the idea of making Doom into a movie many years ago, where I remember Arnold Schwarzenegger being cast as the main role.
Zoe
Also coming out this year - with another decent cast list

Alone in the Dark

Christian Slater .... Edward Carnby
Stephen Dorff .... Commander Burke

This little gem is already in the IMDB's bottom 100.

The Halo movie is to be written by the Bungie folks and released to coincide with the release of PS3 - so it'll probably be shite as the production will be all rushed.

Brilliant. Video game staffers have a real handle on screenwriting.

It's not actually. They hired out a professional screenwriter, but came up with a big set of "rules" to make sure that the script is at least close to the game story.

Unlike the Doom movie which seems to be absolutely nothing like the game itself. It's not even set on Mars for one thing. Looking at the cast list for Doom, there's a "Dr Carmack" and "Dr Willits" (John Carmack = id software's "technical director" and Tim Willits = id software's lead designer, to those who don't know).

I doubt this will hardly be anything other than clichéd crap, but it may actuallly be an alright Sci Fi Action flick.

The chances of the latter are slim to none.

Th whole thing seems set up for failure, and it will depend on how it is handled and how many:
"I'm not leaving you behind!"
"No, you must go on without me. "
"But Johnson-"
"-No sir, go! And tell my wife..."
"Yes Johnson?"
"I was having an affair."

bits there are.

"Ooh, how shall we mock Halo... I know, just bring up the same complaint, and repeat it a hundred times" tongue.gif

EDIT: also, while I doubt very much that it will be a good movie, it at least has some potential. There's plenty of 'official' back story that can be covered, from the books and things. There are a few pretty in depth species, humans, AI's, covenant variations, as well as a couple of more mysterious ones, the forerunners and the flood. It could be the next Alien if they did it right. And also, Bungie are such fanboys that they might, just might, demand that whoever they get to screen write it etc make a good job of it.

However i'm not holding my breath.

Picking JCVD for an American captain person was the greatest idea ever rolleyes.gif

Anyway, I have fond memories of Mortal Kombat as a child, what with the mindless violence et all.

Thought Resident Evil was Ok, although that might just be because of Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez. Hubba hubba cool.gif

I thought they wrote the part as a united nations style captain... maybe I'm mistaken. I'm sure they all had blue berets though. Don't ask me why I'm arguing the merits of Street Fighter...

But if this is anywhere near as good as Red vs Blue then it will be genius.

EVERYONE should watch RvB, even non-XBox owners/non-Halo enthusiasts such as myself can enjoy it. And they will. smile.gif
